Is This It and The New Abnormal are, in my opinion, the best two albums they've released, they are almost flawless. Two incredible records. Room on Fire is close, and FIOE and Angles have their high points. From your reaction, I'd tell you to check out Comedown Machine, it's the closest they've got to The New Abnormal imo
@andylangford26587 ай бұрын

Julian's falsetto is insane on this album. When you think back to old Strokes albums, that falsetto is unimaginable. Julian's singing style has evolved so much. When he first started experimenting with it, I didn't know what to think because it was so different, but now I absolutely love it. I think every single Strokes album is worth listening to. Also, I wonder what you would think of Albert Hammond Jr.'s (the lead guitarist) solo stuff. You can really get a feel for exactly what he brings to the signature sound of The Strokes. Mutual Beatings is a great song to start with. Also, nice ear with the samping/references. They reference many bands from Joy Division, to Billy Idol. The lyric "making bad decisions" is a spin off of "dancing with myself" by Billy Idol. The Stroke have been one of my favorite bands since my very first listen. The impact they had on mainstream music at the time of their debut is undeniable. I'm always excited to see someone who is as in love with their music as I am. Please react to more Strokes albums. Every album is worth listening to.

My life was not the same after listening to this album for the first time (specially Ode to the mets). It got out almost 4 years ago and there hasn't been a day that i dont listen to at least one of these songs. They are just so much better than anything you hear. And it takes so many elements from like Daft Punk, Tame Impala while keeping the the strokes elements present. I still haven't found a better album than this one. I also love the debut from Arctic Monkeys because of its rawness and how young they were, but the New Abnormal is just on onother level and watching people listening to it for the first time remindes me of how good it really is. Can't wait for their next album
@mradriankool3 ай бұрын
His vocal on the the adults are talking is a huge FU to everything that rags on Julian as a one trick pony. So much brilliance on the album, its everything I love about the band, but with the element of maturity that only comes from the trials and tribulations they’ve gone through. Perhaps my favourite album by them. I was 30 something when they broke and now in my late 50’s year old no one was more surprised when this was delivered by them.
@chrisww230810 ай бұрын
Iv been a massive strokes fan from the start and I will admit I kinda had accepted they were passed it.. This album is absolutely blew me away and I’m so happy for the guys.. this is a masterpiece and arguably their best… a few years later this album is even better.
@jeffharper450910 ай бұрын
Same. I enjoy most of their later stuff, but I accepted their best work was behind them years ago. Somehow, I didn’t even hear that they had made a new album until 2023! I couldn’t believe how good it was, totally blew me away. ROF is my favorite album, but this is easily tied 2nd for me with Is This It. That first listen was so emotional for some reason, it felt like being reunited with your best friend after not seeing them for years.
@cody9510 ай бұрын
The album cover is an original piece from an American artist named Jean-Michel Basquiat. He was very popular in the Brooklyn art scene in the 80’s and was once seen as Andy Warhol’s protege. He died of a heroin overdose in 1988. Basquiat’s estate approved the band’s use of the piece. I’m sure them being from NYC was a big factor in it getting approved, as the Strokes also made a huge impression on the same city when they quickly rose in popularity in the early 2000s

This album finally felt like The Strokes. Is This It was such a success that they focused so much on recreating that, meanwhile their identities changed and they matured as musicians, yet were hesitant to change their approach to the point where it drove a rift between the group. It was so nice to see them come back together to create what they wanted as a group and inject a little bit of them all into each track. Everyday since this album’s release I’m hoping and praying for another record from them that’s created in the same light.
