This really resonated with me; it’s a tough thing to swallow that when we are guided to do things, they do not always turn out the way we had hoped, but it didn’t mean it was the wrong step. If you’ve learned something and grown in wisdom, as you said, that is really a more attainable goal than shooting for a great outcome. You win some, you lose some, but that’s the cost of admission to play the game. It makes me think of planning for a wonderful trip, feeling like you know this is what you need deep down, letting your intuition guide you…and it’s a complete disaster. But from that disaster comes wisdom, and even more so perhaps, happy accidents, or better trips in the future. It makes me think of the story I’ve read in some of my I Ching readings about the story of a farmer, who experiences a bad thing that resulted in a good thing that resulted in a bad thing that resulted in a good thing, and so on. The phrase used was, “Who knows what is good and what is bad?” One tiny element of a bad experience from the past can open up a whole world of good experiences, and vice versa-but we can’t only be living life to win, we have to live life to play and discover and learn and grow, and see how the individual pieces, “good” or “bad” work together, eternally, perhaps. Thank you so much for this beautiful share and wise words! I think sometimes we follow our gut into something but what we are really following is a path of (sometimes painful) growth which we would typically avoid to avoid that pain. But follow we must! 😊
