Definitely the best version with the choir and orchestra. Has the pleasure of playing for him in The Park Club Maesteg early eighties. Great singer.

A brilliant singer and a true gentleman. I had the pleasure of seeing him singing live and meeting him personally. Such a loss that he left us so early.

I was sitting in the garden thinking about my Welsh ancestors (they are from the Rhonda valley)and suddenly had to search for this song that my mum used to play. I could only remember the opening line. This is an amazing song and still stirs memories and brings tears to my eyes.

This is the version I remember and was lucky enough to meet him promoting a record in the old Newport in shops.

I was just comparing my 45 to the KZbin music version. Was half tempted to upload it myself but then saw your video following the same thought!

You're right..this is exactly how I remember my father's cassette version sounding, back when I was a little kid. (Probably recorded from the record.) He played it every Sunday morning, amongst other favourites of his, but I hadn't heard it for probably 30 years, until the other day. I remembered every word and even hummed the little violin notes between lines. Thanks for uploading. 😊

Dave, I totally agree. I will never forget seeing him sing in Alexandras Palace nightclub in Newport.

I prefer David’s voice to Tom Jones it’s not so forced
