One thing I would like to say about the 60s is that there where more field goal attempts because there was no 3 point line, also if you take away 7% of the rebounds wilt and russel had (because of the lower shooting percentage) they would still be far ahead of everyone else since dennis had nearly 6k while wilt had 9k. Another thing to point out is that faster pace of play isnt a justification to why they had so many rebounds because it's not a bad thing. Even if wilt and bill played today they would grab similar amounts of rebounds. I pointed out the 3 point line earlier because even a half court shot would be counted as a field goal which is why it seems so low. Next time you should adjust the stats without the inflation just to see how good they would be regardless if it was inflation or not. I just found it a little bit disingenuous and unfair to the 60s players that u would say that but I still like your video. Another thing is that for players like dennis you should include years where they played less than 50 games because that was common occurrence, you should exclude seasons based on them being outliers and not based on a random number like 50 games.

Elgin Baylor, he definitely is one of the all time greats.

History has neglected his legacy as the offensive equivalent of Bill Russell as a breakthrough player. Baylor was the first African-American in the NBA to average at least 20 points and double-digit rebounds for a season, and he did it as Rookie of the Year in 1958-59. His offensive exploits would soon be overshadowed by Chamberlain, and he had to share the ball with the equally impressive Jerry West on his own team. I don't know when the term "hang time" came along, but I do know Baylor was the first to display that talent on an NBA court. His legacy will be available to everyone who is curious about the history of professional basketball. All it takes is checking the statistical leaders of his time, because his name is near the top year after year.

Wilt and Russell were grabbing 3,000 more rebounds than anyone else in the greatest time for rebounds. That tells you something about exactly how good they were. Yes, rebounds were more plentiful, but they were plentiful for _everyone,_ and it was Wilt and Russell dominating.

Although 2010-2014 has 1 more MVP and is probably better statistically, 2012-2016 doesnt include his horrific 2011 finals performance and it does include his 2016 finals performance, which is arguably the greatest finals performance ever. Also in 2015 he had a monstrous playoff run and single handedly took GSW to a 6 game series. So idk, 2010-2014 was better in the regular season but overall Im going with 2012-2016

I saw Wilt play and he was amazing. His strength, speed, jumping ability, and immense size are legendary. He was also extremely gifted and skilled. Wilt still holds a lot of NBA records and younger fans have no idea just how great and dominant he was. Wilt also led the NBA in assists one year when his coach asked him to be a facilitator because he had more talent around him. In my opinion Wilt is the GOAT and I saw all the players on that list. Of course, all the players on that list were so great but Wilt was different.

In my eyes, Alvin Robertson is a HOFer. He's a 4x all-star, a DPOY(one of only 5 guards), an MIP, has the most steals per game in a season(3.7), most steals per game in a career(2.7), the shortest DPOY ever, the shortest player to record a quadruple-double, the only guard to ever record a quadruple double, the only player to record a tripple double with steals, and a 6x all defensive player. He is one of the most underrated players in the history of the NBA. You could say he's not a hall of famer, but the stats don't lie, this man was a legend.

He only has 5 defensive 1st teams when he clearly is the biggest dude in his position. He has 4 MVPs in an 18-year career. He has 2 bronze medals until Kobe stepped in. And lastly, he lost 6 Finals series, 2 of which he was supposed to win (Dallas and 2014 SAS). In hindsight, Jordan's 80s career is better than LeBron's whole career. 63pts vs Celtics, 40ppg twice in 2 playoff runs, MVP, DPOY and scoring champion in the same year, defensive selections, 2 slam dunk titles, 3 scoring titles, 3 steals titles.

He wouldn't have gotten most of those records if he played today because of all the added rules and restrictions. That said, Wilt was known as an underperformer in the playoffs, which is why MJ beats him in that arena statistically.

It's amazing to see how LeBron disappeared when longevity is taken out of the equation. As opposed to someone like John Stockton who mentained his numbers despite removing longevity. Also, this video showed just how good that Jazz team was, considering 3 of their guys sat at the top or near at the top for each of their categories.

He doesn't dissapear. It just shows that when you're trying to swerve a conversation into your arguments choosing, you can do it. This is what @JonnyArnett did in this video. He always states that he considers MJ the goat, which is fine. But the manner in which he's trying to prove it is inaccurate and what he often says - doesn't tell the whole story. Or to be even more precise, it misses a big chunk of the story. There are several huge flaws with his goat calculator, and they are: 1. The point assigning. You're telling me that leading "goat candidates" in steals and steals per game or blocks and blocks per game counts equally as a MVP and all nba awards, or even titles? 2. For the 5 major categories he mentioned, in all 5 the player that had the most in total also had the most in per game. So Wilt was number 1 in points and rebounds and gets 4 points? MJ was first in steal totals and spg and gets 2 points, while Russell gets 1 for 5 titles? Duncan gets 2 points for leading in blocks and blocks per game? 3. Since you mentioned Lebron, he picked the wrong 5 years. It should be either '09-'13 or '12-'16. I would pick '09-'13. Now suddenly we get a change. Lebron leads all players in MVP awards with 4, and he has the maximum number of all d 1st team selections. Now, under JonnyArnett's calculation, MJ loses 1 point (as do Kareem, Russell and Bird) and Lebron get's 1 point in all D selections. MJ now has 8, Lebron has 4, Bird and Kareem have 2 and Russell has 1. 4. Why use only 9 players? Why do you stop with GOAT counting at 9? If we were to add a few more players, we would probably add Hakeem. If we add Hakeem, MJ loses 1 DPOY point. I won't add him in the further calculation, just saying. If we were to equate the (almost) exact same categories (ppg and total points, bpg and total blocks etc.), and also remove FG% (what does this have to do with goat conversation, he could've at least used TS% or something), we get these changes: MJ 7, Wilt 4, Magic 2, Duncan & Kareem 1 Now, if we would somehow try to value differently different things (as stated, blocks or steals and MVP's can't be measured the same), we could use this: MVP 5 points 1st team, FMVP, rings 4 points 1st D, DPOY 3 Scoring, assist, rebound titles; points, rebounds, assists, 1.5 points Steals, blocks titles; steals, blocks 0.5 points Now we have this MJ at 16.5 and Lebron has 16.0. No one else is even near - the next is Wilt with 6. But, if I would try to create a video to minimize MJ's total numbers, I would add Hakeem in the years he had 2 when he won DPOY. Hakeem is definitely a top 10 or 15 all time player. Now Lebron has 16.0 still, and MJ has 13.5. Additionally, I would totally exclude blocks and steals from this, and give 1 point for the scoring, assist and rebound titles, bouncing MJ down to 12.0. What's fascinating with both MJ and Lebron in these 5 seasons ('88-'92 and '09-'13) - they both dominated the league in advanced stats (VORP, BPM, PER and WS), leading the league in every single category these 5 seasons. So, 5 year Lebron (you can even choose a few versions of 5 years) is one of the best players ever.

@@Adam-tt5cs People have been clinging on to LeBron's career scoring numbers (and career numbers in general) and think that it's a solid argument for why he is the GOAT. They don't add nuance when taking numbers like these into consideration. They fail to see that it's a byproduct of his longevity. Quantity over quality, not the other way around. Unlike Stockton and as well as some of these players, whose numbers hold up despite being subjected to scrutiny. There are other metrics out there that people can hold on to when making the case for GOAT for any of the All-time Greats, because except for a few, these career totals are nothing but fluff. And I do understand how much of an amazing feat it is to rack up all those numbers. But when talking about the GOAT, we have to be splitting hairs, we have to be pedantic, we have to be hyper critical. So yeah, when subjected to scrutiny... Disappeared As in *poof* Dropped off Disappeared

@@kookurikapooh First, longevity matters for all players that are on this Jonny Arnett goat list - as it should. Durability, availability, etc. All 9 players played over 897 games (Larry Bird), and 7 of them played over 1000 (only Bird and Magic didn't). 2nd, Lebron was always considered one of the best all round players in NBA history and not the single best in any category. But still, on the all time scoring list he his 6th in ppg. And of the top 6 players, this could be checked out, he has played in the slowest pace. 3rd - back to pace, the Lebron '09-'13 stretch also interacts with one of the slowest paces in NBA history. Of all the players in this top 10 scoring list, only Kobe's 06'-'10 stretch was played in a slower pace. The average NBA pace from '09-'13 was 92. The pace for Jordan and Malone from '88-'92 was 98.5, meaning 7% more possesions. Also, in this 5 year stretch Malone played in 407 games out of 410, which puts him at 28.96 ppg. Lebron missed a big chunk of these games, mostly due to the lockout season in 2012. He only played in 374 games. Divide this with 10.392 points Lebron scored puts him at 27.8 ppg. Adjust this for pace (7%) we get at 29.7 ppg. Not to mention if we go lower to this list in seasons - not sure what the pace was in the '60s, but from '74-'78 it was 106.2, which is 15% faster than '09 to '13. 4th - during this 5 year stretch Lebron led the entire league in total points scored, scoring 2 more total points than Durant and playing 7 less games. Johnny Arnett also wouldn't use MJ's highest scoring seasons ('86-'87), because the Bulls that season finished with a negative record (40-42). Which is another proof that scoring title mean little. So, yeah - proof that Lebron doesn't disappear and proof that, no matter what way someone wants to diminish the greatest 18 year stretch of any NBA player (trying to prove longevity doesn't matter) - this guy also had the best 5 and 10 year stretch. "But when talking about the GOAT, we have to be splitting hairs, we have to be pedantic, we have to be hyper critical." I understand this, you're right. But the manner in which you're splitting hairs matters. Not taking pace into consideration and using these stats isn't splitting hairs, it's not telling the whole story. Look at this - MJ didn't win a single playoff series without Pippen - which is the exact truth. MJ also doesn't have a single winning season without Pippen - which is also true. He never won a title without Phil Jackson. His team won 55 games without him and lost in 7 in the playoffs. Let's split these hairs, as well. He lost 3 times in the first round in a no zone league.

Between the 3 of them, who go their points from the 2, the 3, or from the lay up or dunk the most? No brainer that LeBron mostly got his points from within 10ft. Between the 3, he drove to the basket more. Between the 3, he took the shot with the highest conversion rate (which is the lay-up and the dunk. And yet the percentage between, maybe just MJ and LeBron, is still close. Imagine letting a guy do 10 lay-ups and dunks and another guy do 10 junpshots and 5 dunks or drives and yet the two men end up close in field goals. Add to the nuance the long permeating idea that the defense nowadays is allowed little room to actually affect the offense, and how a significant amount of LeBron's career is played during an era which is easier to score. As opposed to other eras, such as MJ's era, maybe even some of Kobe's era, where the physicality was significantly more intense... Now considering that... Add that to LeBron's shit selection... He's elite, but scoring wasn't always his thing and he hasn't put up as much elite scoring seasons as compared to the rest of the elites in this list. It's plain to see, giving a player his best piece of work as the sample size... LeBron went from top 3 to zip in All-time Scoring. At least from the list that was shown. Make no mistake, LeBron is no doubt in people's all-time great list. People see him as either #1 and #2--validly so. You could argue that point, but people should stop huffing and puffing this oversimplified presentation of the All time Scoring highly in favor of LeBron without nuance or context. My original comment was simple. My point still stands. Accumulative stats are deceptive. Some of them are all fluff. I would love for you to come up with your own sample size for LeBron's top 5 seasons and actually prove that, after taking things into consideration, he would still be near his original ranking.

Should of included playoff scoring just to show how dominant Jordan was. Wilt may have averaged 40 over a 5 year stretch in the regular season but he only has 13 40 point games in the playoffs for his career while Jordan had 38. He also averaged 12 less ppg than Jordan in the playoffs. Individual dominance has to include playoffs

I keep thinking of a KZbinr called Rusty Buckets. He has two videos discounting John Stockton (one on pure point guards being overrated then one specifically on John). Yet in the ten year and five year he maintains his amazing stats- from first all time steals and assists to first or second in both 5 and 10 years. Despite his longevity, his consistent all star appearances and play off appearances when you boil it down he still dominates as what alot of people want out of a point guard. That and the players who actually played with him who praise him (Gary Payton, Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson, Jason Kidd and Chris Webber among them) tells me Rusty is straight trippin'.

Basically this is just another very useful and important way of quantifying who the best player of all time is... And as always, Michael Jordan stands comfortably above everyone else. You can argue all day about the inclusions and rankings of the top 2-10 greatest players of all time. It's fun to debate! But there is no argument or debate about who the NUMBER 1 is, as almost every possible way you look at it, it's always going to be MJ.

In a league where height is might, a guard dominated in the era of big men, the 4s and 5s who can camp in the paint.
