I'm amazed that you have the right to slate "miele" and even more amazed you're stoooopid enough to suggest it's the twin dos ??? I laughed out load 🤣 I've used twin dos in my miele w1 power wash for 7years it's outstanding extremely quiet and as for the twin dos not 1 item if clothing has been destroyed throu twin dos 😮I'm amazed miele not suing you for slander !!! Any form of liquid would Corode metal, did you not know this ?? 🤔 cannot believe you would think it was the twin dos 🙄 😅

It was the Miele service engineer that told me it was the TwinDos system that caused the problem. I was also sent photos of the same thing happening to owners of TwinDos machines and comments from other people who have had the same problem as me. One owner had his machine replaced twice after the TwinDos had leaked the entire contents of one of the containers into the bottom of the washing machine. I think you must be the stooopid one for thinking that because your machine has worked for 7 years without any problems it means that every washing machine that comes off Miele’s production line will be fault free. Not every liquid corrodes metal to the extent and speed that the Miele detergent corroded the bottom of my W1 Excellence. The corrosion was enough for the Miele service engineer to condemn my machine for scrap and order me a brand new replacement. If the same thing happens again I will make another video, but I will certainly be less polite about it and would never buy a Miele washing machine again. Miele will not be able to sue me for slander for telling the truth, especially when it’s backed up with video evidence.

You're kidding right? Look around online and plenty of people have had issues with TwinDos. As for 'any form of liquid' corroding metal... Er, did you not pay attention in school? We're not just talking about 'any form of liquid', with Ultraphase 2, we're talking about Hydrogen Peroxide, very much an oxidising agent which can corroded a variety of metals, including those that would normally not be effected by water alone. As for Miele taking the guy to court for slander... Next time ask a lawyer what they think before posting such nonsense! I'm super happy that your Miele is working fine, but that doesn't mean other people can't have problems.

Ive had the same issue with my exact machine, they replaced it with no problems and touch wood its working perfectly but as you say it has slightly tainted my view of Miele. If it goes wrong again I will replace with another Miele but a non twin-dos model. Cant fault Miele support, absolutely fantastic and reassuring! You certainly pay for the quality of service compared to other cheaper brands but worth every penny.

Apart from what now seems 100% sure - it's a TwinDos related issue, the machine looks very well built. I had my AEG for 5-6 months and undergone 2 unsuccsessful repairs. When the technician removed the back panel of the AEG it looked completely different to Roger's Miele. There wasn't any metal part in it. Everything was plastic.

When I started watching, I first thought that the Miele was broken and you were replacing it with this top-loading washing machine that consumes tons of water and washes poorly. But luckily you'll still have Miele. The second thing is that I'm wondering how long you've had this washing machine and that the drum corroded...?? This is interesting, after all, these washing machines are made and tested supposedly for 20 years of trouble-free use, and you have had it for much less time? I was very positively surprised by the Miele company that they simply replace the washing machine with a new one without attempting to repair it. I have had the WWR860 WPS for a month now, after many washing machines in which something always didn't suit me and was annoying to me, and I am simply in love with it! The way she washes is a space and a story for hours! And it looks beautiful. I also bought it, or rather I bought it first, the TWR780 WP dryer, which is also simply divine! Believe me, I had probably 5 dryers... each one had something wrong, this one has no faults! I'm actually curious as to how many ml your twindos dosage was set to? With medium-hard water of about 240 ppm, I reduced the recommended twindos1 from 48ml to 38ml and twindos2 from 45ml to 36ml. At the recommended and slightly lower values, the laundry foamed a lot and even additional rinsing was not able to completely remove the foam, even with the light dirt setting. ps. Additional info for you. Miele actually once introduced bottles that you could fill and use your own other detergents, but they quietly withdrew them because other detergents clogged the Twindos system. Other liquids are usually very thick and gel-like and Miele does not recommend their use. After all, you probably buy a washing machine with auto-dosing so that you don't use your own detergents, only those recommended by the manufacturer. However, your own gel and powder can be successfully used by adding it to the top drawer and turning off Twindos dosing before doing so. phase 2 is bleach - composition: HYDROGEN PEROXIDE Alcohols C10 - C18 Ethoxylated SODIUM DIETHYLENETRIAMINE PENTAMETHYLENE PHOSPHONATE DISODIUM DISTYRYLBIPHENYL DISULFONATE CITRIC ACID In the long run, soda or citric acid simply react with metals and cause corrosion. When you bleach clothes with bleach, the bleach is diluted, and they don't stay in them for several months or half a year, so they don't get damaged. See what happens to the clothes and pour some bleach or citric acid on it and leave it undiluted and see what happens to it. Regards,

The more function, the more problems. That is exactly the reason why i bought the most basic Miele washing machine (W1 selection) and dryer. The results are the same. I use both organic liquid and powder detergent. Miele even recommends using powder from time to time. Too bad you cant use powder with the Twin Dos system. My parents have a Miele washing machine from 1998, used a lot when they had a restaurant, and its still runs! Worth buying a Miele? Absolutely!

I am on my third machine in 2 years from Miele. The w1 with the m touch screen the top passion one. First one had an issue with springs, then the second one had spring issues, noisy buzzing recirculate pump and the drum was bent. So a new drum and new springs. Machine got going again to not too long later have an error code come up to say a leak was detected. Turns out twindos had leaked through the entire machine. And corroded the whole bottom. I’m on my third machine! I also have their top of the line dishwasher and regularly get dirty items after a sensor wash… never happened when I had a Bosch that cost 1/4 of the price. Really off Miele these days. Full of issues and regularly failing to get the job done and they cost me a small fortune!

Most detergents are alkaline by nature and if concentrated enough can be corrosive. I’d imagine it doesn’t affect the clothes because once it’s mixed with the Part 1 & water & diluted it’s probably a much more mild chemistry. Interesting that they’d separate the detergent into 2 parts and introduce that issue though.

Yes, after 1year the waterproof indicator came on. Sevice excellent. Just inside the machine, not floor, aot of mess from the blue one. We thought after doing research and looking at the metal rods in the twin dos going into the plastic housing ring on bottle. A design fault. Hard metal meets firm lastic, movement, then leaks. It made sense. The machine goes into fast spin. So this may be it. I got a new model straight away. But I'm not using the twin dos on it. We have hard water. So in settings I programed it for soft. Used 25ml soda crystals. Measured the stated amount on twin dos bottles into the top draw. It works. I know it's a faff but I can't go through this again. I got free caps and two bottles free with first washer. Then on net there was an offer for five free bottles. And the same for the second machine. This should last three years. I know they know this is a design fault. It's not because it needs cleaning. The machine automatically tells you that when it's ready for maintenance. Only needs it if you haven't used the twin dos for a while.xxx

I find anything made by Electrolux , zanussi , John Lewis , aeg nearly bought a 8 thousand series before my lg a year ago. My old zanussi jetsystem lasted years and the one before that without jetsystem lasted years too and my dads old tricity bendix also lasted many years. My old Miele was 10 when it died it had done over 10 thousand loads. And I got a zanussi aquacycle 3kg as a spare in the cupboard incase of brake downs. It’s simple will probably last years. These days nothing seems to last long… never seen a Miele do this in a year! But heard these auto dose ones are troublesome… I am happy with my lg it’s great.

Thank you for this post. I was about to purchase a 9kg Twin Dos machine. Maybe I will buy a non Twin Dos. Our Miele W865 washer is almost 23yrs old with accompanying tumble dryer. It goes almost every other day. Both live in the garage and look like new. On the washer, all I have replaced (myself) in that time is the door seal, motor brushes, motor belt and shock struts for about 130 pounds total. On the dryer only the drum lamp. Our 22yr old Miele dishwasher died at Xmas due to sump leak but it only ever had the door seal changed once. We replaced it with a 2022 slim unit. It is not built as well as the 22yr old one and in retrospect I should have bought the Siemens at 1/2 the Miele price.

Suprised you didn't go to a laundrette so you could try out their machines, It's interesting the variations you get, from very new to ancient, some tumble dryers seem so old that it's amazing that their still safe to use! As for hooking up the Giantex to a regular tap, appliance connectors are the same thread/size as a regular outdoor tap so any tap adaptor that can have the "click" fitting removed will work. Chemicals wise the number two certainly is marked as corrosive and I suppose it could indeed corrode parts of the machine dependant on strength, I wonder how strong it actually is given it's designed for domestic use by someone untrained in chemical safety, I know we have been told by our chemical supplier at work that the stuff we use is stronger than what you'd buy in a supermarket. Being corrosive won't be an issue as it will be heavily diluted in use, naturally having it really strong means they can use less of it per wash and you not only get more washes per bottle, it's better for the environment as they is less packaging per wash, like quadruple concentrated squash. We use concentrates for are chemicals at work that are a lot stronger than the final RTU product that the cleaners use, these are mixed on a water powered chemical mixing machine, just turn the knob to the desired chemical (choice of glass, toilet, acidic bathroom or air freshener) and push the bottle up the fill tube to fill, it's a great system. Also if Miele sell empty bottles to put your own stuff in then that's potentially an issue, chemicals should never be put into unlabelled or incorrectly labelled bottles. If something happens with the chemical (getting it on your skin, in your eyes or somehow drinking it) you need to know immediately what it is so you don't get the wrong treatment, COSHH regulations might not apply at home but they should still be followed. Personally I think half the problem might be that the bottles are at the bottom of the machine, so there is more hardware needed to pump the chemicals into the machine than if they were at the top and as such more places for leaks to occur

I was seriously considering replacing my AEG washing machine with a Miele twindos machine. I’m generally pleased with the AEG but was thinking that the twindos system might save on detergent and that the Miele would also be more energy efficient. However as my AEG is still within its 5 year warranty I think I’ll wait for now. Clearly Miele customer service is very good but the problem you and others have experienced with the twindos machines has dampened my enthusiasm. Hopefully your replacement machine will be faultless and you won’t experience the same problem again.

The ultra phase two uses a very concentrated bleach and HNO³ wich both are corrosive and can lead to rubber parrishing over time,but the textiles aren't affected by those substances...its a wayy too concentrated formula to be used on every wash and it is why the twindos system fails...the rubber just can't take it,also these are known for causing allergies so hopefully you are having no skin issues....I would however just never use twindos on the new washer and buy some refillable compartments,filling the number two with whites detergent and one with coloureds/darks detergent

Think you might mean a solution containing water and H2O2, which is Hydrogen Peroxide (an oxidising and bleaching agent), used as a stain remover and microbiocide. I believe one of the other ingredients is a bleach activator, also contains (I think) a thickening agent, and some citric acid, according to the MSDS. mymiele.by/media/datasheets/99-care-collection/100246474-000-00_MieleDSPUltraPhase2_124V2-00_190213.pdf So it will remove organic stains from the clothes, and also kill mould and bacteria, keeping the washing machine clean, which a liquid detergent would not. Washing powders (and stain removers) also use Hydrogen peroxide (sodium percarbonate releases it when it reacts with water) plus a bleach activator.

I think the corrosion and that residue is maybe a reaction from the twin dos solution and the coating on the metal, as for the oil that could be from the hydraulic drum balancing struts or maybe even oil/grease from the motor. This is what makes me think they had to replace the machine as its damaged those bits whereas of its just the twin dos system they would replace just those parts

My Miele WKF130NDS that was bought January 1996 has just broken down . I guess its , as usual, something to do with the bearings. Even though I like the idea with light in the machine, but thats only in the twin dos machines. And those I would never buy of 2 reasons: 1. exactly the problem with the risk of corrosion, as the problem was here. That will probably repeat with the new machine. 2. I dont like liquid washing detergent, as it is very difficult to wash out of the fabric again. Wether I will buy a new Miele again is an open question to me.
@rallicat7362

Very concerning that the machine broke down in that way - if the cause is the UltraPhase 2 then that would kinda indicate that Miele haven't thought through the design of the system properly. The main active ingredient in UltraPhase 2 is Hydrogen Peroxide, and if they haven't properly designed the system to handle the substance 'sitting' in the various internal tubes and pipes, such that it eventually leaks and then corrodes the parts inside ... well that's kinda bad. As for this being a question of running the TwinDOS 'cleaning' cycle ... well, I just looked at the ingredients list for The Twindos care bottle that Miele sell and it contains -you guessed it- Hydrogen Peroxide too! Plus, no matter how much you might clean and flush the tubes ... well, the purpose of that is to prevent blockages, surely? If the issue is coming from having a chemical substance 'sat' in the system - well, it's still gonna be there the rest of the time anyway. Kinda gives me second thoughts about Miele.

May be it speaks volumes that Miele are no longer open about construction materials of the various washer models on their website. They used to declare the cheaper models had their fibreglass / plastic outer drum while more expensive models had stainless steel outer drums. As far as I know they've never declared the wetted drum drive spider material for their machines. If they don't want to loose their good reputation I would suggest they are more, not less open about the wetted materials and life of their machines. At the moment we are led to believe that the cheapest Miele washer is still designed to last 20 years doing 5 wash cycles per week !! If it's really only 12 years then say so ! N.B. 1. Regarding Spider material Aluminium can be made more corrosion resistant if Silicon is added to the melt as is the case for gas fired condensing boilers with aluminium main heat exchangers (Worcester). May also apply to a washing machine environment? N.B. 2. Of course the manufacturer can determine when the washer wil fail even though the materials are good by designing in when the programmer will fail for example. One would hope that a company like Miele would have more the mentality of Rolls-Royce rather than Ford (although nothing much wrong with Ford nowadays tbf). They'll have to be careful not to loose their good reputation. I imagine that Bosch, Siemens & Samsung are their main competitors.

Hi, thank you for such a comprehensive review. I was just about to order one of the many discounted twin dos machines currently on offer throughout the UK incl John Lewis. I think you'll find that the second dose is bleach and thus corrosive to components not intended to be in contact with it. In the wash, it's obviously diluted but in the dosing system, it remains concentrated. I'm really keen to understand how your new machine is performing and whether the newer models have the issue resolved. There is a newer verion of the one you show on here. Best wishes, James.

This is honestly a common problem with the TwinDos system since usually the UltraPhase 2 product is very corrosive, I suspect Miele knows this problem, they also sell adapters for the TwinDos for you to use any detergent or softener of your choice but for how much these Mieles costs I prefer a decent Bosch Serie 6 with the iDos which I do find more convenient to use and clean. Again, I can guess why Miele replaces the whole machine at that point other than repairing it as the bottom can rust even more causing some serious damage

I trink that They made them until about 2016, before Moving To W1. I Read that There were some dodgy circuit boards on The later Version of tje previous Model. As for the liquid in the washers base ~ a spilt pipe/dislodged seal, o-ring? I assume that when they take the faulty machine away, it will be taken to a workshop and examined to what & where the leak is 🙂. Do you have that vintage HOVER washer that didn’t work?

Just had the same problem but after 7 years with my W1, I never used the Maintenance cleaner. It looks like the rubber o-rings in the receptacles stopped sealing so it's leaking through the twindos compartment. I'm changing them myself, pretty sure all these machines will suffer from this problem eventually.

I've tried two new dishwashers from the G7000 series now and Miele still haven't been able to deliver a fault free machine. In both cases there is a strange loud humming noise when the machine takes water in (not the drain pump). Probably from a noisy solenoid. Miele support refuse to tell me if this is normal or not. I've even send them a sound clip. They have confirmed it is a solenoid but refuse to tell me if it's suppose to sound like that. If I accept their offer to send a technician to my home and they conclude it's normal then they will charge me for it. So I'm now at the point where I will probably return the machine and never try to buy a Miele product again
@Fastandpro
@Fastandpro Жыл бұрын
It sounds like a blocked filter from your tap that needs cleaning or bad plumbing. Inlet solenoids do not give much trouble and fail completely. The same problem will occur if you replace the machine. Repair is not machine-related and not covered by warranty. Also, try turning the tap on a bit more that may be the problem.

We have had three Miele washer dryers in the last three years. The first one wouldn’t calibrate. The second one leaked oil all over our laundry. The third one burnt holes in our laundry which cost over £1,000 to replace, and which Miele refused to pay for. Last week we had a service visit and a software ‘upgrade’ since when the machine is malfunctioning eg for the drying programme you get soaking wet washing in boiling water. I will never buy another Miele appliance.

@@ibaisaic They're not the only manufacturer to have trouble with a dispensing system, the early Samsung autodose had problems with the softener dispenser, because the type of rubber they originally used in the seal would swell up, deforming significantly after prolonged contact with fabric conditioner! Give me a machine that takes washing powder every time, takes but a few seconds to measure it myself. Some of the lower end Miele's now have sealed plastic tubs and forgo the cast iron bearing support, which makes the still premium price of those particular models questionable. I wouldn't buy a Miele myself, can pay an awful lot less and still get a really good machine.

Its a real shame that your machine died after such a short amount of time. The ability of a detergent to corrode metal while sparing your clothes is due to several factors. Firstly, the detergent is diluted when it comes into contact with your clothes, which makes it less potent. Additionally, clothing materials are not typically made from metals, which makes them less susceptible to damage from corrosive agents. Lastly, the exposure time of the detergent on the surface matters; prolonged contact with metal surfaces can cause corrosion, while shorter exposure times might not have an effect.

twindos option is a bad idea, much more that can go wrong. Also liquid detergent can cause problems, you should use powder detergent most of the time with washing machines or at least once every few weeks to prevent blockages and doing a service clean wash once every few months @ 90c can help to dissolve gunk too.

Nothing modern is really to be trusted. People trust companies without questioning them and their things, that therefore gives them the opportunity to make things cheaply so they can sell more, make more money, more easily and quickly. It's a very modern thing to do, to care only about money pretty much. Modernity is an evil thing in my POV and so is excess efficiency, which is what modern appliances are(and being excessively efficient is also modern). Because they are manufactured in the most efficient, cheap, and easy way in order to be sold quicker and generate more money more quickly. I've got an old Miele around 20 years old. Made when they didn't go down the money-only route like how they've been said to have gone down.

Had Jason out to my Miele a few times… one of the best engineers Miele has. Unfortunately for me tho I had the first unit replaced due to smashing around on spin and a blown gasket then the second one got replaced as it arrived poorly made all plastic bits bent etc. Then my third one was damaging clothes and they were unwilling to swap it and trying everything they could to pass the blame to me. So I got rid and bought a Bosch and haven’t looked back since. It says a lot when a more basic Bosch is much better made then what’s supposed to be a premium washing machine.

Miele tech said( on the qt) its made to be so economical with water to get its rating that it doesnt actually have enough to wash clean. . If I add a bucket of water its great.. but why should I stand over it adding water at near a grand! Its getting replaced but I don't hold out much hope that the replacement is going to be any better

My washing machine and dishwasher both failed at the same time. We opted for a cheap Hotpoint washer as my young son was still in nappies, not potty trained… but an expensive Miele dishwasher on the basis that you buy once, buy quality, buy it to last. When the dishwasher came through the door it didn’t work, problem with the circuit board in the auto stop flood protection device. I called Miele and they were very sniffy, pointing out that if they found user error I’d be charged for the callout. It was a machine fault, not my liability… meanwhile the ‘cheap and cheerful’ Hotpoint has lasted brilliantly and proven to be a real workhorse… does sound like TwinDos is the Achilles heel…

i know nobody asked for my opinion on this matter, but here it is anyway - both LG and zanussi (+ electrolux group in general) have their good points and bad points, and both are certainly better choices than a lot of the stuff on the market today. both brands do lack different features that i really need, but both do have features that i love. what has to be remembered though, is that what is considered "better" is purely down to personal preference. it'll be different for everyone. based on my own experience with the brands, if i was going for old machines, then i'd take zanussi without question because older LG have balancing sensitivity issues that older zanussi don't have. however, if i'm going new, then i'd go with LG because my new zanussi's sensing annoys me and i can't bypass it like i can with LG.
