Agreed. I've run into too many back-stabbing, knive-twisting jerks in business - but most small business owners are just trying to earn their keep by doing good work. Shit happens and there's almost always a "good" way out of it as long as greed and anger can be held back.

What I've learned the hard way is that if I'm concerned enough to ask a contractor the question "Should I move my cars...." or "Should I remove this or that...." and they tell me "don't worry about it, they'll be fine" then I'm very likely going to be disappointed in the outcome and should have just addressed my concerns myself to reduce the risk to zero. Sounds like you've got an equitable deal worked out with the owner - I think that's a rare thing nowadays so good on you for being flexible in working out that deal with him.

Yes, I am surprised he didn’t go the PDR route. I have seen some incredible damage repaired on KZbin of course. It would probably take a lot of patience and work and may even cost more than repainting just the damaged side. Personally I would prefer the pdr if possible. Still, I am sure Eric knows what he is doing and what we see on KZbin repairs may not be showing the whole story on a repair (by pdr).

I had a tree fall on my shed, 2 tractors and my trailer last weekend. The only damage I care about is a couple scratches on the nice tractor. Nothing broke on anything else and I don’t care if that stuff got scratched so I consider myself extremely lucky. I paid $2000 a year for 2 million in coverage that included tree removal. I have no idea what it would have increased if I made a claim, but luckily I didn’t need it. I also had a policy to move anything that could move within the radius of felling. That included asking neighbors to move vehicles and trailers. They always did and thanked my for letting them know. Occasionally they even let me work from or fell into their yard when that made more sense then staying on the property that hired me. Good luck on the repair, I would do the little stuff too. There’s no reason to pay shop rate for little odds and ends.
