If you have to manually spin your inducer motor, you have bigger issues. Your furnace was likely tripping out the limit switch because the filter was so plugged, it wasn't allowing enough airflow across the heat exchanger, therefore causing the limit switch to open, which then shuts the furnace down as a safety precaution.

HVAC pro here. You should never have to spin your inducer motor. There should always be enough torque for the system to do that itself. If you are having to do that, your problem is likely your motor or your capacitor or both. Don't stick your hands in there. Your problem is airflow and maybe also the inducer motor/capacitor or both.

What you don't understand is that's your draft motor if that's not spinning you can be building up carbon monoxide in your house and what you just told them to do can actually cost somebody their life because you might get it going one time but it when that motor stops again that stops the gas valve from opening so you don't get poisoned you need to be sure of what you're saying before you post it because what you just told people is very dangerous for them to do it could cost somebody their life

hmmm...they can get hurt? then why in the heck the furnace repair guy show me, to spin the rotor thing! now im confused because the landlord is paying that furnace guy to fix it. and now your telling me that, what the guy showed me to do, is dangerous, and matter of fact a couple people in the comment section is saying it. can't even trust a furnace repair man, with your life apparently.

@@anjuanyourhero694 when you spin that motor you're spinning the internal windings the internal windings can run for a week or two weeks or even a month but you have to ask yourself why it stopped to begin with the purpose of that motor is to vent unburnt gases that's called a draft motor or a power venter if it seizes up again and you don't notice it because you're asleep and your gas burner didn't go off you would have unburnt gases which is carbon monoxide in your house if by spinning it you get it to work again it just means that something bound your motor and unless you know what bound the motor it can happen again the best thing you can do is look where the hoses are and you'll see a small hole in there a tiny hole on the side take a small paper clip and stick it in that hole to make sure you don't have any obstruction in it check the hoses and make sure that they are tight and you can't pull them off if they're not tight cut a small section off and put it back on if you notice there are connected to a vacuum switch otherwise known as a pressure switch that controls that motor going on and off it can be the hoses we're not creating enough vacuum for that to go on that's why I said if you pull them off easy cut a piece back take teaching you how to do this safely will help you in the future I am HVAC certified and I'm also a facility engineer of multiple hotel properties

There's an arrow on the filter showing which way the airflow should be going through it. The cold air return flows toward the furnace or, more simply, the arrow should point to the furnace.

Replacement of that inducer motor. Make sure that the inducer sensor is good.

I enjoyed your video. You would enjoy taking the HVAC classes or learning about the subject in your own time. Your unit was off on a high limit because the filter was filthy. Changing the filters let it breathe again. The inducer motor, high limit, surface igniter, gas valve, and control board did their job after. Don't go spinning that motor, it doesn't help.

You might want to get a new draft induce motor if yo have to start it by manually turning it .That is if you can find a part for the old relic And while your at it , have the whole furnace cleaned !!!
@americo197 Жыл бұрын
Don't do what that guy is saying, that part is the inducer motor it can hurt you if you touch it running, it should star automatically.

Be careful that’s old system can be very dangerous use caution ur dealing with gas, fire and high voltage atleast 120v.

I learned this from the maintenance guy my landlord called over to take a look at the furnace. I seen what he did and shared the info. And hell yeah it looks hella dangerous the way those flames come out. But f"ck being cold ya know.

Your gas valve needs adjust on the gas pressure or you have a crack heat exchangers cause it supposed to shoot straight
@LH816333 жыл бұрын
No! Dirty filter caused furnace to overheat!! Because not enough airflow ! Blower will blow air thru heat exchange blowing heat off it out of vents!!
@mikelewis42603 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately you are wrong about the gas pressure and a cracked heat exchanger.yes the dirty filter can cause the unit to overheat and shut down but if you change the filter and the dame problem keeps happening then that inducer motor or high limit switch is having an issue.
@mikelewis42603 жыл бұрын
I agree with Delbert you have bigger issues than a clogged filter.

You have the wrong kind of filter in your furnace and it's overheating and that's why it's short cycling

Damn... didnt know that i just used the extras that wad already available in the house when i moved in. Actually the one in it i never changed for a year. Then finally changed the filter and it helped. So i think your right.

That is the right filter for that unit. The first filter was dirty but that cheap type of filter is correct. You can get those in a 3 pack at home depot for like $4.

You are completely lost. First of all that “spinner thing” is called your inducer. And you’re not supposed to spin it to get it going. Thats because your inducer motor is going bad. That “thing that gets bright” is called your hot surface igniter. Before it ignites your pressure switch has to close which you didnt mention. And from what I see with those erratic flames, it looks like you might have a crack in your heat exchanger. Instead of trying to give people advice, those people just need to call a professional.
