I have owned 3 tundras. And all 3 of them I've gone over 300,000 miles. I currently have a 2015 that I bought new and I'm Sitting at 382,000 miles With 0 issues.. I don't think these new V6 engines are gonna last as long as the 5.7 V8..

I agree. I have 2016 tundra limited. I did need a water pump at 160,000 miles. I have 203000 and going strong. Looking for another 2016 w low miles. Been rear ended 4xand said next time someone hits me they are going to know it. A girl w a tundra. 😊

I have a 2005 Toyota Tundra & I've heard the newer Toyota trucks not as good as the older ones. I like too that my Tundra not super big and chunky like the newer ones. Taking care of my truck, which has around 284,000 miles.Have no desire to buy something new that most likely is no good.

Scotty is always right, if you need fuel economy, go with a four cylinder car instead of turbo charger.

I just today, as in about two hours ago, got a call from the dealer who sold me my 2018 Tacoma Sport (which I LOVE) and said "The new '24s are in, so come on down and take a test drive". I was honest with her and told her I'm sticking with the generation 3, mostly because I don't want a four cylinder turbo. She said she totally understood, and she said a LOT of people are saying that as well.

07 4.7 Tundra with 450k here, needed a transmission rebuild recently. Ignore Toyotas advise to change the transmission fluid every 100k, the fluid is not meant to last that long. No major problems other than that, its been great.

Scotty you are so correct about the sunglasses, my prescription glasses still as good 10 years later and I got them half price because of getting them the same time as my regular glasses, those if had upgraded don’t see any difference except in the raised cost of purchase

On 2-29-24 I had to choose between a slightly used (6K mile) 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road, Premium pkg, 6’ bed Tacoma or an identical 24 model. Ultimately I chose the 23, ONLY because it’s has the proven 3.5L Naturally Aspirated (NA) V6. Historically it is proven that a Turbo engine simply doesn’t last as long and isn’t as durable or reliable as a NA engine.

Just bought the 24 Taco - heard the turbo has been in other countries for a while with no major issues. This vehicle drives like a dream to me - I got the TRD Sport with manual transmission - upgraded from an 06 Tundra with 280k miles. We'll see if the Taco will last - but I have a feeling it will.

I feel I was fortunate to find a new Lunar Rock 2023 Double Cab Off Road Taco in Nov. after a deer totalled her Outback wilderness. I sorta was wanting to wait on the 24’s but definitely glad I didn’t!

My son has a 2010 camry hybrid, 2.5 litre, that was burning 1 litre of oil roughly every 1500km. We did a piston soak using berryman b12 chemtool and now it only burns 1 litre every 4000km. I highly recommend berryman chemtool!

Hey Scotty! Love your content! I have been watching for a few years now. I know your wife has a Lexus es 300. I just bought my wife a 2003 es 300, and my pops has an 05 es 330. Got a 23 Taco mainly for that reason but also didn’t want to wait for a 24 and price increase. It’s a daily driver so didn’t need 4wd or any mods. Wife bought a 24 HL with the 4cturbo; all Toy vehicles with a few exceptions will have the 4. Only time will tell how that engine will hold up.

In our area we have to have a 4WD. Our older truck with 488K miles was getting tired, so when I heard that the Tacoma was going to a 4cyl turbo, I started looking around. In 2/29/24 I found a slightly used (6K mile) 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road, Premium pkg, 6’ bed for $2K under book. We bought it immediately. My wife and I are in our 50s. Well I’m pushing 60, so our Tacoma will be the last truck I’ll ever need to own.

Big fan of your work. I have owned a 2007 tacoma with v-6 auto. This truck was a beast. Sold and purchased a 2023 taco, v-6 auto. The 2023 was a dog, supposedly had more power and torque than my older taco, just couldn’t prove it by me. The 6-sp auto was absolutely horrible. I hated this power train combination so bad that I only put 5,000 miles on it, then SOLD it. Worst purchase I had ever made. Just an honest opinion from a previous taco owner. Keep up the good work

@scottykilmer Now in 2024 the Tacoma, Ranger, Colorado, and some Gladiators, have turbo 4 cylinder engines. The only one without turbo is the Frontier. What new 2024 mid-sized truck would you recommend from a reliability perspective? I cannot include the Honda Ridgeline in this comparison because it does not have enough ground clearance to go off-pavement much.

Gen 3 ea888 is a good engine, I had to walnut blast the intake valves and clean the injectors to fix a misfire, also have to grease the turbo actuator because it would get stuck and car would go into limp mode. It's good other then that, doesn't burn oil and runs like it's new at 160k. I use 91 fuel, started using 87 when prices went up and that's when misfires and carbon buildup got bad.

The biggest let down for the V6 wasn't the engine but that crappy transmission. Imagine if it had the 8 speed. They could of bumped up the torque and power and still increase mpg. The same could be said for the V8.

I share his view, my Subaru has the "flat six"--3.6R, and they don't make it anymore, time for the "better" turbo four. Like Scotty, I don't see how they could be better than a "normally aspirated" six. Switch to Acura, same thing, their wonderful six, now is gone, or so it would seem? In favor of the "better" enhanced four. For me--I would pick up a used Subaru or Acura, with the normal six.

Turbos are just going to need more maintenance and the engines won't last as long. Naturally aspirated is the way to go. I'm too old to care about getting maximum horsepower. Before the muscle car Era, many 8 cylinders didn't get 200hp.

Scotty , one of my cars I bought new is a TURBO Hyundai Tuscon.. with a tiny 1.6 engine Limitied ...I bought it new in 2017 on looks , as its a sharp small SUV. That sucker is going on 150,000 miles with the orginal engine, turbo, tranny .. and same brake pads and rotors. I just change the oil every 5,000 miles .. and it runs and runs and runs !! I think any new modern car can make it to at least 150k . You don't have to limited yourself to a Toyota brand only.

Eh.....thats not always true about the headgasket sealer...i had a blown headgasket on my 94 sable ,i dont remember the brand of headgasket sealer, but i had coolant in the oil, i used the hadgasket sealer, let it idle, changed to oil, and drove it another year, i sold it to someone because i had too many cars, it still ran fine,

The old 4.7L and 5.7L were unbeatable. The new Tundras have already had well over 40 documented complete engine failures, all between 10k miles and 60k miles. Terrible....all these new cars are a joke, they don't care if they last 200k like the vehicles we are accustomed to, and they charge 40% more too. I wouldn't trust any of the new turbos from any brands....all just throw away garbage.

The turbo 4 Tacoma has 50 pound feet of torque more than the outgoing V6 at 1700 RPM and the same HP. It will probably do a better job towing that boat out of the water! Get your facts straight! TRD Jon just did a cross country trip in his ‘24 TRD off road Tacoma and averaged 21 mpg. The outgoing V6 in that configuration doesn’t come close to that.

I have a 22 TRD OR v6 na and it averages 23 cross country and 19 around town I also got overland tuned 2nd week after buying it new.
