John Hurt is/was my uncle. Wonderful man who cared about family deeply and went out of his way (and pocket) to make sure I had the best medical care at a time when I needed it. I lived with him in his London flat through that time and he would send me out to explore London and do the tourist thing at the weekends because even though I didn’t have anyone able to go with me he still disliked seeing a 20 something moping around a flat for the weekend. In that photo John and my brother could be twins, it was often only semi seriously suggested that if a film called for a ‘young’ John my brother would be perfect. I also have the same eyes as him, ‘they couldn’t see my eyes’ is hysterical especially since we call our eyes ‘little piggy Hurt eyes with no eyelid’. I miss him very much, he was such a dry comic and passionate actor, he hated all the ‘behind the scenes’ bonus extras on DVD as in his words ‘spoils the magic!’

To be honest Deadwood was pretty accurate in its historical timeline, there was really nowhere TO go with it after it had been brought into the United States, without fictionalising stories which would have robbed a lot of the shows integrity, if they had continued it would have been a fairly run of the mill soap opera of an expanding western town

I had the happy luck of meeting Mr Mcshane when I was still living in New York. I was going to the main comic book shop to go to in the city West Coast Comics with my friends. I just saw him on the way there waiting for that light to change at the crosswalk. So there I am standing next to Al Swearengen himself, and I say to myself what the hell try to talk to him. So I say hi he say hi back I told him I am big fan of his, and we talking till we parted way on the street. I have some celebrities on the streets of New York over the years and I got to say that was the nicest encounter ever. He really is the sweetest. He could tell when I started speaking at first I was a little nervus and he was so chill and just told me to take my time we have a lot of walking to do. Ian McShane's filmography is vast and to be respected. My personal favorite is 44 Inch Chest (2009) where he plays a gangster/enforcer (and an out, unapologetic homosexual) named Meredith, who has loads of back 'n' forth with John Hurt's character, Old Man Peanut. I highly recommend this to fans due to its dark and hilarious script and its ensemble cast, comprised of a veritable "who's who" of British cult/character actors; Ray Winstone, Tom Wilkinson, Stephen Dillane (Stannis the Mannis), Joanne Whalley, Steven Berkoff and Andy de la Tour. Sexy Beast and Deadwood are very close McShane runners-up, but I still need to watch Lovejoy, as it was before my time.

Colbert is one of my favourites, but talking over guests is unforgivable, especially when it's only to make a joke.

Ian McShane is such a legend. He did SUCH a good job in Deadwood and everything else.

Ian McShane is perhaps my favorite character actor of all time. His one-shot on The West Wing as a Russian functionary is still one of my favorite moments on one of my favorite shows. Deadwood, and Al Swearengen in particular, are just beyond reproach fabulous.
