Active recollection might be termed "mindfulness?" Actively working to keep the mind focused and obedient, if you like. Hesychastic perhaps. Passive recollection I might call "infused recollection." Where no real effort is required to "be present and aware" of our being-ness before/within God. The first being a necessary habit to acquire for growth/development toward passive prayer/contemplation. The second being gift. A simple, effortless and distraction-less way of being which would require an exercise of our will to break from. Thank you for this enlightened talk. Pax

So grateful for this. I am scared to start the contemplative prayer. I wanted to stick to my routine. I had to humble myself and say …do as You will with me. Thank you for the encouragement!

At the end--There is no conflict between the rosary and contemplation--it can lead to contemplation. The Blessed Virgin Mary in many apparitions has asked us to pray the rosary; this must be God's Will and does not interfere with our spiritual progress but enhances it.

This is wonderful. How do you find someone to talk to about these ideas and can talk about it? There is no one to talk to about this kind of reading. How do you grow in a relationship with God when you have many questions without someone to ask? Please do not suggest talking to a priest bc they say they do not have time. It all sounds good, but it’s not possible to grow in a vacuum.

Great question Linda. I suggest looking into if there is a secular Carmelite community in your area: www.ocdswashprov.org

There are lay carmelite communities both O.Carmelite and Discalced communities. Look for them on line in your area

I was received into a Lay Carmelite Community in December. You will grow a lot and have a lot of support while discerning if its what God wants for you.

I would say if you are really interested. The Secular order of Discalced Carmelites will help you decide if you have a vocation to the Discalced Carmelite Secular Order. They are men and woman who follow all the rules and regulation of the Discalced Carmelite Order and live at home with their families and meet once a month. We are an integral part of the Discalced Carmelite Order. During their meetings they Have mass following by a meeting in which you the assigned readings of St. Teresa of Jesus (Avila), St. John of the Cross, etc. And you will be able to discuss with them and really get to understand it well. When you call them they will explain everything to you in more detail. Contact the closest OCDS group in your community and they will answer any questions you may have. They will help you decide if you do have a vocation. I hope this helps. This is a serious decision reserved for people who have been called to the Discalced Carmelite Order, as Secular Carmelites. God bless you.

Find the right priest .... I know a Benedictine Father , who has taught me so much, with jokes and wit.. Irish and amazing! He is good friends with a Franciscan monk, both of whom took confessions after 9/11 ❤😊

Thank you so much for this talk. I have this question, I have heard the advice; for example when praying the Rosary, to stop and pause with God. which I never understood till today. but I still have this question. If one sets to meditate on the 20 mysteries of the Rosary, what then happens to the rest of the meditation I would like to offer God? do I wait and do it later? I Thank you for all you do. I really like Carmelite spirituality and you guys have been a lot of help in understanding and putting it into my life

on Gifts: My teacher gave a wonderful example: Imagine that you are a baby and crying for mother's attention - mommy gives baby toys at first, if the child still cries mommy finally holds the baby - the union of god. Not to be incredulous but just let it be but always look for your beloved and not be satiated with these feelings, experiences - these are like fire of love in which we should burn.

I believe it’s a mistake to differentiate between morality and spirituality. We are inclined to hear alit of people say …” I’m spiritual but not religious “but in our Catholic tradition spirit and morality and one and the same thing . Kind regards and peace to all you God seekers .
