I did that same repair on my own bobcat years ago using a mag drill. I cut a notch in two steel plates and welded them to the end of the arms for the mag drill to sit on. I used a laser in the chuck of the mag drill for alignment using a bunch of measurements from the edge of the arm. I used a boring head for a mill with an arbor in the mag drill to bore out each side.

There is no reason to let the comments from the people watching and not doing bother you. I i,aging there are easily a half dozen good ways to weld in the sleeves. You showed the one you picked on that day based on the project, the location, the tools at hand, your schedule and your preferences and got a great result. I really appreciate you sharing your projects and your wisdom. They are beyond what I can or likely ever will do but I really enjoy the craftsmanship and learn skills I can use in other areas by seeing how you approach problems and work through the parts of the jobs that don’t go exactly the way you planned when you started.

Issac , Merry Christmas, when i worked in the lift truck industry, the company i worked for also sold skid steers, yes Bobcat, these tapered pins were the Achilles heal of Bobcat skid steers and it only took 3 or 4 years in most cases for these pins to get wallered out and we usually called in a private welder like yourself to do the work and results were a nice clean job, other companies had your standard pin without any taper and didn't have this issue🎄👍

I may need to do this to my T190, this gives me hope of figuring out a home brew way of doing it! I like the sleeve insert tube idea, then just cut them off to fit once tacked in place. Thanks, I love my machine just hate paying others to fix something for me if there is a chance of doing it myself.

Depending on how long you have the machine, it may be good to have it done once, then replace the sleeves as needed on your own at a later date.

Hey Issac, I replaced my bushings and taper pins on my 79 Bobcat 530. I used after market stuff as Bobcat wanted more than I paid for the machine!😮 I think I cut a slot in bushing using my oxy set and then pounded out the old bushings. I froze the new ones and pounded them in as well. The inside of the frame was "wallered" pretty bad so I machines it with my angle grinder and put a big ass washer on each side to fill the gap. I try to be a little better than the last guy with the greasing thing!😊

Nice work youn man. Not so sure about the "pulse technique" but it's only holding a tapered cone so I guess it will be strong enough. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family the very best for the festive season and great success in 2025!
@benz-share90583 сағат бұрын
I'm familiar with using pulsing with TIG but not with MIG. Seems that there is pulse MIG (needs a machine with the feature) and intermittent MIG (what we see Isaac doing here). I suppose this is to limit heat input and potential distortion?

I have done a number of these on New Holland skid steers for a local dealer. They apparently use the same tapered bushings but they weld right in the end of the boom arms. It’s still about a 5 to 6 hour job but way simpler than this. One thing I do is, I will put the pins (preferably the old ones, if they didn’t get destroyed removing them) into the the new bushings after getting them tacked in place while I weld them out so as not to warp the new bushings or get weld spatter in the bores. Just a suggestion.
@ICWeld6 сағат бұрын
I have not tried that method but I can see how that would work. ALthough, I didnt have the pins🤷♀️. Customer didnt leave those with me. Things to consider for next time though.👍

Isaac, you need to make sure those removable jaws on that lathe are in the right locations. Each of the removable jaws should be numbered, with a matching number on the mating jaw parts. If they are not mated correctly, you will get that kind of runout.
@TalRohan11 сағат бұрын
That plasma cutter is very reminiscent of a mini light sabre ...use the force Izaac lol and Line boring seems like a lot more complicated job than it actually is if you have a good machine for the job, and always set up to make a finishing cut, The fit was almost good enough to leave it as a hammered in fit..nicely done
