There are some basic errors in this video. After he divorced Janet Munro, Ian Hendry eventually married for the third time, and his wife gave birth to a daughter. He didn't have a son. He appeared in the very first episode of The Sweeney; in actual fact he was the very first character to appear on screen. Gabriel Hirschmann has written an excellent biography of Ian Hendry. If you'd bothered to read it your presentation would not be so full of errors.

I'll bet even Wikipedia got more things right about Ian Hendry than this so called fact channel. It said when he was in the Sweeney he played a character called Detective inspector Harris. In truth he played an armed robber called Dave Brooker. If the little things aren't right, goodness knows about the bigger things! If a KZbin channel is going to claim that what they're saying is fact, it would be nice if they were that! FACT!!!!

It's the usual tosh that happens when these American channels proliferate on YT - they haven't a clue about the British arts, culture or media of the time and produce absolute nonsense about the characters and actors who played them - usually they announce that they're dead when they're all still very much alive & kicking! I don't get what their current obsession is with British arts & culture but they could at least do some homework before they start telling us who we are/were!😖🙄

For USA viewers, the cop show The Sweeney was so called due to the London rhyming slang often heard back then. The Sweeney Todd ( 'The demon barber of Fleet Street' ) = The Flying Squad, which was the actual name of the Police unit it was based on; A fast response unit focussing on high profile gangland crimes.

The two Roles I remember most, was, ( 1 ) as the TOP door to door Salesman in'' Live Now Pay Later'', he drove a Bedford ''Dormobile Van, that had sliding doors, he would slide his open, and at the same time, pull the handbrake on, cut the engine, and leap out as the Van would come to a stop outside the House he'd call at. I read that several owners of those very popular vans had tried to copy that trick. Many failed , and had collisions. Role (2 ) was as the Ganster Boss's chauffeur in , ''Get Carter'' starring Michael Caine.

Ian Hendry was born to do 'The Lotus Eaters' - he has incredible 'presence' in that series - and portrays a wonderful range of acting skills, from natural, day-to-day conversation to deeply-felt emotional scenes. His appearance in 'Get Carter' does him a disservice, really - even though it was a bigger role as it was a 'proper film' as opposed to a series. But one of his most brilliant roles was as the detective in 'Girl in the Headlines' (1963) - where he creates wonderful screen presence in his dogged determination to solve the crime. 'Get Carter' shows him in an unsuitable role - his real talent was that he could portray a believable person on the screen - you can almost hear him breathing.

One of my favourite actors. As others have commented, he has a defining screen presence. He could play " jack the lad" characters such as in This is My Street(1964) and convince the viewer that his own persona matched the role. Yet he played the pathetic Alex in the Internecine Project allowing himself to be bullied and manipulated by James Coburn and came across just as believable. I also liked his part in Journey to the Far Side of the Sun and his local gangster role in All Coppers Are ...(1972). What I've often noticed is that he popped up in single episodes of series throughout the sixties and seventies when he was already an established actor and I find I'm looking for him in further episodes because he was so watchable! TPTV recently showed a series I thought was lost from 1969 called the Gold Robbers. Ian was in one episode of that. Very accomplished and much missed.

Live Now Pay Later wasn't exactly a comedy - at least one of the characters comes to a tragic end, if I remember right. The movie was very nearly lost altogether. Its 2020 reissue on DVD was from the only print known to exist at the time. No mention of an ITV drama series Hendry appeared in in 1966-7 - The Informer, about a disbarred barrister who makes a new career trading information for monetary reward. Only two episodes have survived the wholesale wiping so common in UK TV in those days.

04:00 He did NOT play the part of a Detective Inspector in The Sweeney. In fact, he played the part of the villain Dave Brroker in the first episode of the Sweeney, who at the end of the episode accidently shoots and kills the charcater of his boss, played by the excellent Brian Blessed. Also, unclear why you have included the word "Real" in your video title - I assume as partial clickbait, to imply that you have some special infomation. That he had problems in his life and with his health is readily known, e.g. from Wikipedia.

I’ve a recollection that Hendry didn’t get on with Caine during the filming of Get Carter because he was initially offered the lead before being pushed into the lesser role when the star came along. As well as a smaller role, the pay was presumably rather less, as well as missing the name above the title kudos. I’m guessing it wasn’t Caine’s fault, as such, but Hendry perhaps found it difficult to be so committed to the film as a result.

Very good presentation thanks freind ,and for me his most important acting role was in the highly rated ,avengers series I was only a young boy in the 70 s when it was going ,but it was a must see obviously it was Patrick Moore or as he was known steed ,in the show was the star but this man played a big part .

I thought Ian was terrific in The Persuaders episode 'The Time and the Place' playing Lord Croxley. By the way in the Sweeney episode 'Ringer' he played the part of a villian Dave Brooker not a DI.

Wrong attribute for The Sweeney. Hendry played a thug not a D.I. Get your facts right or your channel becomes rubbish!

Sorry - but from which brand of cereal box did you obtain the information for this abysmal video? It is littered with inaccuracies and is an INSULT to Ian Hendry. Do the research and CHECK your facts.....or why even bother?

“Live now Pay Later” should have got him going and he was earmarked to play Jack Carter. However Michael Caine was given the role as they were concerned about the booze and Hendry demoted to Eric Pace. That is Mike Hodges account. Should have been really big.

Ian was part of a group of actors to include Peter O ‘Toole, Richard Harris, Michael Caine, Richard Burton, Oliver Reed and Sean Connery. He died too young. When he was married to Janet Munro I think they tried to outdo each other in the alcohol stakes. I ❤all the films Ian appeared in but at the top is THE HILL released in 1965. Why the top? Well my late father spent 2 years out in Libya in National Service1952-1954 My father said that the character Ian played was spot on 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿❤️❤️😍🙏🙏
