As well as the Turtle Wax product performed in this test, I was mightily impressed with how little of the Maguire’s you used - just a couple of light squirts as compared to several more for the TW - and it still held up well, considering.

Had my classic Cadillac conv. painted with Imron paint. It's a one step paint with the polyurethane mixed right with the paint so it's a one step paint, no clear coat needed and I never have to wax it. It's the type of paint they use on planes and heavy equipment so it's a hard paint and doesn't scratch very easily. I never regretted using this paint and will use it again. Comes in almost every color or can be mixed to your specific color.

Thank you, Jimbo, I am a fan - another great "raw" comparison vid. Thanks for all the effort you put in. I'm lucky because I have multiple low-value cars to test stuff on, and since I'm new (two months ago I'd never done more than bucket wash a car) I've been able to make some mistakes and try different things. The first product I bought because of a video I happened to watch was the Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax and put it on my 30 year old Town Car and, though I used too much and it streaked, it immediately made the car look way better (even with the streaks) and it felt slick for the first time since I've owned it, and put up an obvious barrier to the elements that I could see working - we had a lot of ash from forest fires this year in August and the way the ash laid on the car was just different than it was before the HCW, and the way I could easily blow the ash off with the leaf blower or rinse it with the hose was just noticeably different. That application was mid-August (it's now mid-October for anyone reading this), I've done nothing but bucket wash the car since, that car is a daily driver for me, I don't have a garage so it sits outside 24/7, and the HCW doesn't look diminished at all (even the streaks are still there). So, I don't know about chemical resistance, but real world day-to-day, Eugene, Oregon weather, it's solid and not only hanging on, but doesn't look diminished at all. Soon after I also put it on my wife's Prius (again, before I knew about decontamination) and, though I avoided streaks that time, I put it over some spots on the car (I know, rookie mistake) and the HCW made it impossible for me to clean them because of the barrier it put up. I'd watched so many of these videos that I figured I'd try iron remover and bug spray, and that removed the HCW so I could clean the dirt spots. I then applied the HCW, and then waited a week and applied another coat. So that was like early September and it still looks great and washes easy. Through trial and error, I find that the best way to apply it is to do the decontamination, dry the car completely, then use a moist towel to barely wet the panel, then really only one spray per panel, two for the bigger panels, is enough - so even though it's twice the price of the Turtle Wax, it seems like we can use a lot less of it. I figure I'll use the same method to touch up the Prius every two months and it should always be in a good place. I'm a total rookie, I don't really know what I'm doing, but that is my experience for what it's worth

I bought the Megs and it worked great for me. I haven't tried the Turtle Wax one yet. It all depends on how well you keep your car clean. On the Megs, you only need to just spray and rinse on a regular basis. It's not a permanent solution. It doesn't say how long it will last either. Any product that you used on a regular basis will protect your paint. It also depends on where you live, the outside environment such as extremely dusty areas, climate, such as extreme sun, and where you park at home outside or in a garage.

I have a dark blue metallic paint with Quartz CQ applied over a year ago. Bought the Meguiar's, as a top coat to freshen up the shine. I did both the Meguiars recommended applications on my hood. What a mess. Streaking, blotching and alot of elbow grease to get Meguiar's rubbed out to get back to my original CQ shine. Took back the Meguiars and got the Turtle ICE. Wow what a difference. Spray on, wipe in, buff out and a new deeper shine is now on my car. If you already have a quartz coating, test a small area with Meguairs first. It may save you an elbow or two.

I'm by far no professional when it comes to vehicle detailing but I literally have a whole steel cabinet FULL of every type of wax and snake oil available in the last 12 years and I gotta tell ya, my go to wax and quick detailer is Turtle Wax Ice... I have found though that turtle wax ice seems to react wiith simoniz waterless wash & wax (it seems to gum up) so I only use the simoniz on my motorcycle and it is incredible as I even simoniz my engine on the bike and the product keeps the engine looking incredible after days of it cooking on the engine.... but at the end of the day my 4 wheeler vehicles gets the ICE treatment because it seems to last and is almost fool proof to apply... I've used the meguiars ceramic and I'm not impressed for the price and after driving for hours in heavy driving rain, the meguiars seems to be all but gone when I wash my vehicle whereas the ICE still sheets and beads... just my 2 cents worth of real life findings...

I put two coats of ICE on the top of a van and after 3-4 weeks of 80-90 degree weather it still beads water like crazy. I usually see it start to fade on the top side after 4-6 weeks and reapply after a wash because it only takes a few minutes while drying the car. I used Turtle Wax ICE products since the beginning cuz they were easy on/off, they worked, and very worked well, but after having my Camaro ceramic coated I've been using TEC582 Ceramic Quick Detailer. It works GREAT and smells like bubblegum instead of chemicals. On my truck and wife's Jeep, I have switched from TW ICE to Maguire's Hybrid Ceramic Wax. Once applied, I then finish them both off with TEC582. The paint on all 3 vehicles is slicker than greased eel s**t and water practically jumps off the paint. All TW ICE products and Maguire's Hybrid Ceramic Wax work GREAT! You can't lose either way. However, I recommend finishing off your vehicle with TEC582 Ceramic Quick Detailer no matter what product you choose.

Megs HCW is NOT water activated. In their 40 minute interview with Mat from OG on YT, they say the water is used to spread the product and to help prevent streaking.... Gravity...dent the right side like the left side and watch the water roll off....you need a new panel Jimbo. I know water is precious in CA but you cant wash residue off with a quick spritz. I'd like to see some long term studies where you leave a panel outside with the product on it for a couple weeks, then test it. Another Turtle Wax product nobody talks about is 'Wax as you Dry'. I suspect this was one of the first attempts at the ice formula. The TW 'wax as you dry' beads water for more than 4 weeks with my 100 mile commute roundtrip... It also smells good and makes the color "pop" more in my opinion. You should try it.

Pretty impressive that little did that much. They do say use it sparingly but I think (from experience) that's because they are trying to prevent any streaking. The spray and rinse method works best in my experience if you do it out of sunlight, do 1 panel at a time, using it sparingly and a pressure washer and rinse top down - especially when dealing with dark colors with no existing protection.

Thanks for the comparison..but if I can maybe give some constructive advice IMHO Shine and gloss is why I buy a wax or similar but you seemed to have missed that whole conversation and focused on a hose and beading? Not singling you out but a lot of reviewers now seem to now miss the forest for the trees. Buy a glossmeter and draw the comparison on those readings from start to finish over the torture test which to me is more beneficial than a bead shape. With respect!

I will say you covered the Turtle Wax side with product and used two little pumps on the Mequiars side. From a just volume of product usage standpoint, the Meguiars did seem better. Plus, factor in time. Turtle Wax, you dry, apply, dry. Mequiars, you wet (if need be), apply, dry. I have Turtle Wax on my car and Meguairs on the wife's car. Both look great but Meguiars saved me time.

Curious to know if curing time helps with either, whether the bottle says so or not. But like you said, they must have done tests and if curing time helps enough they should have put that on the bottle.

I used this Ice Wax on my brand new car and was disappointed...after 4 wahes it was gone even though I topped it off with other products. The car was always kept in a garage. Recently I use Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic Spray and i am completely satisfied with the product. It beads water like crazy and the shine is phenomenal! It even beats the more expensive Chemical Guys Jet Seal.

Glad someone else is in agreement with me . Even tried it on my wife's newer car and it still didn't hold up very long. To be honest , applying the product isnt so fast either . I can wax my car in a little bit more time than applying HCW and it lasts longer with a carnuba wax ...

I've been using the Turtle Wax Spray since it came out. I wash my vehicles and dry. Next step I spray wax with a microfiber everything except the windshield. My cars have no spots and shed water great. I tried the ceramic wax and I'm on the fence with the product. Time will tell with me.

Very interesting demonstration, however I wish you had put the panel at an angle so we could get a true look at it after each applications because of the position of the panel as you have it, you really get a glare of the sky which is quite deceiving so it'a hard to tell which product is better than the other.

Nice test, nothing too crazy but a good comparison with the use of torcher products like degreasers and harsh soaps. I use to be a car detailer back in the day. Short lived only about 4 years. But for some reason it stuck in my head that hot water (what some use to wash a vehicle with) destroys wax. Be interesting to see this test done on wax products what hot water does to either one. Otherwise great test.. haters hate bud. Drown them out with the compliments..

TW wins! Can you please make a head-to-head video of TW ICE SPRAY WAX vs TW SEAL & SHINE vs CMX?
@psa110
@psa110 4 жыл бұрын
The TW seemed to "last" longer. Maybe did not appear as good at first but after several times not as well in performance. You need to create your own torture materials like Brian at Apex recently started to do. He tries to create more real-life conditions by using things like motor oil, ATF fluid, antifreeze & more You know, the stuff that is actually on the road and comes up in the mist when it is wet.

In search of the best shine I bought in to the McGuire's hybrid wax to use on my black sports car. I have used and liked almost every McGuire's product except this one. After the first application (wet rub in) I was very impressed with the shine. However, after further curing of the product I noticed streaking in the shine which required a lot of rubbing to remove. (The vehicle was fully cleaned of contaminants before application). Three days later after normal Midwest night time dew I observed water spotting rings and water trail marks where the water had run off the car..but left something behind. A rinse of the car showed absolutely no water beading as if there was never a product applied. After several applications I must say that I am not happy with this product and think it was a waste of money. I am going back to their ultimate shine product, the hybrid ceramic didn't work for me. Next time I am at the auto shop I will pick up some Ice Spray and try it out. Wax on your car should last longer than one weekend.

I realize the ICE and Adam's spray ceramic are a different category, BUT the ICE is easier to apply, and NOT as technical...so IF ICE gives the Adam's a run for the money....that would be enough for me just to use ICE
