I remember the old tannery, if memory serves me correctly it was near Webster Rd at Chermside, you could always smell it when you drove past. Great video, brings back some old memories..

I think it was where the Stafford City shopping centre is today. The legacy of the odours from the tannery kept Stafford real estate prices lower than the surrounding suburbs for many years.

@@bluescooter2262 you could be correct, I was only a kid back then and memory isn't as good as it used to be.... I think it's relocated to Narangba now? Packers Tannery?

The ingenuity of people back then. Yet the work culture of men and their smug bosses leave me cold.

Wonder how many of these factories from around 1965 are still in business making products.

Wonderful Australia back in the prosperous days of manufacturing just about everything we needed! Little did these groups of dedicated people back here in 1966 realise that it would not help us at all in the long term as in a few more decades everything and I mean everything that we manufactured here will be made in Communist Red China because of greedy companies that wanted to make quick $$ by getting goods made there and with the laying off of thousands of employees etc, go to any Harvey Norman or Bunnings store for instance and see how much they have on sale that is made here in Australia! Sweet F/A that’s what! I remember the sixties well when this film was made all our iconic brands then are All gone now, brands like Victa and Black & Decker, Whirlpool that were Australian are now made in China, But one thing we are good at is goods like these are “Badge Engineered” with these once great Aussie nameplates, I shake my head in disgust!

And with added productivity comes fewer workers needed, working harder to line the pockets of the management and factory owners, been there done that.

Everyone's like "so sad these jobs are all gone now", but love their $3 shirts from kmart. Chimney sweepers also lost their jobs, but other forms of employment were created.

I remember the good and bad of Australia of the 1960’s and 1970’s. The bad was the industrial action, strikes , super high prices of manufactured items

Not really. Just these days our eyes are open. Its like how people say about how they didn't need to lock their doors in the past. Well... Considering the 70s was just filled to the brim with Serial Killers. Clips like this give the impression everything is fine. But you still had children being raped, murdered. Wives being beaten. I could go on.
