Never really been into Icee from the couple battles that I saw but this one he was definitely in the zone and I liked the rounds a lot, I'll have to check out more of his vids some day. I definitely agree that his approach to the music just worked better, and the variations in the rhythm, timing and smooth footwork was greatness as well as the balance/control he displayed throughout his transitions.... Think Paradox did well too, he is one of my favorite artists but I can admit that when it comes to the more hard beats/songs I typically don't find his approach to fit them in a way that makes him look at the top of his game [example to me is the Rochka battle as well as this one] . I think he really "gets in his bag" with songs that compliment a more fluid waving threading style, songs that force him to take his time.

Icee is not the most exciting dancer to watch, but you can't deny his skill/technique. Which is why he's always in the finals every competition😂

Agreed! Maika is really good the whole SDF last year but you can really see in her battle against Icee the gap in experience.

This battle needs some context : Icee forfeited in the 3rd battle against Paradox because he was tired and declared Paradox winner, then Paradox battled Franky Dee as judge. He exchanged three rounds plus another one because despite Franky's admission to losing, he wanted another round for the honor of exchange with Paradox. Flashforward to this : Icee had a good deal of time to rest and didn't have to do 4 rounds, and he was chosen honorably by Kevin to battle in the semis. So while Icee was incredible and consistent, he could beter enter that pocket because he hasn't exhausted himself prior with 4 rounds beforehand. Exhaustion can mess with your concentration and ability to get in that pocket. I experience that all the time in my labbing sessions. Of course we could introduce a counter example with the case of Alex in 2019, since he had good stamina and thus he could remain consistently effective in his rounds. It really varies between dancers, for Waydi on the other hand his stamina needed some work in 2018. For clarification, I'm not contesting the results, just want to add some needed context to weigh in. Just for the observation though, but Gonzy compared to Icee took this exchange more honorably and admitted his loss, Icee on the other hand saw it more as a competition than an honorable exchange, and sighted while saying "Yo in terms of freestyle I won !" If you ever have the chance though to watch Kefton vs Icee in the finals, it's the same backstory. Even if Kefton's stamina is on par with Alex's, a 4 round difference with Icee is something to take into account (he did 17, the biggest number of rounds in this event) . Kefton held his ground better then Paradox did imo, so if you ever have the chance to watch the final, keep that in mind !

Solid observation, but I would say after watching icee summer dance rounds from 2014 you'd notice Icee can still deal high level stuff and get in the pocket even after battling for so long, people keep forgetting how he went through prelims, and fought all the way to the finals in 2015 and still took out everyone, also he had extra rounds from his judge battles up till the finals. conclusion Icee is just that good. Even against a well rested kato and majid in 2015 he looked unstoppable.

Oh for 2014 and 2015 I got nothing to say, he was delivering good. I'm just more critical in 2016-2017-2018 cause he had considerable round advantage compared to his opponents (being judge in the two latter years specially) and didn't look like he cared about it.

This was the first time I've been impressed with Icee's dancing ability, and finally saw why some think he is one of the best. All of the other battles I've seen so far, it didn't look like he gave much effort, but tried to coast on his name and status in the community. Respect this time. Shoutout to Para and his humility. Now, that set Icee had against Waydi? He lost that, and Icee didn't want to relent (even though the crowd said he won).

I just wanna say ONE thing then I'm done. EVERY Summer Dance Forever, the DJ plays old school music for every single damn Icee battle and it's starting to bother me. Like they tend to play music that fits Icee's whole style whenever he battles and that bothers me sometimes.
