Hi Laura! I have been learning so much from you 😊 how do we know when a plant is dormant? Thanks in advance!
@LauraEubanks7 жыл бұрын
sirenamichelle dormancy is a sleep state. The Succulent will often curl up or drop bottom leaves. Protecting your plants from full sun in the summer is a great way to trick them into "staying awake" A dormant plant isn't bad, it just presents challenges in that it might look a little scrubby and be more susceptible to rot, if watered.

Love your air of serenity Laura! it calms me just to listen to you. I always love your "remember,...." tips and when you repeat the basics, it's just great stuff. What do you recommend for spraying? What's the beautiful purple/pink tall succulent to the right of the sunburned ones? I love it! BTW, I accidentally sunburned the leaves of my one and only orchid using a growing lamp. I'd placed it too close to the lamp, temporarily, for only one day. That's why I'm here: I want to ensure I can recognize this unexpected result in case this happens to my succulents in the future. 🥺 😎

Great videos Laura, I have learnt so much from your tips and advice - I am in Canberra Australia and I have the opposite problem - FROST ! All my succulents are under a pergola but we have been having some bitter frosts this Winter with temps getting down to minus 10C (14F). All my succulents are doing fine with the exception of a jade plant (money tree) which is at the edge of the pergola in a large pot (still under cover but near the edge of the roof line). The plant itself is about 3 feet high above the soil. About 2/3 of the plant has been hammered by the frost but the other third is OK. I have now moved it more towards the centre of the pergola. My question is - do I chop the main stems right back to the unaffected areas or just remove the affected parts keeping the main stems or branches? I hope you can help.

Hi, Laura. I planted succulents about 3 months ago and they were doing great. I have a part shaded by a tree and those are doing amazing. They look beautiful. It was very HOT this Saturday in California and many that are on sunnier side are sunburned. Can you give me some tips, please. Some almost look dead. Shade cloth on the sunny area? Should I remove them? If burnt completely will they come back? I have to be honest, I'm a bummed out because it's a new hobby and I've been putting tons of time and effort for months into my new garden. Thanks!

Can a Monstera Deliciosa also get sunburned? I left it in a shaded window sill for a week when I went on vacation and came back to find one of the leaves completely black and others with small black parts. New growth seems fine and the stem of the black leaves are fine. I'm wondering if you think the black will eventually turn green or that's just how those leaves are going to be now. Thank you for your helpful videos!

This might be an extremely stupid question but I will ask any way. Can sunburned leaves that are still a bit "plump" be used to propagate? I recently went to HEB (live in Texas) and saw a rack of succulents that were on clearance for $1. I am not a "plant person" but I don't know what took over me and I bought two. They were being scorched by the sun and the soil was rock hard dry. Plenty were already leaning over seemingly dead and some had horrible sunburned patches that were 'crispy' brown. I brought home one that is tagged Echeveria blue balloon. That one was not nearly as sunburned although it did loose a leaf which I tried to propagate watching a YT video and I guess cause I am again not a plant person must of done something wrong cause the leaf rotted. The other succulent I got was in a much more horrible state. Don't know the name of it but it is long and has leaves around the stem. Aside from like 4 leaves on it all others were so burned on the top. The bottoms obviously shaded from the sun were still doing okay. I snapped one of the leaves from the bottom of the stem to see if I can propagate it but the inside looks a bit hollow. Does that mean it is not possible? Any help from anyone who understands my horrible writing would be greatly appreciated.

At first it was a wonderful video and a helpful one But I have a stapelia cactus and the buds are not even growing 1inch I butted it on the roof and its buds never grow It turned purple and today I went for it and it got 40% yellow arms I took them away what should I do and I have zebra cactus how to take care of it And do you know any natural mixture to get red of bugs .
My succulents are burning up from the heat and sun even in the shade 😩 I live in Tucson, AZ and it's been super hot with high temperatures of 120 to 125.

You're the best! I love your work! You inspired me to make my first succulent/rock garden. Are you on instagram? I hope!! I have 2 questions for you...I'm in zone 9, 100 degree summer...can you suggest succulents that can survive 6+ hours of sun? Is there any other type of non- succulent plants that I can pair with them? Thank you for all the information and inspiration!

I know its been awhile since this originally uploaded but I was doing some research and couldn't find an answer to my specific question. I am still learning about my succulents in my garden through trial and error- I recently purchased an Echeveria (5" diameter) and placed it in my garden. Long story short its been clearly severely sun damaged except for 1" center which is still bright green. I read that if the plant is 70% or more damaged I should cut the leaves because the leaves are still taking nutrients, however according to other sites and this video I should let it be because it will eventually repair itself. If I should cut its leaves, how much is TOO much?

I am new to plant parenting.. Despite of trying hard to taks care of my succulents sedum senacio crasulla and echeviria types i got the soil water clogged n one of my blue chalkstick got its root rotten... I removed the plants from that pot n kept the soil mix in direcr sun. N also i let mh plants dry with their root covered in outdoor. But in slight shade.... The temperature today was 43 degree C. As its too hot here.. And when i came back home they were all dehydrated n dried off.. I have rerooed them properly and keeping them in shadd now.roots seem fine. But don't know if plants will thrive or not.i m just so sad n depressed..... N guilty

I’m seeing a lot of gnats in the new succulents I potted this summer. Is there a way to get rid of gnats without harming bees and lizards? I think it started from a bag of potting soil. They worry me because I keep hearing about how fungus gnats are attracted to fungus :/

U didn’t say a thing about the red tipped ones next to those,.. that’s the question I have. Is my plant meant to have a red top? Mine looks healthy and vivid red color almost magenta. It looks more like the plants next to the ones you identify as sunburn. Those look sick and dying tips mine don’t look like that. Please comment on the difference
