Rory often said his Strat was like an extra limb and that he'd be lost without it..he also said when he held his guitar he was holding 30 years of memories in his hands....Rory played a couple of other guitars on stage but the Strat was his first love....❤️ The Belfast gig was amazing, check out 'Shadow Play' at the end...❤️

Rory on the way to the stage in 1976 at the Dayton Hydroglobe in Ohio supporting Aerosmith. Steven Tyler “I remember standing at the side of the stage with Joe (Perry) and Brad (Whitfield) and thinking that we better come up with something special, going on after Rory. Boy, was he hot in those days! Rory’s playing was so natural that the guitar just seemed to be a part of his hands.”

@@padfolio I remember reading the review....Rory and the band blew Aerosmith off the stage....The crowd, who mostly hadn't heard of Rory, were totally with him halfway through his set...They were applauding and yelling for more chanting Rory, Rory, quite a way into Aerosmiths set.. Mr. Tyler was not amused!!!!!!!! I first saw Rory in 1969, Marquee London....Saw Rory and the band countless times after that ....His stage performances and empathy with his audience are legendary...Never a set list, he played what he thought the crowd wanted, totally immersed in his music and enjoying every second ...he never ever played a number in the same way twice, some shows over two, two and a half hours long....he was very approachable, any concert goer will tell you, so you could also get to say hi...I've missed many a "last bus or train home".....great days..great to see a new generation of music lovers getting to know the ,undoubtedly, most underrated blues/rock and roll singer/songwriter/guitarist ever.....thanks for giving him a listen❤️✌️ Xx

Rory,s 1961 Strat was reputedly the first in Ireland. He bought it in 1963 as a 15yo.According to his brother Donal ,Rory had acidic sweat and very rarely playing less than 3 hour gigs he sweated a lot. This led to the distressed look of his guitar. Fender done a signature copy and it,s one of their best sellers. I was lucky enough to see him live 5 times in Glasgow in the 70,s and even luckier to live for a few years in the house where he lived as a child. It's in Ballyshannon Co. Donegal.Thousands of fans from all over the world attend a 4 day festival in the town on May Bank Holiday weekend.

This was great choice to watch. Although its a slow blues Rory gives the tune so many colours and feels. One minute its screaming riffs then he's backing off and playing with so much feel and tone. One minute you're kicking back, next second he's assaulting your senses. And he always breaks up the tune into distinct phrases that stand on their own each with its own personality. And his vocals are always overlooked. This is a classic Muddy Waters tune and Rory does real service to the lyric and call and response characteristic of older blues tunes. Rory couldn't play with the speed of many modern technical players but he used so many different varying guitar skill sets. And his tone - something to die for if you're a player. Pinch harmonics, action behind the nut, string pulls - I've not seen any other player do that BTW - subtle fabulously clean runs - he was a master.

Rory uses a ‘61 Strat which was the first Fender Stratocaster in Ireland - as a young teenager. Apart from the fact he played this guitar (as you say part of him) his tragically shortened life*, Rory had a rare genetic heredity which gave him unusual acidic sweat

@@KristinKali Thanks for a great Rory reaction! Rory was self-taught, from 9 years old when he got his first acoustic guitar. He later taught himself to play mandolin, banjo, harmonica and saxophone. He mostly composed his own music ( though he never learned to read/write sheet music), although he did a few covers of blues artists he admired, like this one.

That's a 1961 Fender Stratocaster. Rory purchased it in 1963, it was possibly the only USA made strat in Ireland at the time. Rumor is it was ordered by a famous bandstand player who ended up not wanting it. rory made lay-away payments on it for a year until it was his. It's one of the most iconic guitars in all of rock music. At the end, Rory said it was being held together with string and spit.

Thanks Kristin. He was a hero in Ireland and my home country of Scotland. As usual the British powers didn’t like him cos he was Irish. Your man was a soft spoken gentleman, but his spirit awoke performing for us all. Humble, self taught, he just wanted to perform for us bring us music and light and he did it in spades. He lifted our Celtic hearts , and still does. Rory, not interested in Fame ,just wanted to be with the people. That’s a true hero. God bless you Rory.

Hi Kristin, further to my previous comment. You should watch, TASTE, live at the Isle of Wight festival. I think it was 1968/69. The second incarnation of TASTE with Ritchie McCracken on bass and John Wilson on drums, who I mentioned in my previous comment. They are doing an original number by Rory, called "What's going on." So you can call up the video, by typing, "Taste live, Isle of Wight. "What's going on." Half of there equipment got stolen before the gig, so they were using begged and borrowed stuff. The whole performance can be found here also. Enjoy. Billy Teare

I can't live on a steady diet of blues, but on those rare occasions that I do "consume" the music, I very much appreciate the greatness of the musicians, like the one time that I saw ZZ Top in concert. ZZ Top can just riff blues all night and sound great. I also enjoyed the blues section of the movie Adventures in Babysitting.

It’s not unbelievable to understand. They spend more time with guitars than they do their families. My guitar hero apparently during a hotel fire alarm, grabbed his new custom guitar ran to the foyer in the hotel and left his wife in their room to save herself. Some tough wifes out there. Music, the power of it.

First time i see one of your reactions....Super cool....👍You have the swag too😂🤭👍Rory was a super guitarist....But, there were other incredible guitarists! I will try to watch your older reactions, to see which bands you reacted to....But, as you talked about the fact you felt emotions, it proves that you can feel the music, and you don't listen to idiots, using auto-tune to sing, or bitches, shaking their assholes to sell some albums😂😂😂😂That's, really, important for me! It doesn't matter, the music genres, the era, technical skills, etc....Just, guys who give their souls...Music, is, only, about if it touches our hearts and souls or not! That's all! The only important thing! In that song, it's clear the guys gave everything😂(the face of the bassist, is phenomenal 😂)....You noticed that! That's why, I, already, know it's a good channel....👍Peace from France ✌️🌹
