It's uncomfortable for fans to hear about legends like Dr. Dre and other icons acting as gatekeepers. But its a fact. Dre had over 10 years in the music biz, by the time Royce met him for a deal, most artists expect the Veteran to offer them some game, some insight, some coaching about the industry. You can see from the volume of artists that have been jerked by the industry, that the Vets didn't teach them shit about contracts, publishing, masters, copyrights, naming rights, etc.
@354allday2 жыл бұрын
It's not meant for the artists to win in the industry. Still don't understand why ppl rush to be part of it? They see the stories of artists being jerked out of $, held back and looked over for ppl wit lesser talent. It's on the artists to learn from others mistakes can't go into like I'm the different it won't happen to me.
@stigmaone56592 жыл бұрын
To be fair Dre wouldn't be my first call for advice anyway. He had to walk away empty handed from two things he created before he found his way. From NWA/Ruthless and from Death Row. Sure he's a billionaire now but that's due to headphones and not any record deal. Those are some shady waters that even a legend like Dre had trouble wading through.
@AldoApachi-2 жыл бұрын
At that point Dre know a lot, but not as much to take on the responsibility. You can ask me anything, and I can answer you whatever because I'm not taking the responsibility for you. Royce wanted to hear the right answer - well there was none. what if 20 years later he sat here and said Dre told me to say no to million dollar deal? And especially with Dre who don't release shit. I see Royce would record 50 albums with Dre, none of them get released (just like Stat quo) and Royce saying he took that million dollar deal from me. you gotta be your own man and make your own choices to be responsible for them. Dre ain't your father

@GlowStreet312 жыл бұрын
just wrong. he was a ghostwriter in aftermath in the late 90s after that he got his own label situation he had rock city with em which was at a time when em was very well known but he didn't settle for that. he stayed dropping features and projects on his own then he formed slaughterhouse em wanted to sign them they did the bad meets evil album. layers, book of Ryan the prhyme projects and algorithm which he produced are all great projects and he just get better with time lyrically wise and songwriting wise. bottom line he has been connected to em and he could've just been another aftermath artist that stayed on the shelf but he took matters into his own hands and he gained all of his stripes. I always check for his new music so nothing but positive words for this man.
