Quick note that Lady O's ability No rest for the wicked brings back D6 MODELS, not wounds worth of models. In turn 2 I heard that it only healed 2 wounds on the Spirit Hosts. Would've brought back 2 models I guess.

It feels like the Nighthaunt completely fall flat if their opening plan fails. The charges are so important for them to get, it is surprising they don't have spells that lean into that tactic more(Bonuses to charge and whatnot). Or if they do, I haven't seen them in play. While they aren't especially magic-heavy, they really need to get defensive spells off if they take the first turn and can't get the alpha strike. The Mortarch of Grief's spell failures were hugely impactful as the Idoneth used their once-per-game powers immediately on engagement(Specifically High Tide). Almost painful to watch the Nighthaunt get hammered like this. Good game, regardless. I'll rendezvous with you at the next battlefield.

It was over after turn 1 movement. The turtle didn’t even got the charge, the round 2 idk turn 1 could have been even more devastating. Even if the priority would have been different, the nighthaunt would sit inside the IDK army who strike back round 2 and then have to fight them in high tide and a possible double the next round. Also Deepkin are pretty good vs nighthaunt generally. Playing defensively and trying to counter charge when jordan offers an opening would do the trick. Let idk come to you. Feed them with screens, slow them down as long as possible, play for the points and strike in the late game. It was a quite slow IDK List compared to other variations, which makes it possible for the nighthaunt to avoid them for quite some turns.

​@@olafolafsson2755Honestly it's an even match up, Nighthaunt EHost can be built to just dance around Deepkin while doing splash mortals, then optimize the engagement. Ryan's list just doesn't have a win condition, he's running with what he has. Even if you're trying to make mass Chainrasps work, lack of Spirit Torments, lack of Terminexus, lack of Chainghasts, etc. for the synergy.

@@PrussianWarfare Totally agree. The list didn't play into the strengths of Emerald Host. Plus, he just went right in the middle and waited to get killed. Emerald Host lists are meant to be extremely mobile, teleport at the right time to splash MW, use Terminexus, etc. Playing far objectives and dancing around could've been a better strat.

*SPOLIER COMMENT* Ahhh man that was a tough one to watch as a big Nighthaunt fan aha. But also can't say I'm super shocked either. That's just the way it goes when plan A leaves you open with Nighthaunt at the moment. I have found myself having to play alot slower at Nighthaunt this season and can't really pull the trigger until around turn 2/3 depending on the army I'm facing but then you do always risk having to play catch up for primary objectives. Great looking armies from you both though and awesome to see NH hitting the table all the same. Always next time!! :)

Yeah, I agree, its just the challenge with IDK is if you wait for 3 to engage it means you are charging into high tide IDK which is rough.

They can nighthaunt are pretty good. My friend manages to beat my soulblight pretty frequently. But I'm not sure if it's just the nighthaunt countering soulblight pretty effectively

I like this strategy for the battle reports a lot. It makes rules clear if you're curious enough to pause and helps to clarify what unit does what. Part of me does wish that they showed the dice rolls, especially with rules like the exploding 6s just to show the impact it has. That said it would slow it down and remove some of the nice, digestible shortness that this format does very well. Also nice to see mor'phann played. They are my favorite deepkin subfaction lore wise, making them a big contender for my first army. The only downside being I can literally never even find good namarti heavy battle reports to see the play style, let alone mor'phann

I knew that was a risk, unfortunately the trade off of being more defensive would be basically scoring 0 for the first few turns and then fighting IDK at high tide which didn't seem like a good option either.

Can someone explain to me with what rules allowed IDK attack after each other at the start of Combat Phase (turn 2)? I'm kind of lost here Did all of those have fight first on charge?

The Akhelian King has an ability to grant fight first to d3 units once per game. so I get those activations at the start of the phase, then also get to choose the first activation for the remaining units!

How would you have played it different? I get that NH is way stronger if you run MSU Bladegheists but that's not the army I was piloting. We knew going in that this was a far from optimal NH list. Unfortunately it was a fairly volatile matchup and things went against me but I really don't think this was an easy 20:0. ;) I knew moving a bit forward on 1 was a risk, but scoring 0 on one and setting the game up to engage on BR 3 when IDK are their strongest isn't a great option either. Its just a volatile match up unfortunately where whoever is doing the charging probably is going to win and the player with priority control has an advantage in determining that.
