The world would be a better place if everyone acted like a Southern mama (and the food would be a lot better too)!

Most of the problems we are having in today's society stems from kids who have never been told no and don't know how to handle it when someone finally does (like a girl who doesn't want to date them or a teacher who won't accept their bad work), so they throw a very dangerous temper tantrum. It's not child abuse to give your kids very firm and defined boundaries, it makes them feel safe. It's far worse to expect your child to know how to navigate through a very confusing world when they don't have the experience necessary to make the correct choices. As parents, that's our job. It doesn't make you popular and it's a lot of work because kids will constantly test you to see if you really mean what you say, but when you reaffirm the outline of those boundaries (No, you are not going to stay overnight at Billy's house until I get a chance to meet him and his parents), even if they get mad, deep down it makes them feel secure.

We never go to the doctor when we're sick unless it lasts an unusually long time or there are abnormal symptoms. For a simple cold or flu, my mother always made me homemade chicken soup and jello (from fruit juice) along with a few homeopathic meds, cough drops, and homemade elderberry syrup. Doctor praises her every time for doing it right. Moms know what they're doing!

That cop scene gave me flashbacks. The one and only time I stole anything it was a piece of wrapped loose candy that you used to be able to buy by the pound from the Super 1. Momma found me with a mint in my mouth that she KNEW I hadn't bought. She took me directly to the store manager, made me apologize, offered to make me sweep the floors to pay for it, and indicated via vicious sign language (behind my back) that he should read me the riot act. Then she took me home and made me clean the whole house as punishment. I was 8 and I never stole again.

This happened to me when I was 12. I stole a candy bar from the corner store by our house, and I guess my mom didn’t notice until we got home that I had a candy bar she didn’t pay for. Well she definitely found out when we got home and she immediately drove me back up there and made me return it to the manager in front of everyone. It was so embarrassing and I couldn’t stop crying, but needless to say I haven’t stolen anything since

QueenDAC they make good people in society and those good people happen to be *well* mannered. It is still well mannered. My claim isn’t stupid my claim is true because the way southern people are brought up is all based of off manners. ( that’s where calling everyone woman ma’am comes from, even if the person isn’t that much older than you)

QueenDAC why are you getting but hurt over someone who has grown up with a very southern mom and dad who have shown them manners and how to be with god. (Southern snare very religious). I never said anything against Jamaican moms or any kind of other mom. I was talking about how basically all southern people are raised and why it’s get to be raised that way. No need to cry over spilled milk because you won’t change my opinion.

QueenDAC wow you are just making yourself look dumb. If you look at all my comments all they were about were manners or the fact that my parents were southern how is that close to a life story. Just because you can’t take the fact that I think southern moms are good doesn’t mean you should get all upset and butt hurt and try make up some shit.

:35 One of my biggest cultures shocks when moving to OR from Tn is that parents in other parts of the country don't hold their kids accountable like this and, unfortunately, it really shows. I feel that's why we're so polite, well mannered, and more sensitive to the suffering of others (in general, not as a whole, every population has it's tacky bits).

The “Is it monogrammed?” Is so true when I was in school every body’s school supplies like notebooks and binders and water bottles were all monogrammed. The more you had monogrammed the better you were.

Lol the doctor one. Anytime I felt under the weather, my momma would give my granny a quick call and we’d drive over there, she would have some chicken noodle soup ready for me and the couch made for me to rest. 😂 she was the best!

"uh-uh-uh! I am not your maid!" my momma says that to me and my siblings all the time as she is cleaning the house. Also, have you'll done one of when southerners go out west. We did that over the summer and we held the door for an elderly couple and they went crazy saying, "Finally! Somebody was raised right!" As my momma was snapping her fingers at us to quickly order.

I heard a story about a contractor that got kidnapped and held for ransom by some guys in Mexico. They were the 'in over their heads' type that were basically bluffing about any harm that might come to him. So when they left him alone, he LITERALLY told their mother on them. (they didn't know he spoke Spanish). The two men got the tongue lashing of their lives and he stayed with them (voluntarily) for a while. He says that now 15 years later, he still goes back to visit them once or twice a year.
