IMO, these are the most skilled farriers on KZbin...at least of the ones I've watched. Making custom horseshoes from a bar of steel is magical. If I'm ever in your neck of the woods, do you allow people to watch? It's THAT cool.

I had a horse that came to me w messed up feet from a bad farrier. He did not even want to be caught for any reason. Took a few months and a few visits w a decent farrier fixing his feet for him to calm down and not fight. Once he understood the new guy helped and his feet no longer hurt, he was good to go and liked being ridden after that. He had quite the spunk for an old man! Jubilee was a good horse.

They usually tie a lead rope to the horse to keep them still. And if they've been getting regular hoof work done, the horse gets used to it and doesnt fidgit as much as a new horse might.
@bluwinterdoe67312 жыл бұрын
Thanks for telling me that. It sure is nice having so many choices for what to watch and learn.
@platedlizard2 жыл бұрын
If the horse is being properly cared for it’s having its hooves handled/checked nearly every day and getting trimmed or shod every six to eight weeks. Sort of like if you handle your dog’s paws every day and take it to the groomer regularly it won’t have a problem having its nails trimmed
@bluwinterdoe6731 Жыл бұрын
@@platedlizard Hello, thank you for the information about the horses hoofs. I had wondered about how often their feet had to be taken care of, now I know:) My gosh, I suppose if a person had a number of horses they might tend their own, if that was an option. We never owned horses, we ran cattle on our land. Although we did have a horse that seemed to think he lived at our place, he was right at home. He used to open their large gate,16’ cross the old road and straight into our place. We didn’t mind, but we were getting concerned about his safety. I found him one day walking and grazing up the side of the road. Not much traffic at all, but then all it takes is one vehicle for an accident, or someone with a pickup to load him in. Well again thank you for giving of your time. Stay well.

I find these video incredibly important, although not having ridden for many years, I was rarely around when the farrier came--and over the years it became increasingly difficult to get a farrier for a "hot shoe". Seeing how a horses hoof, foot if you will, takes so much punishment including deformities from lack of care among other causes, this work is among the encyclopedia of hoof "mishaps", new and fascinating, to me! I only ever saw basic shoe replacement. If you care about horses you always need to be learning.

@acccardone7679 Жыл бұрын
What about those cracks? One is all the way to the coronet band in front. One on the inside has been to the coronet band often enough that the hoof is weakened all the way up (thus the wrinkling up the hoof on the inside front crack and the large chip at the bottom making the hoof need special treatment), and one is 1/2 the way up the hoof. Hiding them under acrylic isn't going to stop the cracks from climbing, becoming infected, or injuring the coronet band...
