Re watched this today. I dont care what anyone says. Shabani is the best father, leader, companion, and teacher to his siblings. He might be annoying at times (lol), and probably gets on Nene'and Ai's nerves when he provokes them, but he keeps his family going. There is life in this gorilla troop. They all have such unique personalities and are special is their own way. 🤎🦍

I think Nene may be his favorite and that's why he's always 'picking' on her. Kind of like a school boy whose sweet on a girl and does it just to get attention. Anyway, I love this family, definitely my favorite to watch videos of.Thanks for sharing them!

Right around 11:59 in the video he realized that she hurt her foot when she jumped. So he stopped to check her out. You can see him pause and look at her feet. Once he determined she was fine he continued with the game. But this this time he just gave her a gentle shove. They ran around a bit more and the game ended. She sat down to nurse her foot and he sat down to pout. 😁

Yes, he stopped to check her foot at 12:04…very tender … then it’s chase me, chase me all over again. Nene’s his 1st wife, and the matriarch of the troop, getting up there, and probably wood prefer to sit in the sun. But it strikes what good exercise, esp. for an older gorilla like Nene.

Oh goodness...Shabani you're so naughty. Shabani's playing stalker tag here with everybody, mainly Nene. He loves her, but he also knows how to push her buttons. He loves to provoke her by walking up to her, staring her down then smacks her with a "love tap" then run...😂. I mean there is about a 25 or so year age difference between husband and wife, so Nene is quite a bit older & not interested in play time. Shabani just took the game of "stalker tag you're it" a bit too far, but we all know he's a gorilla stuck in a boy's body.😂 The kids are like, "what the heck is going on?"

Barbara Bucy , I agree. He's just a grown up Lope (Twicross). She chases him telling him off the whole time. It doesn't look like a Silverback issuing threats or punishment and she's not offering submission.

I believe he is teasing his oldest wife to chase him. But only the gorillas and hopefully the caretakers know. They are with them all the time, whereas we only see snippets of drama or love.

It seems to me he’s bored with no other males large enough to challenge him for dominance he never gets the chance to let out his natural testosterone energy. Silverback males have an AMAZING ability to control their own strength and they learn this at a very young age. In their NATURAL environment there are normally two or three blackback males that interact with the Silverback along with carrying out their other duties in the family as guardians whenever the family moves around, Silverback leads while they take up the rear to make sure no unwanted guests are following or going to disturb all of them.

At 9:44 Nene is chasing him and Shabani puts out his left hand and turns it palm up, kind of signaling that it's a time out and Nene can relax a minute and nurse her wound. You see Shabani looking down towards her foot and then sort of walks her to the steps and protects her. So cool. It's interesting to change speeds on the action and you will catch little things like by speeding it up we can see the eye movements in a more "human" speed and then slowing it down the action is amazing, the way that Annie is always making sure that dad doesn't hurt her boyfriend Kiyo. Plus, we get to see that a lot of Shabani's "attacks" on Nene are nothing more than a pinch and hair pull with an occasional smack.

This is d disturbing to watch. Nene and Kiyomasa seem terrified of Shabani and even Ai doesn't seem relaxed or comfortable. I'm not an expert on gorillas so I don't really understand what is happening here, but Shabani really seems to be picking on Nene - he is really aggressive with her. At the end it appeared she had an injury to her food. It's worrying. I thought silverbacks protected their family. He seems intent on hurting her. It does not seem like play.

the space is to small. in the wild when silverback is upset the others normaly move away further than they can here .. to the silverback it seems they are not talking orders so he will punish them just like he would do in the wild

From what I've heard, it is because Shabani knows Nene is more likely to chase him if he teases her. Ai generally refuses to chase Shabani, though she has done it on a few occasions. Nene is more easily angered. Shabani also appears to do this same chase thing with the kids, but he is more gentle with them than he is with the adults.
