Dang, I wasn't expecting such a thoughtful response and actually I think you're right. The MK4 really does fill the same kind of niche that a Miata fills. Especially when you throw a suppressor on a Mk4 or even have it integrally suppressed--those guns are insanely fun but obviously very impractical for most situations. Thanks Ben.

Ben…. I drove an NB Miata for 10 years with no other car as a backup 😅 it wasn’t until a year and a half ago I got an actual commuter…. Number one lesson though, if you own a Miata, nobody will ask you to help them move; but you will be the person to ask for help….

You can absolutely racecar out a Mk4 with all the Volquartsen stuff, and they do great at things like Steel Challenge. It's absolutely the same thing as a miata that's been fully gutted, gotten all specced out suspension, but still has the driveline. Yes, you could absolutely do all this same stuff to a Corvette and it'll be faster. But fast is not in the blood of the Miata, just like power is not in the blood of the Mk series.

I would say the Ruger mk IV and similar is more like the GR86/BRZ twins.. fun but still somewhat practical… I think the Miata of guns is a single action .22 revolver. Any one of them. Arguably more fun than a ruger mk IV since you get to actuate hammer manually (like a manual car), cheap to maintain and feed (like a Miata), and so wildly impractical, it could definitely not be your only gun, whereas I could see the ruger being someone’s only gun (but just barely) and you’re able to learn the basics of shooting and marksmanship with it (kind of like learning to drive manual, rev matching, heel-toe, etc.)

Apparently a lot of people in the comment section have limited or no experience with a Miata or a Ruger MK IV. Sad. As both of them lack power, but are shockingly precise, reliable, capable of competitive times, easy to work on, inexpensive, and plenty of aftermarket.

Hey, I have an NB2! These cars are a blast. Only mod I've done is the extended front ball joint to get a wider adjustment range on the front camber. I would highly encourage you to play with the front toe setting if you haven't already. I've got mine VERY dialed in feeling now

If you’re in the Midwest, look up MCSCC (Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs). They have high speed auto cross events that are auto cross on track. They do multiple 10-20 minute practice sessions in the morning and you run timed standing start laps for competition in the afternoon. It’s a good entry into running either time attack or wheel to wheel stuff later on (which they also have) I ran with them for years in my Mustang before kids and competitive shooting.

My Miata is the car I want to drive most, and my Springfield Hellcat is the CCW I prefer to carry most. I have had bigger, more powerful muscle cars and have bigger, more powerful handguns, but I have more confidence the Miata will keep me out of jail and the Hellcat will always be there to get me out of trouble. You will lose your license pushing a muscle car to get the same feel you get when you push a Miata to it's limits. Been there, done that. Miata for the win(d)!

For me it's a short AR pistol with a conversion kit in .22lr. If it is sunny, it's conversion time so you flip the roof down or take it off depending on the model. Though it is fun for a short distance, it won't get the long range results. One can upgrade with lots of bits but the frame can't make full use of bigger calibers. It won't an AR-10. But it can rev up for some noise.

I was thinking the standard CZ TS2. It's a fun gun, great trigger, super flat shooter, somewhat economical, anyone with basic experience can pick it up and quickly learn how to drive tacks. At the same time, you can't mount anything to the underside, the gun is way too big and heavy to conceal carry, and at the end of the day it leaves you wanting to have pushed for either a TS2Orange, or break into an even crazier race gun. It lives in the Shadow of the Shadow 2, pun intended.

That is verry true, about cr to learn or just have fun on track. It should be considerably lightweight, with some stiffer suspension setup, with good brakes, and not not to powerful. Most fun people tend to have in cars where are not afraid to press gas pedal to maximum. Ofcourse tyres are most important but lightweight cars dont eat them apart quick. Miata is used for racing cup series around the Europe. Old ones and new ones. Verry well balanced car with 50:50 weight ratio. Its similar to guns also.

Gun/car analogies don’t work. Miata is a solid Japanese manufacturer(aside from their products shared with ford). I use my girlfriend’s Miata when my friends do track days with their “real” sports cars(M4&911s4). I turn faster laps every single time. They rely on the car and I rely on me. Just like I could out shoot most with a stock striker gun and they have some $3000 whatever.

I don’t know if you own a Miata judging from hearing it on the last video I’m assuming you do no self-respecting man should be driving a Miata unless they put a LS in it I’m not sure if you’ve heard of the company flying Miata but they put a LS motor in the Miata and beef up the suspension and that is how the Miata should be done.
