To be fair to blane, i've got a few dodgy icelandic black records and i cant even begin to pronounce them badly. I looked at the liner for the recent wormlust/skáphe single and gave up. Anyway, greetings from the UK!

Icelandic metal is the most underrated scene in the world, some of the best black metal bands of this decade are from Iceland. Also my shoutouts of other great Icelandic metal bands are Allir vegir til glötunar by Naðra which is the other band that D.G. from Misþyrming is a part of, fantastic raw and melodic black metal album that also incorporates some folk aspects and Vitrun by Carpe Noctem which is some of the best combination of pure black metal with some fantastic prog elements,

Yes, thank you Banger/Blayne for reviewing some of my favorite albums of one of my favorite bm scenes!! Listening to Audn while driving through the Icelandic landscape will forever remain one of my most profound experiences in life! Also, Carpe Noctem is releasing a new album on Friday (Vitrun), so if you like what you heard here, go check it out!!

I was waiting to see if Zhrine showed up on the list, and sure enough there was Unortheta! I bought it last year at my then-local record shop on a recommendation from an employee and it was a pretty unsettlingly dissonant album. I haven't listened to it a ton but it's definitely overdue for another spin. I'm glad you shouted out the album art too, because damn is it cool. Fantastic video, guys! So excited for future installments!

I've been saying this for a couple years now: Iceland should absolutely be considered the Third Wave of black metal. Also Blayne, thank you for mentioning Sinmara's Aphotic Womb -- that record is savage and harrowing and staggeringly well-executed. Anyone not familiar with it, do yourself a favor.
@ivarmarkusson3826 жыл бұрын
there has been a strong underground metal movement here for something like two decades, few years back it was like it was reaching up on the surface, but then it went underground again for most parts. apart from skalmold witch seem to find there way in to everyones grandmothers playlist
@metalmaster336 жыл бұрын
Thanks Blayne, and thanks Banger... this was just awesome, and those are some really good picks. My favorite is also Bálsýn by Potentiam. It comes closest to the Burzum atmosphere that I adore so much. Also an album I love is the first black metal album released in Iceland back in 1987, called Fire and Steel, by the most mystical band Flames of Hell... It's maybe not very traditional black metal, but I don't know where else to put it... you should check it out..Thanks again and a Patron cheers from Iceland!!

Great video, and thanks for the disclaimer that this wasn't a comprehensive list. I feel like a scene in desperate need of covering is the Czech black metal scene. Their take on the genre was very unique and it co-incided with the Norwegian scene, yet got little attention. Bands like Master's Hammer, Root, Törr, Tudor and Maniac Butcher were putting out weird but amazing albums in the early to late 90s. A lot of their black metal sounds like Mercyful Fate meets Bathory, which is a very interesting tangent on the genre. I really hope to see this scene in a future episode. Cheers!
