I went to an all girls school, literally one of the only perks was period stuffs, like kids used to just stand up in class and shout "has anyone got a pad" and no one would give a fuck because we were all girls or if a teacher said no to the loo people would just be like "I have my period" and up and leave

I was really young when First having my period (I was 9, it came really early because of chemotherapy at age 5 that just gives me a head-start of 5-10 years, and expect to be the same for menopause that can start from my early 30) , so for the first 3 years or so I was the only one in my class (besides maybe teachers 😝) and it really sucked.. even though about 90% of my class were female I always felt like I needed to hide as I was the only one. Felt kinda lonely back then, especially since I already felt different a lot of the times due to being in hospital a lot.

Meryl Silverburgh mate it’s a school’s job to teach you stuff, so surely they should try to give you the best education they can in all areas, including information on the different period products and also how to do taxes and etc. Why should we be taught all of the different ways to find out the missing side of a triangle yet not be taught all of the different ways of dealing with your period or paying taxes? Schools are there to educate, they have people trained to educate, that is their job.

@@merylsilverburgh8081 First, don't be a dick, we're all ladies here. Second, there is a big problem with the education system not teaching Sex Ed thoroughly (or even accurately). This is a BIG problem because a lack of good Sex Ed leads to things like Toxic Shock Syndrome, STDs, and unplanned pregnancies among various other things. Third, while schools don't need to tell kids about specific brands, they do need to be up to date about what kinds of products are available. Especially if the alternatives (Traditional pads and Tampons) can cause things like TSS. They tell the types of birth control, why not the types of menstrual products? Fourth, Not everyone has parents to teach them this. Their parent or guardian may be abusive, distant, or ignorant themselves. OR their only parent is male and they find asking a man about periods UNCOMFORTABLE. Fifth, If I don't know a thing exists why would I ask my Gyno about it? The original commenter didn't know there was any such thing. Why would she do the research about period products if she thinks there are only 2 kinds.

*story time about schools and periods 😬:* i used to go to a girls school, you'd think they'd let us use the toilets during lesson but nope. and during the 5min switch over between lessons they LOCKED the toilets. yes literally locked them with a key and they'd guard them... so you were FORCED to wait 2 hours to change your pad/tampon etc between lessons. it's was nightmarish. i think schools need to work towards actually helping people with periods to navigate school and periods simultaneously, rather than making it worse. i know some friends of mine, with heavy periods, who weren't able to attend school for a couple days because of the toilet ban! 😖

It's so weird. I know other women who, like you lot and me, really cringe at the word. There must have been a time that, as a child, somebody said 'panties' to me during an extremely unpleasant experience so that I now have an automatic and visceral reaction to the word. @@elladavies1856 what Ness said, there's kind of a double layer of protection from any period blood because you can roll the pad up so only the waterproof layer faces outwards. I guess if you've got super nosy friends who'd go rummaging in your bag without permission or someone bullying you that's likely to tip all your stuff on the floor it wouldn't be great but hopefully that's not a situation you're in. It's one of those things that's weird/gross when you think about but you do it a few times nothing bad happens and it just starts to become normal. What we consider gross is often just down to cultural norms and personal normality, I've got friends that I've talked about period cups with that consider it super gross and refuse to try it but they have an incontinent dog they clean up after all the time or they have a baby. All things considered period blood is way less gross than shit and yet people are happier picking up dog poo with just a thin easily torn plastic bag than touching their own period blood, it's an odd world 🤷‍♀️ Sorry for the essay, people not trying reusable period products cause it's gross always hits a nerve for me 😅

I super appreciate these videos you're doing as a mother of a teen girl. I had a hysterectomy at 22 - so my days of periods are long gone and forgotten (37 now), and looking for period products for my daughter is a bit of a hit or miss because I can't recommend anything personally that wasn't available 15 years ago. It's nice to have this sort of testimony to look at when it comes to options. Thank you!

I'm so glad you're making these videos. I'm a 27 year old woman and I only learned of alternatives to plastic pads and tampons about four years ago. And even then, I only learned of the reusable cups. Ik started using these pads one period ago and I LOVE THEM. I've always preferred external over internal period-catchers, and I can't believe how comfortable these are. Hopefully I'll be able to educate my future children a bit better than my mom was able to do with me.

I switched to reusable pads around 7 years ago and they were not always this good 😅 . I found the ones made with bamboo fibres were the most absorbent and so far have the longest life span. Cotton ones only lasted 3 years, which is still amazing. the cup/pad combo is a winner! also TMI ...maybe who cares, around 4/5 months after the switch I found I was lighter and only 4 days instead of the full 7 that must be healthier surely?

Me: I don't have periods so why am I watching this? Also me: *Continues watching* So for those who might be confused about me not having periods, I have PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome) and high testosterone. Both of these conditions have my body produce more testosterone than estrogen and because of that my periods are basically non existent. It's a blessing and a curse really. Blessing because I don't have the monthly struggle but a curse because I don't know when I'll get it and it makes planning to have kids hell because I can't ovulate (not that it's an issue rn, I don't have plans to get pregnant any time soon). I'm working on getting the proper medication for my PCOS and high testosterone to hopefully get things under control.

I’ve personally found that the cheaper ones with the waterproof backing are really good at night, but slightly pricier ones (usually from Etsy or other handmade sellers) are better for out and about, and especially exercise. They’re normally fleece backed, so don’t move nearly as much. But owning a mix helps keep the cost down.

Just a note: cloth pads (or "rumps" : re-usable menstrual pads) that are backed with liquid resistant fleece don't move around as much as the one backed by PUL (polyurethane laminate) fabric. I've been using them for 5 years now, and while I do like to keep disposables in hidden stashes in vehicles for emergencies, I don't use them regularly. I love them. They honestly are so soothing. Like you said, a warm hug. Thanks so much for this video. Im glad that you do this kind of thing in an honest and normalising way, for girls negotiating being a woman. I love my reusable pads. I started using them about a year ago because I'm fully into peri-menopause and suddenly had the horror of 'oops moments' occasionally, making me paranoid I was going to pee myself all the time. I started using normal pads every day as a just in case measure, but it was costing me a fortune and defeated the object of wearing cotton undies because I had plastic next to my skin all the time. I started wearing these instead and became a fan immediately. It just makes me feel so much less self conscious when I'm out and about, knowing I can stay clean and dry, and I rarely need the back up, but worry when it's not there. I wear tampons during my period, but because I have a couple of days really heavy, they serve as back up for that too, as sometimes I bleed through the tampon. I keep one of those mesh zippy laundry bags in the bathroom laundry basket to put them in, and they go in the normal wash. If I need to, I rinse them out in the sink first, but like I say, mine are pretty much just in case anyway. Basically an extra gusset layer!

It'd be great if everyone had this attitude towards periods and eco-friendly products, instead of shouting at us girls saying that "women have been bleeding from centuries, and this didn't stop them from living their lives. You modern girls are just too weak and really don't know what it means to have extremely painful cramps and yet have to get up and do your work!". Well, I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm pretty sure I know my own body better than anyone else, you cannot come to me and say you're the only one who's suffered from painful period while other people are just lying about theirs and pretending they're dying. I'm really glad to see that things are finally changing, so keep up with the great job sis! The world really needs more people like you❤ Greetings from southern Italy 👋

So I was a diehard tampon user since the wings of a traditional pad literally rubbed my inner thigh raw, to the point of bleeding when I was a young teen (which was too much blood in one area). My friend bought the wrong size reusable pads and offered to just let me have them since she hadn’t used them and wouldn’t use them and didn’t feel like returning them. Though I was initially skeptical because of my previous pad experience, I no longer use tampons at all. The medium size is just too comfy, I totally get the warm hug for your hoo-ha 😂 I call it like sweat pants for your cooch, which at that time of the month, sweat pants are all I want to wear. Definitely love.

El, for your plant that’s suffering, I suggest putting it a bit closer to the light source (the leaves seem turned in that direction) and also recommend putting some sort of support. These plants don’t usually need fertilizer but make sure to water them when the soil feels dry. Don’t water them too much tho, since the roots can rot . Anywayssss good luck and have a nice day. I never bought any pads yet. I have made all mine. Upcycling is great for this, and I don't even use the waterproof PUL backer. Fleece is just fine. You can make them look so pretty with colourful cloth and buttons. All sort of shapes and sizes. Front bleeder, back bleeder, heavy gushers, everyone can be safe with cloth. And not only for the period, cloth pantyliners are like a constant feeling of feeling clean during the rest of the month. Can't even feel them. Also, so cute!

I had chronic and recurring BV, yeast infections, irritations from sitting in plasticky, wet material from disposable pads. I pre-rinse my cloth pads and let them dry until I’m ready to do a load of laundry that can handle the hottest water and dryer. Also, if you use a cup and don’t have a sanitizer, you need it! No more boiling your cup in the kitchen lol. I wish I had known about cups and cloth pads before my first period and I’ll absolutely teach my daughter about if I ever have one.

When younger and bleeding,, I used to use several sizes of home made cloths, made from worn out cotton flannel sheets ( you can use new flannel, of course) sizes were about- a 12" x 16", a 8or9" x 12''and much smaller ones. I layered them as needed. They were very comfortable, air circulated well and easy to wash; I soaked them in a pail with a little bleach to gather up a bunch for laundering all at once. These were much like diapers. They didn't work for long days away from home but were fine for home and short trips to town . No cost, comfortable, very effective, and eco friendly.

You should try rescue remove from the pot, gently remove the dirt, rinse roots, cut away any dead roots. Also if the dirt you remove is too wet then over watering is the issue, I've killed a few plants with too much water and also from too little water. But sometimes ya lucky and can start them over in a new pot with dry soil. Give it a good soak top of the soil, let sit in aprox a centimeter of water for 30 min. This will ensure the soil used is nicely soaked and hugging your plant roots happily. After 30 min check water level if any left discard this and allow to drain for 30 min, dump the excess, put into home location( basket, endtable, decorative pot). And every watering after I used this bottom watering method especially with the tricky house plants I have.

Ive been doing the washable pads for decades 😂. Its super easy to DIY your own washable pads. Pick a waterproof fabric for the bottom layer (I like flannel), 2-3 layers of an absorbent fabric (I use fleece). Cut out a 5 inch circle and layer your fabric. Machine or hand sew and there you go! A waterproof bag is a must during the week so you are not having to wash laundry until you have a full load to do.
