I just learned what an IEP is I had to learn it myself they didn’t tell me that, but it sounds like a good thing the act was passed in 90s it’s for help children with special needs so they can get educated and live in normal life and I agree with that. That’s a good thing.

Should graduating be a goal? My child is 9th grade and understands at 3rd grade level. This year they put her in full inclusion in general education classes. When I suggested that the math was way beyond her understanding the case manager said he couldn’t do anything about the curriculum as the state requires that class for graduation. I’d rather she learn to count money to help her in life rather than learn algebra to graduate.

QUESTION: on the IEP do the Administrators go off of LAW codes regulations etc. for the IEP from just the TEA website or many other websites? And are there certain documents that they have to go off of for the IEP?

Special Education Resource As a grandparent who was a regular ed. Teacher primarily working with students on IEPs, though not many with ED. There were no emotional and/or social goals, only behavior which was not followed by strategies to develop the skills to attain the goal.

How is one to address a IEP team that resist a parents input?A parent asking for the goal to be appropriate or modify the goal objective. Is there a certain verbage or position a parent can take if combating a resisting team to do the right thing. Finding a result that is in real time, not through an offical complaint process which only takes additional time and barely address the time need in real time or the effects the complaint has on the child, regardless of the retaliation prohibited laws that exist. (As we know retaliation still happens to some degree) any resources you could offer if there is limited possiblity for a better outcome?

I would provide data to back up why you suggest the goal / objective be modified and an example of what you think it should be. I would also suggest that you ask for physical examples from them to show why they feel the goal/objective is appropriate so you guys can find a balance.

Taylor Fulcher thAnk you for your feedbAck! I've cAme At it in the direction your tAlking About. Which promoted me getting IEE. But in the time it will be to get that finished the year may be up. The team seems uninterested in supporting things which have been included in every other IEP for nearly 10 years. All within the sAme district even. They seem combative and egoism driven. I'm unsure how I can help my daughter get her needs met with team like this

So sorry to hear about the struggles you're having through this process! Have you tried to discuss these issues with the principal of the school? I know you mentioned retaliation... but after a certain number of failed attempts, it's typically time to work up the chain.

I'm getting conflicting information. Are goals derived from the educational testing and the deficiets found within that testing, or are they derived from baselines that the teacher takes from the student? I was told by a couple people that you can't use the educational testing results to form goals. Then I was told I missunderstood. Can you help clarify?

Kudos for the Video! Excuse me for chiming in, I would love your thoughts. Have you thought about - Patlarny Ancient Secrets Principle (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a great one off product for maximising your life using a simple goal setting strategy minus the headache. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my friend got great success with it.
