Hey randy my dad and I sold cars back in the 1990's and we did the same as you we fixed everything that needed fixed and if we need paint or rust we did it and made it right. We made profit and we lost some as well. If we didn't want to fix it or it was more than it was worth we would run it to the auction and put AS-IS IN TOW AWAY CONDITION NO RIDE AND DRIVE. NO REJECTIONS. I remember we lost almost 2000.00 on a 1990 Ford Ranger with a cranked head. I miss doing this. But unfortunately dad passed away in 2010.

Not sure if the 2.7 got updated for the Avenger, but on older 2.7 engines, the water pump fails and puts coolant in the oil. It's driven off the timing chain which makes the job a real bear. Just keep an eye on the oil and if you get milkshake, stop while you're ahead!

P0300: Random Multiple Misfire- This is one of the most common codes that is thrown when the engine is misfiring. It means that the engine has a misfire, but the computer can’t detect which cylinder that it’s coming from. This code is often thrown when there is a fuel issue, or a timing issue, and not just bad ignition components. That is unless all the cylinders share a common coil (distributor ignition). P0301-P0312: Cylinder Specific Misfire- These trouble codes correspond with a specific cylinder misfiring (cylinder number corresponds with its place in the firing order). Although it’s a bad sign when the service engine soon light flashes, when one of these codes comes up with it (and nothing else), it’s almost always one spark plug or ignition coil.

Here is an idea. Replace the back three plugs and coils, trash the old number one coil, and put the intake back on it. If it doesn't run well, you have two used coils that might be better than the ones in the front, and its easy to change the front coils and plugs. If it runs well, you are done at the cost of three coils and six plugs.

Didn’t think much of it, buttoned it all up and considered it done. Few weeks later I found out where the clamp went after hearing what sounded like rod knock.Worm clamp Screw was imbedded in the piston on cylinder 3, the clamp was resting on the valve. I ended up pulling the engine and rebuilding it. Expensive screwup on my part!

I commend you for taking the high road and your concern for the next owner. We all sleep better at night knowing we did the right thing. If it were me, I would spend the 3/4 day sanding the bad spots down to base and scuff the sides getting all somewhat smooth and then do the $300 Macco. True, Macco wont guarantee finish product, but that is a cya. If you don't have the time, then let them sand and get the guarantee. That said, paint it the same color! When done it should bring $25-2700. If there is a long delay for paint, schedule the work but at the same time post the sale now at $1900 and see what happens. Stay safe........
