In this video we'll replace the actuator on a VNT-15. While installing the new actuator, we will use a MityVac to calibrate.

Don't foget if youre car was running for a long time with a low power condition remouve the lower intercooler pipe there is a big chance that there is a big amount of oil clean the oil to prevent a runaway situation and destroy the engine and a second point is if the actuator was rusted and rust dust can damage the black and white check valve and the N75 and make sure you have good vaccum on the actuator.

I had recently replaced turbo core because of oil leakage, however I am facing issues with the boost now as I could not understand these adjustments as yet. I have a Garrett Turbocharger, which is supposed to start kicking in at 1500 rpm, however it starts kicking in at as low as 1100 rpm. From 1100-1900 rpm, I can feel there is too much load on the engine, turbo speed keeps increasing (from the rotating sound it makes) and then suddenly after 1900-2000 rpm is crossed, there is sudden gush of energy and acceleration, feels like turbo had acted now. Thereafter, again between 2200-2300 rpm, i can feel load on the engine and hear the turbo starting again (means the high speed rotating sound of turbo). Please advise what could be wrong and how to correct it.

@LAW-fv6ys
@LAW-fv6ys 4 жыл бұрын
You can't convert vacuum pressure of a actuator to boost pressure. Boost is different depending on the turbo size. The actuator could work on the same vacuum on a big or small turbo. It's more to do with the actuator spring tension as to what vacuum you need to move it.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. Suck the small vacuum pipe that goes to the actuator and see if it moves all the way. If it doesn't move it's knackered. Google Mr muscle turbo clean....normally a sooted up vnt
@camgreer
@camgreer 5 жыл бұрын
It rusts out or the diaphragm inside will corrode and break down. When that happens, it won't hold vacuum. You check this with that vacuum pump like he has. They're fairly cheap, but you need one. So, a good actuator will not only move when you apply vacuum, but it will hold vacuum after it is applied. Watch the gauge and make sure the vacuum stays up after you pump it. If it doesn't hold vacuum, it is leaking and will not work for your turbo. That's what happened with mine.

what would i experience with overboosting?
@idparts
@idparts 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Evan,You might not notice it unless you had a boost gauge, but if it overboosted enough the car would go into limp mode, which is basically when ECU senses overboost and stops using the turbo. You would know if your car was in limp mode because of the power difference--your car would just become extremely sluggish, but when you restarted the car it would have its power back. You may get a check engine light when this happens. A sure way to know would be to plug the car into VCDS and run logs to check requested boost against actual boost.

I don't understand,Don't you want to add boost to see when the wastegate opens??? It looks like your adding vacuum tho. I would understand if you were pumping adding boost pressure like pumping a bike tire. But I just can't understand why you would add vacuum to open the wastegate flap. I need to find out when my wastegate opens so I know how much boost it will put out. I'm just going buy the wastegate spring for my boost. Its a 10lb spring, so don't that mean the wastegate will open up at 10PSI if I don't give it preload. I would more understand if that mighty vac gun was giving it PSI (BOOST) then the wastegate would crack open and then you know how much boost you should ruffly make.
@maiorciprian

JOHN SMART this newer diesels use the ECU to control boost so the wastegate actuator is not actually run by the boost pressure but by the vacuum controlled by an electronic valve which gets a command to supply negative pressure from the ECU

Which position is the wastegate open position. Is it the lever at top or bottom. Is underboost, if we get the boost before 2000rpm.
@viktormuller1609
@viktormuller1609 Жыл бұрын
Turbo control - VNT and wastegate is closed if engine is not running and open if it is started and without load. By looking at the rod while starting the engine you can see if it pushes or pulls the lever - opening wastegate/vnt. If it pulls the level to the actuator then lengthening the rod will actually cause more boost as the vnt will stay closed for longer time. If it pushes the rod out then shortening will cause more boost. (if you want more boost about 1.5 turn should be enough and 3 turns if you trust your turbo)

Because the "proper" way to do it is by taking the whole turbo off and replacing everything. That's what's described in VW's maintenance procedures. Besides, there's a decent chance replacing or moving the actuator might not fix your boosting problem. That being said, there's a chance it will fix your issues (depending on what they are), and you should consider trying it.
