The true genius of Palpatine was rather that he set things up such that whatever way things turn out he still wins. If the clones win, he is the leader of the Republic. If the droids win, he is the secret leader of the Separatist.
@laytonjr66019 ай бұрын
Palpatine always has contingency plans after contingency plans. Let's take the Naboo crisis for exemple: his original plan likely didn't take into account Valorum being friend with Qui-Gon and sending him on a secret mission, so his plans probably were to gather sympathy for his home planet while it's under attack. Then when the Jedi freed Padmé and crashed on Tatooine, he sent Maul to stop them. Then he used Valorum asking Qui-Gon as a personal favour (and not in a Senate sanctioned mission) to prove to Padmé that he had lost all his political power and needed a vote of No Confidence. Padmé wasn't even supposed to arrive on Coruscant in his original plan. Then when he met Anakin, he made sure that Maul would kill Qui-Gon instead of going after the Queen, securing his own apprentice because he knew the Jedi Council would never accept him and Obi-Wan was too grieving to care for Anakin the way he needed (obviously that was another contingency, Maul was supposed to kill Obi-Wan too to make sure no one in the Jedi Temple would want to train Anakin) Palpatine is a straight up genius, and the Sith Order had been slowly corrupting the Republic for 1000 years. The Jedi had no chance

But a single Jedi couldn't have ordered the creation of such a massive army, where would the funding have come from? Surely, the Jedi Council would have noticed such a massive transfer of credits. The only way this could have been hidden is if the funds had been siphoned away over a long period of time, decades at least, and it must have been done by the highest ranking member of the Jedi Council. But who on the Council has served for so long, had the authority to hide such large illicit transfers, make political connections across the galaxy, and is powerful enough in the Force to cloud the judgments of those who might notice? ... Master Yoda! He has been a Jedi for centuries, he had the time to build up the funds, manipulate galactic events over generations, corrupt the Republic from within and making it weak and ineffective, changing the policies of the Jedi Order so that it no longer helped those in need, paving the way for an unstable galaxy beset by conflict and ripe for the taking by a new rising power.

Count Dooku then fed him the idea of using clones and to approach the Kaminoans about it and provided the funds for it. After going behind the Council’s backs and ordering the clones, Sifo-Dyas was killed by the Pyke Syndicate on his way to Felucia under Dooku’s orders who then erased Kamino’s coordinates from the archives thus burying the secret entirely.

To be fair, how would Obi Wan have known there would be an entire whole army of droids besides the ones they were currently fighting? Also, they could still use the rest of the clones to fight the droids, so they could survive Geonosis and then be able to catch Palps off guard.
@kylepessell13509 ай бұрын
What is overlooked in this scenario is that Palpatine had already practically won even before the Clone Wars started. Realistically there would be little they could do to stop him lawfully as he controlled the courts and the allegation that he was a Sith was both difficult to prove and not actually illegal anymore. They would have to do what Windu ultimately decided had to be done and just try to kill him. However, he was still a popular elected head official and even if they succeeded this would have destabilized the Republic on the eve of a major crisis. Palpatine would pull the trigger on order 66 early, the Jedi would lose their grand army, the Republic would fall to the Separatists, and Dooku would have taken over. This might be slightly better than what actually happened but the Jedi Order as they had existed for thousands of years was already doomed at this point.

The Jedi Order was in a lose-lose situation from the get-go and they likely still would have lost even if they had figured out the plot beforehand. The creation of the Clone Army was authorized by a Jedi who was killed around the same time the order was places. The template for the clones was a Mandalorian Bounty Hunter Jedi Killer. The Bounty Hunter works for Count Dooku, who was a Jedi turned Sith Lord and claims the Senate is directly controlled by a Sith Lord. The highest ranking politician in the Galactic Senate is Chancellor Palpatine, who rose to power around the same time the order for the Clone Army was placed. I don’t expect the Jedi Council to instantly realize that Palpatine’s behind it all, but they’d at least look into a few of these mysteries more than not at all.

Sifo-Dyas was kicked off the Council for saying that he had a vision in the Force that the Jedi would need an army. They found his body on Felucia after he'd been sent on a diplomatic mission by Chancellor Valorum. This all happened pre-Palpatine's rise, so there's no real reason for them to connect any of it to him. The most obvious thing to conclude is that Sifo-Dyas' vision was correct, and that he acted on it. As for Jango working for Dooku ten years after he'd been used as the clone template, there were very, very few bounty hunters around that had the skills of Jango at that time. Dooku really wanted this job done, and so he paid for the best.

@@patbracken all Palps had to do was give Order 66 to wipe out the Jedi and follow it up with either senate arrests or order 37 to force them to cede emergency powers to him. He had a lot of contingencies should a particular scheme fail.

Next episode: "If Obi-Wan used his brain for once but then realized, he was wrong" With classics like: "Obviously we deleted the planet from the archives! Imagine the enemy found out about it!" and "Wait! Didnt we just talk about how an fake assassination could increase common sympathy...? And that Master Windu just killed an... assassin?" or "Well, now that we slaughter that clone army, that thought us allies, I almost feel like someone could have set us up to dispose of any opposition to his rise to power. Huh."

Check my description! I linked to Joel Haver's video which is where I learned. (Though I've added a few steps for my own work flow since then) The short of it is you take footage and draw over a few frames. A program called EbSynth interpolates those drawn frames to match the movement of the footage!

Apparently Qui-Gon Jin would have figured this out as his judgement wouldn't have been so easily 'clouded by the darkside' as he wasn't attuned to the Force in quite such a rigid way.

I mean as far as I understand part of what made Palpatine so good at what he did is because he was using the longest mind trick ever and the Jedi Temple was built on a pretty big dark-side force nexus. Hard to see the dark while in the dark.

Obi - Wan: Anakin? Anakin: Yes, Master? Obi - Wan: I've been thinking... Anakin: That's great, Master, but I don't think this is the best moment for a conversation. Obi - Wan: Of course you don't think. You never think. You just act on instinct. Anakin: Command & Conquer reference, Master? Obi - Wan [confused]: Command and what? Anakin [deflects a blaster bolt]: Never mind. What do mean by I never think? If I didn't think, I wouldn't exist. Obi -Wan [deflects two blaster bolts]: Descartes? I didn't know you have an interest in philosophy. Anakin: Of course you didn't, Master. You still have much to learn about me. Obi - Wan: Hmmm... I guess I do. Anyway, as I was saying... Anakin [dodges a blaster bolt]: Wow! Did you see that, Master? That was a close one! Obi - Wan: No, I didn't, you silly boy. I'm facing the opposite direction. Now, as I was saying... Anakin: Master, I really don't think... [disappears from existence] Obi - Wan: Anakin? [looks around] Anakin? Huh. Live by Descartes, die by Descartes, I guess. 😁

I feel like after discovering Jango was working for Dooku, Obi wan would've been able to connect a few dots. Like why was there an army of clones modeled after the mandalorian working for a former jedi master, now turned sith, that was ordered by a jedi master that had been missing for while. If anything they should have quickly put together that Dooku was at least connected to the creation of the clone army. But that wouldn've made the story a whole lot shorter and that no fun.
