We live in a beautiful age to have all this knowledge available at the tips of my fingers... ! Thanks for sharing man !

Pretty funny, while you were reeling in that last fish at 7:30 your other rod was dancing up and down.

Looks like a fun experiment. It shows both baits work but you'd new a much greater sampling to say which is better. Of course you were the winner since you got to go fishing! Stay safe.

Great comparison and video dude I had maggots with me for the perch but never even tried them for the trout. I used the worms but after seeing this I should if tried the maggots lol now subscribed too

can we get a bracket with shrimp vs maggots? This had great potential for a tournament :D

You might try using a ''smsller shank'' hook as if you watch they chomp the bait, and sometimes spit it out. I find the fish at Diomand Lake do thet also. I now look down into the hole with my head and hole covered and watch them suck offering into their mouth and spit it out, so when they suck it in I set the hook.

How far above do you put the split shot above the hook?

Without even watching, Crawlers are best for Rainbows in my experience. That being said, every fishery is different and I have also caught a whole lot of trout on maggots as well as minnow heads and perch eyes. They will eat store bought shrimp as well. I always take both Maggots and Crawlers when I go fishing. My lake has 3-5lb rainbows everywhere but I also commonly catch jumbo perch and a few walleyes in the same holes and so I always take a variety of baits. I've almost always got a Buckshot Rattle spoon tied in tipped with Crawler or perch eye/minnow head. All 3 species will eat that almost any day. When I have to downsize for a slower bite, I whip out the maggots for some small tungsten presentations. Moral of the story is always be prepared for anything to happen. You will simply catch more fish if you have more baits and more tactics at your disposal. Even if you don't like a certain bait or lure, practice with it anyway and try to build some confidence as you may have to resort to those tactics later when it counts.

Hard to find maggots on the west side, so usually its worms. Lets see real vs artificial maggots (Berkley) next!

I’d be really interested to see that too. Tho I’d definitely cast my bets with the real bait.

Would have to say the live maggots would win but would still make a great video

7:25 your other line had fish on too. The worms could have come back and won if you kept going.

It's hard for a trout to turn down a live bug. Fishing for whitefish in the Yakima river one year I caught nothing but trout on my bright green nymph fly tipped with a maggot. They couldn't leave it alone. The year before nothing but whitefish then the next year nothing but trout (which had to be released). Maggot is a favorite of mine.

Like many experiments what you learn can be different than what you set out to learn. On this one I think that I learned more the success rate of jigging compared to deadstick. I KNOW you would have caught more with some action going on.

I was just wondering what kind of hooks were u using?
@TwoStageTrigger4 жыл бұрын
Try speed hooks. They're a survival snare from old military survival kits. Theyre like a jaw jacker you tie onto your line. Perfect for dead sticks.

In the winter I use seal fat, if you run out of bait, trout will eat trout, a small piece of even a fin is all you really need

I would guess they would go for what they see (first) as food. So it would seem a roll of the dice.

Reviewing the underwater video from this trial and the trial I've done with Powerbait they definitely show a preference.
