The main reason I came here is because my current washing machine is on its last legs and needs replacing. Frankly, I am getting sick of it. I live on my own so there is no discussion on the subject of heavy use, period. Regardless, average priced washing machine doesn't seem to last past 3-4 years and needs replacing. This is primarily why I am drawn to Miele, reliability. My friend has Miele washing machine and drier and he says he bought them both more than 10 years ago. To this day they look in absolutely pristine condition. I think I will take the plunge, fork out for Miele one hoping it will serve me more than 3-4 bloody years.

Canadian/American top load washers have very short cycles because the agitator is so harsh on clothes and they are not very good at stain removal. The cycle times on the longer cycles are only a guide based on a full drum and will reduce accordingly. But there are sensors that will reduce the time based on the wash load. Also there is a short option that will reduce the time for each cycle. As for the anti-crease at the end of cycle, it uses little to no electricity but as you've said it can be turned off. Washing machines use almost all of their electricity heating the water for the main wash.
@CandidClara Жыл бұрын
I agree about top loaders being harsh on clothes, but most people I know have washing machines with an everyday cycle for a full drum which is about 40 minutes.

Try holding the start button for 3 seconds, it may lock the controls and prevent accidental switching off. The minimum iron cycle may be the sweet spot that you are looking for for the wash duration however, if you are running smaller loads, the machine will calculate this and take it in to account. You may also have a 'short' option which will reduce the wash time (which varies depending on the program selected). I went from a Miele W487 which had incredibly fast wash times to W5877 which has much longer wash times but is a larger capacity machine. I guess it's the trade off for being able to wash more in one load. All on all, I love Miele appliances, they've stood the test of time in my household

I found this after purchasing Miele washer and dryer stackable units. I find that the washer is very quiet except for the buzzer which I have turned off. Since it is stackable and in its own little cubby I don't lean on it and shut it off accidentally but I know exactly what you mean, I have a range that has a front control panel and am forever turning it on by reaching over it. Both appliances have timed and pre-programmed options. I've tried them all and while I use some more than others they all work well. Overall, I am very pleased with both appliances, I would recommend either and would purchase them again.

Your machine is an entry level option, this makes no difference to wash performance, but, all of the models above your one have quick washes( Power Wash -49 minutes) . Your machine though, also has the ability to shorten the majority of washes including all cotton washes to bring most to around 1hr.39m. by pushing the "short" icon on the screen.

@@CandidClaraApologies, I couldn't find that part, only saw the part about the express cycle which is different - The express wash is also only a 3kg max load- it's more for refreshing clothes or for lightly soiled clothing. In regards to top loaders, the reason they can do shorter cycles is due to the heavy action of the agitator in most of them. This action is super hard on clothes and for this reason front loaders will also wash better and protect clothing/fabric as well. I Enjoyed the video!

The life expectancy has to be taken into account too; You are paying extra for something that is built to last and has replaceable parts. Our Miele can be on a flat-out spin and you can barely hear it (It is sat directly on concreate floor). It needs a boil wash every 6 months (or HG service engineer additive) to prevent mould build-up; Isn't that normal when everything is washed at 30°C these days?

Love your video. I have an old miele washing machine but before that was an agitator washing machine. Now time-wise. You had to fill the washing machine with hot and cold water and put in the detergent put your clothes in turn on the agitator until you think it has done its job. Take the clothes out and put them through the wringer begin carefully not to wring your arm. I'm not joking this type of machine did cause injuries. Clothes then fell into tubs of water to go through the wringer again into another tub of water. Finally last time the wringer then out on the line to dry. The process took about 1 hour and you had to stay there until washing finished. Yes, miele takes about 2 and a half hours but you can walk away and leave the machine to do the work. Oh yes. But if I could get my old agitator washing machine fixed I would it cleaned wollen blankets super well and in my opinion got clothes super clean. However, it requires your time. Love my miele. It's over 20 years old and never needed anyone one to fix anything. Just keeps on going

express cycles of 20 min are intended for individual lightly soiled items, you should know that. In order to save energy and water, the cotton cycle must last long enough to achieve an effective washing effect. You should also know this, especially after 6 years of using the washing machine. In my W1 Miele, I can shorten the washing time with the express option in the cotton program and then it lasts about an hour, if you wanted more additional options, you should buy a higher Miele model and not complain now that yours does not have additional settings. Miele is the best washing machine and has the best washing programs. the height of ridiculousness is to criticize a washing machine for the fact that when it's washing and you lean on it, it turns off! :)

WE've had our Miele for about 3 years and it makes me crazy. Yes, I should read the manual straight through instead of just picking it up when something doesn't work right but why is it so finicky! My complaints: I regularly neglect to hold the start button long enough and walk away only to come back and find that the washer didn't start. If I try to wash a single item - this just happened again today - a sweater on delicate, cold for example - the load is "unbalanced" (at least I think this is the problem) and it won't drain - even when you put it on Drain and Spin. The length of the normal cycle is still too long - 1 hour and a half or thereabouts for my machine.

Thank you for sharing your feedback! Very interesting about the limited duration option for the cycles. My washer (Whirlpool) does the same thing with the tumbling the drum occasionally to keep the clothing from settling for 24 hours after a wash, because there is an option called "Fan Fresh". This air intake + tumbling prevents mold/mildew build up and from your clothes smelling damp if you forget to take them out. This allows me to start my wash cycle at 10pm, go to sleep and find the clothes to be still fresh at 10 am and move to the dryer. Does Miele have a similar option??

I am concerned about the drum size on the Miele, but I am more concerned about the cleanliness of the clothing. We have a Miele dishwasher (our 2nd) and it has excelled beyond any other dishwasher I have ever owned. How well does the washer clean clothes?
@CandidClara Жыл бұрын
I’m no expert, but every few months I run the hottest cycle on the machine empty to clean it, it’s amazing how much detergent foams up when you aren’t putting any in, so it obviously helps flush it out. I’ve never had issue with smells or with clothing not being clean, beyond of course obvious stains (children!!)
@disoneleg4 ай бұрын
You have to run a 'hot' wash 90° at least every 5 or 6 weeks depending how frequently you use the machine. Run it empty with no clothes in it and use a product like WPro cleaner in the hot wash. If possible try to run a wash cycle with towels or bed linen at 60° at least once a week and don't use liquid detergent but a powder detergent instead. If possible when you've finished using the machine dry out the rubber gasket with a cloth and leave the door open an inch or two and also leave the detergent drawer slightly open, again about an inch or two. This allows air into the machine and should help to avoid odours & mold.
@tonyh5295 Жыл бұрын
Nice review - Question: How has the machine been with regards to keeping clean and its tendency to develop mold (drum and door gasket)? Do you use a "cleaning cycle" with like an "Affresh" product periodically? or a manual wipedown? My top load has become very hard to clean - at the point that I think other than a disassembly to clean the insides manually it still has bits of black gunk inside. Ours is probably 10 yrs old ... but has been this way for some time. Also have you found the load size to be a limitation (ie. are you able to handle comforter for a king/queen bed? ) Thanks for this video - its always nice to get a review down the road and not just when its right out of the box ... 🙂
@CandidClara Жыл бұрын
No issues at all with the dreaded black gunk, I do occasionally (very occasionally, maybe twice a year) run a boil wash on the machine with nothing in (product or clothing) which I think is a good thing to do. It always amazes me how it foams up anyway as there is detergent residue in the system. Also maybe relevant, but I stopped using fabric softener years ago. I do find the load size small after a top loader, particularly with what I said about the length of the washes and I don’t think you’d be able to wash a king/queen comforter in it, but I’ve got used to it! I did use a fantastic LG big capacity front loader at an air BnB in Canada which would have taken anything, but of course was bigger overall and wouldn’t fit under a counter. Hope that helps!

I have a washer and dryer, both about 2 yrs old and with wifi. The wifi is really poor. Originally it took hours to set up and now, with my new iPhone 15, the program no longer knows I have an account or any of the appliances that were in my account. I've tried setting up the connection to the washer and dryer again, both to no avail. The scan for the QR code won't scan and taking a photo it can't read the information. This is all within the Miele app on my phone. I can put in the serial numbers by hand, but then the app can't find the machines. In my opinion, having wifi on a washing machine, a dryer and a dishwasher is a huge waste of money, at least on Miele products. This should be a slam dunk and it is only a dunk. Don't buy Miele models with wifi.

When I started reading your comment my first thought was “why?” And you seem to have reached the same conclusion! I do think smart gadgets is a big trend which manufacturers are jumping on and not always knowing how best to apply it (or whether they should at all!)
@philip2180parker2 ай бұрын
The wash times on most modern washers are much too long, if you need to wash clothes for over ninety minutes they must be filthy. Most regular garments will be clean at around a sixty minute wash any longer and you are just wasting time and energy. Most dirt and stains will be removed in the very first few minutes of the wash, pre-stain removal is a must and usually gets the job done. The number of cycles is a nonsense , regular (60 min ) delicate (30-40 min ) and short (30min ) is usually sufficient. I was in the laundry trade for over 40 years and found the machine manufacturers always complicated the wash, incidentally, half the amount of powder you are putting in and never use conditioner it doesn't do the machine any good.
@CandidClara2 ай бұрын
Thank you for confirming everything I believe! I haven’t used fabric conditioner for years and you only have to run an empty wash to see how much excess detergent is still in the system to know you can cut down on it. Really interesting comment, much appreciated

If you have a w1 twindos , i just found out how to turn it off: Turn off the washer. Turn it to any wash cycle. Hold the touchscreen up and down arrows at the same time. A manu screen should pop up. Arrow to the sound option. Arrow to “00” option. Then click start/stop button . Then up and down arrows again to exit menu , then start and stop option once more. Turn off. Why miele doesn’t have the standard “beep for 15 seconds then stop” at end of cycle , i will never know!

I bought a model that looks just like this model but straight away there was a problem that I didn't have with my previous non Miele machine. Everything feels hard, like there is a powder residue, especially the towels. I have tried diffferent powders, different amounts, different sized loads, different programmes, several rinses. The manual advises against using liquid detergent. The drum has a small amount of drainage holes in it compared with my previous machine. Another annoying thing is the loud continual beep when the wash has finished. As I have had the machine over 30 days, I doubt I will be able to return it and it cost over £700. Edit, I live in a soft water area.

It showed the F10 error code with the red sink, which meant that the cold water plug was dirty. But so far its still holding. Now when I'm typing our washer had just finished the cycle and it's normal. Every evening dad checks the price for electricity, and then mom sets up timer and let's it wash at night. I bet it could be useful for you if you're thinking of a way how to save energy.

This has been reviewed comparing it to a budget washing machine around £300 & turns out there's absolutely no difference in performance. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4uZgpZuoNWJsJI Buying a premium washing machine is a sign of snobbery in my view. I've a Candy 9kg washing machine thats A rating & still going strong now for 9 years & it cost me £280. But I've a snob of an ex wife who bought a Samsung £900 one & after 5 years she needed to buy another one. So for me, buying premium products that are no better than the budget range ones is just snobbery, look at me I can afford these. Sure they might look nice, but do you want a picture or something that cleans your cloths with minimum cost. And don't forget, the performance of the washing machine depends on the type of stains, the type of washing powder/liquid you use & so on.
@CandidClara9 ай бұрын
Interesting, though that is a different machine to this one. Of course no one buys a Miele for performance, they buy it for longevity, so I’m not sure quite what the point of that review is.
@VsUK9 ай бұрын
@@CandidClara Well it was more of a reference. I've been repairing washing & dryers for many years & one thing I've learnt, is the more expensive the machines are, the more complicated they get & the more chances of something going wrong & when it does, it's not cheap to fix. The cheaper washing machines do just a good of a job as the expensive ones, as drums turn to mix the washing powder, liquid & the cloths rub together & clean themselves in the soap & then empty, rinse, empty rinse done. The only benefit to increase washing performance is adding the rubber washing balls to help so it's not completely reliant on the clothing to rub together. But yes, the more expensive ones do tend to last a little longer, but you could buy 3 standard models for the price of 1 premium model & I'd stake my whole career on this. No premium washing machine will last longer than 2 standard washing machines being used back to back when 1 fails.
