Love the 155. Its mad to think up until a couple of years ago it might have been fair to say that the 155 couldn't even be given away! And they they are starting to command very strong money. Love the channel.

I have a quick question for the Fiat 500 I'm repainting. The rear bumper paint has chipped off. I've sanded it back and applied filler. What grit do you recommend to sand the filler smooth and then what grit after primer?

80, then 120, 240, 400 then filler primer then 600 then colour

Just remember you need to make decisions that make most business sense rather than satisfying us! If we're telling you to repair a door, for example, but you can get a perfect one in colour for cheap then you will have to disappoint us because your time is too valuable! 😁👍

The Alfas look great, especially that Brera convertable. What's your opinion on the reliability of Alfas? I'd consider getting one, but from what I hear I couldn't risk buying one and not being able to rely on it daily.

That Brera will be fine, I hopped the front of my 159 off every bump in Ireland at ludicrous speeds for 200k Km ;-) (1.9 jtdm 16v lusso, i loved that car) Love the GT too, not a big fan of the 155 though.

When I try to do a large piece the base coat is very dry and a bit orange peel does this matter as I will be spraying the lacquer over it 🙈

Glad you've gone the gun route, you'd be far, far better off doing them all like that, I paint outside if it's nice and if you can paint the finish is good to go with 2 pac, if it's not somethings gone wrong, maybe one of those inflatable booths might be a good idea, about 600 quid and spray yourself, I'm sure you can, only time I use cans is maybe a bit of black on a black car, 1 k clears not much good either, base coat and 2k good quality clears the way to go mate,

@@ChopsGarage I'm sure everybody would be happy with 2 pac floating about mate, what about trying hvlp paint system probably no more overspray than cans, you just can't get the coverage with a can and the finish must be terrible if your 800 ing it, all I do is at the worst is 1200 then G3 and that's fine for sale cars.

When you are using rattle cans do you not take the car in to the paint supplier and ask them to electronically scan the existing paint adjacent to where you are going to paint ( I don't know what the hand held scanner is they use) because I never use the manufacturer code because on older cars the paint has faded anyway ? I haven't done many cars so far but I have never had the paint supplier turn round and tell me what they have scanned is what the manufacturer has put on the car. I have also been told that some manufacturers may use two slightly different paints on the same code. I don't think they are scamming me because the paint prices are reasonable and they don't charge me for scanning the existing paint. Just a thought.

Best thing to do for the best colour match possible is polish up an area with the compound so it's nice and clean. You take that to the paint supplier and what they use is a camera, Usually take a couple of pictures of the panel. Then they use a usb cable connect it to a computer, the computer searches the colour database and comes up with the best match possible.

@@mycarprobs6688 Yes I try to get the existing paint around it reasonable but the more you polish sometimes the difference becomes more pronounced on the surrounding panels. When you are painting cheap (£1000) old cars there are limits. You can't polish a turd.

@@we-are-electric1445 I'm just talking about a colour match at the paint suppliers. you compound polish a small area , the camera goes on that small area for a more accurate reading and better match from the colour database. If the camera goes on a dirty panel with faded paint , you end up with a bad match. Seriously. What money are you charging for the car. At the end of the day. Does it start and drive well. Does it look half decent. And is it at a discount. Sod it. Move on. Sell the car. When you a start look at cars as "white good on wheels" as I do you'll change your stance.
