It’s a good way of thinking about it! Good points. I remember the first time I went fully grey. I didn’t think I was ready psychologically and besides my hair was wiry like steel wool and people were less than complementary on it. It may have been the style too. Too severe for my face? Second time a couple of years later, a whole different ball game. Hair a lot softer, with a nicer style now I don’t ever want to go back to dyeing my hair as I feel it’s “not me”.

I totally relate to what you said! I am 8 weeks into my second gray hair grow out. I transitioned the first time 10 years ago and enjoyed 8 years of natural hair. Then I got COVID during the first wave and suffered significant hair loss. When my hair grew back, it was "different" - more frizzy, less curly, dull looking. Instead of addressing these issues, I wrongly decided to go back to the hair dye 2 years ago, and, to make matters even worse, I had several Brazilian blowouts. After 2 years of this, my occasional seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp worsened so badly that root touch-ups caused burning and scabs on my scalp. My hairdresser and I decided it was best to stop the chemicals. Now, at 8 weeks into my gray hair journey, my scalp is healed and happy, but I see how damaged my hair is from the dye and Brazilian blowouts. So much breakage and dryness, and I see little hairs starting to grow in on top. Much less hair loss when I shampoo also. This is it...... I'm never going back to the dye! It's going to take at least 2 years to grow my hair out. I know it's not going to be easy because my hair was dyed dark brown, but it will be worth it. 😊

We really have to be emotionally ready for the transition no doubt!!!

Your gray hair is beautiful thank you so much for making your videos. I am almost 7 months along and really starting to like the silver I’m seeing. You’re right it takes a while to see what it’s going to even look like sometimes mine looks salt and pepper and sometimes it looks silver but one thing is for sure it makes my dyed brown hair look dead and dull. It’s funny I used to go to great lengths to hide any new growth but nowadays I’m walking around with this two-tone head of hair and announcing to anyone that will listen that I am growing out my natural hair 😂. The freedom is beautiful 🦋

Oh wow hon!! Thank you for sharing your journey on here! You are not the first to mention the impact of Covid on their hair... Sounds like chemical free is the way to go... as it grows in you will likely celebrate each inch so much! keep me posted in the comments on how your hair is doing!!

It took a couple of tries for me to go gray. The first time I made the huge mistake of bleaching my hair blonde (from a dark chocolate brown) to try and keep that demarcation line less noticeable. Unfortunately I fried my hair with the bleach and after a few months I gave up and recolored my hair brown again, hoping to make it feel more healthy (which it didn't ). A couple of years later I decided to try again. This time I grew it out for about 6 months until it was long enough to cut into a super cute pixie. It was such a wonderful feeling to finally cut off all the damaged dyed hair and have soft, healthy beautiful gray with all its variation in color. The pixie was super cute but now I have shoulder length grays and I still love it. Never going back.

Hi Amanda , I'm 3 Months dye free ,haven't dyed it since last December .Just decided all of a sudden to not colour it any more as i was getting fed up having it done every 4 weeks and it was getting expensive.Looking forward to seeing how the pattern will turn out.Your hair looks amazing.Since this journey i've complimented ladies on there silver hair aswell as the salt and pepper haired ladies and they are so happy with that.x💖

the power of a compliment can change someone's day!! 3 months... how are you finding it so far? It really can be so expensive to keep up with the dye!! ( now I just get my nails done more...lol)
