Does anybody realize that the most unrealistic part in this entire scene is the fact that her mother changed her mind and decided she wanted to see her daughter skate while she was teaching her class, so she left and had to drive 200 miles to be there to see Casey skate all within just a few minutes.

Wasn't she looking into becoming an engineer or something? She can skate for the first few years of her young adult life, then go back to school and get a career in engineering. I know college isn't cheap, but there are so many scholarships for female engineers. I dunno.

guys, you need to chill. so what if you're a professional skater or what not, we're all just here to enjoy the movie. No one really cares whether if you're a skater and your opinion on her skating. FYI, if you did some research about the filming of the movie, they did hire doubles to do the harder skating scenes for Michelle Trachtenberg. So not all the skating shown was by her. So unless you do skating for a living and have been in the Olympics, just keep your 'professional' opinions to yourself and watch the scene that they uploaded please.

Dude no one is saying this is a terrible movie or hates it for not being completely realistic. In fact this used to be one of my favorite movies when I was a child, it’s just laughable at how you realize now how inaccurate it is to actual figure skating competition and training even by 2005 standards. You don’t have to have been to the olympics to notice that.

Yeah, because falling once (and flapping on the ice for like a full twenty seconds IIRC) and then hitting two more jumps at Sectionals is equivalent to Midori Ito falling once and then throwing in a triple axel mid program at the 1992 Olympics. I can suspend a lot of disbelief for this movie (and any legit figure skating fan has to suspend a LOT of disbelief here) but that line just makes me barf.

Since even the highest level skaters sometimes fall and they get up immediately. And it's not considered a "disaster" if it's one fall (sure it can cost you victory, but no commentator would call it disaster unless the rest of the program is a mess... especially at a low level competition, where it's likely falls all around).

I love it too! I'm almost 30 now. I remember movie surfers did a interview with some of the cast before the movie played for the first time. I wonder why they don't do that now, like whenever a Disney movie in theaters or a Disney Channel movie came out they would do an interview. It was so fun to watch and got you hyped up for the movie! So I remember in the interview they asked her if she ever skated before and she told them, it was her first time being on skates and ice skating. They had to train her how to skate and a Olympic iceskater taught her how to do the jumps for the movie.
