At least Yaesu remembers the everyday ham. Very few will be able to come up with that kind of dough for a rig like the one Icom is releasing... why didn't they do an anniversary edition of the 7300 like a 7300Pro or something like that!?! Or an upgraded IC-7000 ? Something an everyday ham can afford? Its a shame. Myself, I just bought a new Yaesu FT-710 field -what a FANTASTIC rig for the money 73

@jonniez62 what's so funny ? Just stating the facts for us working stiffs with families that happen to be long time hams that don't happen to have money to blow on new equipment. What say you? If you've got that kind of dough then good on you. Laugh at your own kind ,Regardless 73

Every manufacturer has a baseline and flagship rig. What in the world is an everyday ham? Personally I find shack in a box radios fun but a compromise. Single purpose HF only radios tend to perform better.
@l.a.26464 ай бұрын
@Kibwunga an everyday ham is an amateur radio operator that uses their gear on a everyday basis, lots of these big radios are usually bought by a contest club or an individual with an expendable income... that's fine but what my argument is a ham or a family of hams ( like my family) cannot justify that purchase of a radio like that - for everyday use. My beef with Icom is, they disregarding their bread and butter. The everyday hams. The 7300 is a great rig ,but it's almost 10 years old. Why not make an anniversary 7300 or an ic-7300 pro. Something along those lines. And sure, a shack in the box is compromised but they sell like crazy. I'm saying that Yaesu has their fingers on the pulse. They aren't Disassociating the everyday hams and they are building affordable equipment with new designs and tech. I'm a huge Icom fan, I also own Kenwood HF radios, but they've done the same thing. Their baseline radio is fantastic but it's old. Maybe that's what they want to do? Companies like Xiegu will quickly fill that void. Not that thats a bad thing. But in my humble opinion Most of their sales come from people with families who want a good, quality radio that normal people can afford to buy and able to use it at home or in the field.

@@l.a.2646 I just bought a 7300. And I have a Yaesu FTDX10. I loved the 710 an was going to get it, but know why the 7300 is superior for my uses? Much lower receive current. Better than the 991A, better than the 710. I already have dX10, which is even better than the 710. For a field rig, the 7300 will last better on emergency power, and the enhanced performance of the 710 won't ever be realized. It's a lab measure at this point. There's really no advantage to a refresh. The 7300 is a very good rig. I also have a 705. And am selling it. Because QRP shack in a box isn't the same as 100W shack in the box. It's good to have choices but because Icom changed their flagship doesn't mean they abandoned the every ham. Rob Sherwood took the 7300 into a contest and it did fine. We are at a point that any good operator with any radio in the top 20 of Sherwood is going to go fine. Look at the 30 year old Yaesu FT-1000D. It has horrible dynamic range and was super expensive, and I personally am friend with the person who rode the top of the DXCC list with that radio. What do you want to do that cannot be done with any Icom rig? BTW, I totally prefer the Yaesu implementation but not to the point where I don't think the Icom is awesome. The 7300 is in there because it's awesome and has made Icom a LOT of money.

The major three, in my opinion, are lacking something. Rather than flagship radios, which are hardly affordable, they should be attempting to reduce costs, focusing on quality, outfitting their entry-level radios with superior base options, economical supporting accessories, and creating a path to mid-level models. The higher their prices rise, the more attractive it is for rivals to appear and begin stealing market share from them. Shares on the will be a Baofeng 100watt HF shack radio.

My icom 705 connected to a sailor marine amplifier costs $1400 only. Gives 250 watts from 3 or 4 watts drive. I will keep it as it is, no need of a fancy 7760😂

🤪£5,700 🤣🤣 Jazus - tis worse tis gettin. Lovely looking rig though. I'm still running my IC-7200 and NO plans to change it. Having great fun with my Xiegu G90 mobile. Give it a year or so, maybe less even, and there could be another new rig to replace the IC-7760 6 FTX-1F and at a more or less affordable price for the already stretched Ham.

I think the price of some of these radios is like the price of wine: Is a £30 bottle three times better than a £10 bottle ? Probably. Is a £100 bottle ten times better? Probably not.
