Apparently the thing with the gold chains in Lt. Little's face comes from an actual Inuit account of one of the frozen corpses they had discovered. Also, thank you for reacting to this series. Not enough people have and yours are by far the best. You are great :)

There's a lot of information in documentaries on YT, well worth looking into, I know I've heard an explanation as to the gold chains thing but I can't remember it.

Yes... search for Franklin Inuit accounts on the Google. The account states it was a pocket watch attached by chain to both ears. Edit: It is in this account. @@mattnar3865 I read something about how pirates/thieves who found the body wouldn’t take anything that was part of the body, like gold fillings & anything piercing the body…don’t know if it was “bad luck” or superstition or something? So if they pierced into their skin then there was a better chance that when their body was found their valuables & possessions would go to family. I just remember reading something like that but it seems a little unlikely that a pirate would care that much

I was SCREAMING during Jopson’s death. Well, as much as I could allow myself to scream at six am. Something along the lines of “Nooooo he’d never leave you he loves youuuu you’re his sooooonnn 😭” 😅

I love the fact that both of crozier enemies lay dead infront of him. I also love how the human villain actually lead to the death of tuunbaq lol I honestly cried so much during this episode and felt a surge of victory when hickey and the tuunbaq died at the same time

Thank you for the wonderful, smart, and very funny reactions to this gorgeous show! I know it was heavy viewing, but it is one of my favorite television experiences ever -- so grim but so weirdly beautiful. (Also, your feelings for Goodsir and Jopson was 100% mine too -- AGHGH. Loved them!) Looking forward to viewing more of your reactions!

@13:30 The explanation I believe for the crazy face piercing is that this wacky bunch of nautical men, aka sailors, were very superstitious and it was believed by some that certain piercings could ward off sicknesses like fever and of course, the number curse of sailors before modern food storage, *scurvy*! It's essentially the same thing as people believing in the healing power of saintly relics and other cultures beliefs in the power of idols (demonstrated earlier those found on Lady Silence's papa) Still makes for a great f***ed up image of a man going nuts via a) scurvy b) lead poisoning c) extreme malnutrition d) a laundry list of psychological problems including, but not exclusively, severe depression, anxiety, extreme PTSD and others. Don't you just wish you were there?!?!☠️🥶😄🥶☠️

If you are interested in some of the details of the Terror history side, I reccommend the channel History Buffs. They do a really good analysis on the show and it’s history. Oh and on your earlier reaction on the mean doctor that incinerated himself at that “carnival”. The actor that played him explains that the doctor saw in his mind how the whole crew was going downhill and he considered this act to be a mercy as opposed to what was coming. Just wanted to drop that nugget of info.

I was sad Goodsir went (obviously) but I was happy he went out on his terms and in his way fought back against Fickey Hickey Pretty Ricky (whatever his name is)

@@ManicMeeks I was just happy that Fickey Hickey got his in the end, and that when he tried to train the Tuunbaq, it ate his poisoned ass, and choked on him, like the tainted meat that he was! Thank you Goodsir, for breaking my heart, but doing it in a useful way and poisoning all those cannibalistic bastards! I cannot describe how many onions were cut over my sweet, precious Jopson.

Please please please read the book. His life after his injury is SO amazing. It's my favorite part of the book. The story is so wonderfully written. Actually I have the audio book and it is riveting. I do hope there are more The Terror S1 discussion. Thank you Manic Meeks for revitilizing my love for this show.

And just 2 months ago, on 24th of September 2024, the remains of James Fitzjames were identified! Thanks to the DNA kindly provided by his distant relatives. And yes, he was cannibalised, as the show assumed 6 years ago. I just love to be in the history fandom, that keeps dropping news 170 years later.

I'm so glad you watched this! When you said you were going to watch "The Terror" after "Chernobyl" I was so excited because it is such a great series. Every time you talked about Goodsir and how sweet he was part of me wanted to warn you about what happened to him. I love the characters development. The journey they all go on, not just physical but emotional, is amazing. I liked the ending for Crozier. The first thing I did when I finished watching episode 10 was to watch the opening scene in episode 1; when you see a man in front of the tent get up and walk away. In the first episode it was just a man. But at the end of episode 10 you realize it's Crozier. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to season 2, sort of. When you see the trailer you'll understand. Glad you enjoyed it!

I had the same reaction when i finished like... Wow such a good story but so underrated?? WHY but i lowkey wish they gave another end for mr goodsir just because it was so painful to watch he was so broken at the end ugh i'll always love him on another note you could watch history buff's episode on the terror i has plenty of information about the real thing, you could react to it or not its just a good bit of information to know

Now that you've finished this you reeeeally should react to Rome with Mance & Edmure and Ellaria sand.. it's another high-value underrated gem and you would really love it. It's only two short seasons. React to the first episode and give it a try, you won't regret it!
