Ian Curtis lead singer of Joy Division Initially, the band named themselves "Warsaw", from the song title “Warszawa” on David Bowie's then-recent album Low, but as this name somewhat conflicted with that of a London-based group named Warsaw Pakt they renamed themselves Joy Division.
A very big thank you for reading my notes and if you enjoy my channel, please leave a like, subscribe, and switch on the notifications bell so you will be notified of when new videos go up it costs you nothing 😊

This moniker was derived from the 1953 novella The House of Dolls, which featured a Nazi concentration camp with a sexual slavery wing called the "Joy Division". The cover of the band's first EP depicted a drawing of a Hitler Youth beating a drum and the A-side contained a song, "Warsaw", which was a musical retelling of the life of Nazi leader Rudolf Hess.[35]

"There's a taste in my mouth as depression takes hold" a line from Love Will Tear Us Apart. You just need to read between the lines to know there was no coming back from his dark place. Such a waste of a young life he was so talented in his lyrics. Thanks Alan nice to see you back ❤

Hi Charmaine well observed about the line. People do write about what they know and it's ironic that this dark style of music was popular. A lot of writers of books and music said that if you're too happy, you tend to become mediocre. Look at Rumours by Fleetwood Mac. When they were all splitting up they did their best music. Thank you ever so much for encouraging me. You're a star! Much love to you, Alan

Hey Alan, great video. I first heard of Ian Curtis and Joy Division from a Viewers Special video from Arthur Dark(Hollywood Graveyard), it was after watching that video I looked up the song Love Will Tear Us Apart here on KZbin. Pretty good song, I believe sometime after Ian's death the remaining members of Joy Division became New Order. They would be known for songs such as Blue Monday, True Faith and Bizarre Love Triangle. Once again great video Alan, much respect from the U.S.

So well said Alan: time always teaches us lessons. Your video and a beautiful day in Macclesfield ease the pain to all of us remembering how young Ian was when he passed away. I was lucky enough to have the "Unknown Pleasures" album (although, in those days before Internet, I didn't hear about his untimely death for sometime after.) Their sound and THAT artistic album cover left a deep impression... only years later to discover the "artwork" was based on the radio frequences emmited by a Pulsar star.... 1980 was, for me, so special with such diverse "pop" music! That summer I camped at Knebworth -among 180,000 others - and watched... The Beach Boys.. Elkie Brookes.. The Blues Band.. Mike Oldfield.. Santana.. and, top Newcastle folk rock group, Lindisfarne!! I'm sure yourself Alan - and your followers - have wonderful memories of music back then, whether it be Joy Division or any other group... ... and, crikey, these last 45 years have passed so quickly! Thanks again for your enlightening and memory jogging work Alan.

Joy Division, may have been short lived, but the influence that they exerted was 'Gargantuan'!! And that was more than in part, as a result of the 'enigmatic genius' of Ian Curtis!! I

Ian Curtis is alive and eternal , Hello Ian Curtis and co and all other cosmic eternal peoples, the recent midsummers eve/day Stonehenge free festival gathering 2024, was a cosmicly amazing successful event , I was there and pleased to see all the free natural eternal peoples of the infinite wild natural eternal cosmos enjoying themselves, there WILL DEFINATELY soon be the return of the Stonehenge free festivals FOR ETERNITY , REGULARLY, and ALL other free festivals also FOR ETERNITY , the IMPORTANT thing is, the more the natural wilderness returns back to the northern side/edge of Stonehenge (where the small "barrow hills" and traditional pyramid stage/ main festival site area is), i.e. the tarmac, roads, fences, artificial things e.t.c. being taken up, and the natural mud, turf and other plants growing back,, the sooner the better, and the Stonehenge free festivals Will DEFINATELY return even MORE sooner it is PRIMARILY NECESSARY for the northern plains tundra/fields ( i.e. where the main free festival, pyramid stage , small" barrow hills" usually is) to become completely natural wilderness again , there will still be a route to the south of Stonehenge for traffic travelling east to west/ west to east, and yet that route will eventually have the tarmac removed e.t.c. also , and then just become a flat dry smooth natural mud route that vehicles can STILL use 100% safely o.k. at the same speeds as before, (that southern only (east to west/west to east) road re-naturalisation (eventually back to a vehicle safe flat dry mud road) is in the more distant future, but to the sides and northern edges all around Stonehenge ,re-naturalisation back to completely natural tundra is VERY DEFINATELY IMMINENT and IMPORTANTLY it is better NOT to actually scorch/burn the actual turf/grass soils e.t,c. in any way , we are elf minimalist-tech eco-friendly(primarily) peoples, Stonehenge is here for ETERNITY , and so are we ALL, and so is all our eco friendly cosmic eternal music equipment e.t.c. any planes, helicopters, U.F.O. , other craft e.t.c. e.t.c. in the sky and space is ONLY Soviet Union Russian, so rest assured EVERYTHING is o.k. and 100% ECOFRIENDLY, see you soon and a DEFINIATE eco friendly free festival ETERNITY ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEED
