My grandma taught all of us kids how to make ice cream with the old churn. How old you ask, well grandma was born in 1896 and it was 1968 about then...so l figured the churn came out about the same time as rolled crapping paper. The old churn was a chore and it always made our favorite flavor, pain in the...now back to Arizona Ghost Riders.

Thanks for another great video. As a young boy, I remember the ice wagon deliver the block of ice to the house and put it in the ice box. He always had a small block he would chip off of for us kids.

Santee, believe it or not - even though I have known this video for years now I still love to watch it when eating ice cream in summer at home.... I almost know it by heart and it still makes me laugh every time you mention the president's inauguration and the Sound he makes when his wife serves the ice cream 😂😂 Great video, my favorite one! John Townsend here on KZbin made an ice cream recipe that was very common in the 18th Century, the main ingredient was Parmesan cheese, Yep, once the ice cream was completely finished, it had a very creamy smooth texture and taste much like a vanilla ice cream. Who woulda think that and actual cheese would taste good in a ice cream especially Parmesan cheese.🤔🤣

Greetings from Ireland. That's pretty amazing, I didn't think they could keep ice frozen very long but I guess if you have a lot of it together in an insulated room it wouldn't melt too quick. I'm one of those folks that make their own ice cream and have the belly to prove it.

The City of York in North Yorkshire still has its ice house which dates back to the early 19th century, but it's no longer used. And where I live is just a short walk from Ice House Road, thought the ice house associated with it is now long gone.

Vsited York when I was a lad. My father accidentally hit an old man riding a bicycle in our rental car. We were going so slow, we just tipped him over. Boy was he mad and yelling at us. Dad gave him 20 pounds and he happily walked off. Beautiful medieval city.

In my family's country house we still have one of the old refrigerators that ran on block ice (of course we don't use it anymore because the last ones that did deliver Ice went out of bussines in the 60s/70s).

Ice houses have actually been around. A lot longer than the 19th century. I believe both Thomas Jefferson and George, Washington have them at Monticello and Mount Vernon, respectively

cream plus ice plus rock salt plus a churn plus a lot of elbow grease equals ice cream…the hardest part is getting the elbow grease 🤣 the churns are just like modern ones: a tub within another tub, the inner tub had the crank churn that agitated the cream and outer one had the salt and ice.

I don't eat ice cream here in Ohio in the winter. It can get to -10, and I'll be chilled for hours if I do, but in the summer when the temps are in the 90s, --- OH, YEAH!!!... [Ohio can have real extremes of temps, although I KNOW there are plenty of places in the world where temps only vary about 20 degrees all year.]

Arizona Ghostriders Not that Wikipedia is perfect, but they have sources on this one and they claim the origin is contested, so who knows. I'm a christian and I can't think of any reason they'd go that far, even back then, unless they were Puritans or something. I understand they had lots of narcotics available, but since soda was sold as a "cure all" people started to think it should be regulated. Thats one side of the arguement anyway.
