love when you do this type of video. Something I have switched to is flipping with a superline ewg. I just don’t lose fish. My e just luck, but it works for me. Also, my wife and I had a similar experience. We were fishing a pressure lake. We were catching a few but a lot of areas were being fished already. Found a pond that was hard to get into. Pushed poled our way in and found several good fish that were eager to bite. Definitely worth the effort to get in there. Thanks for sharing your knowledge

Some studies have been done about the soda trick. One study concluded that due to the toxic nature of the soda on the gills, fish stop pumping blood which is why it stops bleeding. When they put the fish in a cooler of water, the fish began to bleed again after a short amount of time. Another thing in question is if the acid does any long term damage to the cells collecting oxygen. As of now they say the best thing to do is return the fish to water as soon as possible
@BluntTruth7Ай бұрын
This is very true. The fish's gills are their lungs. Would you pour soda on your lungs? Probably not. The gills serve various functions: oxygen absorption, carbon dioxide removal, water flow, blood flow, gill protection, and control of the density of the water that prevents collapse. The sooner you get the bass back into the water, not the live well, the better chance that bass will survive.
@Michdave700Ай бұрын
That was a serious study with a very scientific approach, I listened to the fisheries biologist describe it at length. So interesting that the shock of the soda causes a heart stop reflex, so the bleeding stops for a moment but returns a minute or two later after release. Another point he made is to have a pair of high quality nippers to cut the hook apart for easy removal or to minimize the size if left in. Plus I’ve found those nippers handy to protect me, when I had to push a hook through my thumb and cut off the barb.
@BluntTruth7Ай бұрын
@@Michdave700 Yes, I saw that study. I've also read up on other studies that all lead to the same conclusion: do not use soda on the fish: try to cut the hooks out if you can, and put them back into the lake as soon as you can, not the livewell.

This is just a correction for handling fish with bleeding gills. Please don't pour sodas in the fish to help stop the bleeding. The gills are the fish's lungs that serve many functions: water flow, carbon dioxide removal, oxygen absorption, blood flow, and control of the density of the water in their system, especially when handled outside the water. Think of it this way: your lungs provide capillary blood flow and regulate oxygen/carbon dioxide mixture. Would you want someone to pour a carbonated drink down your trachea into your lungs to stop bleeding? I hope you say no. The same goes with a fish; this will do more harm than good to the fish.
