This song was first sung by Annie Morgan in 1933 in murphy, nc for John Jacob Nile’s the was visiting towns in the Appalachia region to record songs that had not been published

@@JenniferSkawlook up John Jacob Niles , a 1930’s song writer. He heard the song from a poor little Appalachian girl and refined it. I think it was first played accompanied by a dulcimer.
