The International Barley Hub is pleased to announce the next in the 2024 series of seminars: 'Barley vs abiotic stresses and an investigation of HvGrf4' Presented by Alessandro Tondelli (Research Director, CREA) & Alice Branchi (PhD Student, University of Catania, CREA)
Speaker Bio
Alessandro Tondelli
Holds a PhD from the University of Milan and is Research Director at CREA-Genomics and Bioinformatics in Fiorenzuola d’Arda, Italy. Always passionate about barley, his work is mainly dedicated to the genetic dissection of quantitative traits, with particular attention to different aspects of plant adaptation to the environment, such as tolerance to abiotic stresses, regulation of plant phenology and yield adaptation. He manages Public-Private Partnerships to develop advanced barley cultivars for Italy and other South European countries.
Alice Branchi
Is a second-year PhD student from the University of Catania and CREA-Genomics and Bioinformatics in Fiorenzuola d’Arda, Italy. During her Master’s Degree Internship, she studied a gene family related to yield and lignification in barley and developed a strong passion for crop genetics and functional genomics. Her PhD project focuses on the characterization of a member of the GRF gene family in barley.
Summary
Barley vs abiotic stresses deals with the exploitation of natural genetic variation for elucidating barley response to different environmental challenges. The investigation of the Grf4 Gene deals with the functional characterization of a GRF gene with possible involvement in controlling yield components in barley.
