According to canon, they're just some bacteria that react to the presence of the force, and can be used to measure someones potential. So not as dumb as people think. Just to clarify how they actually function: the force is and always was a spiritual thing. Midichlorians have been a thing since the first star wars movie as there are notes from George talking about the specifics of the force and he brings up midichlorians. The force is a spiritual thing that exists in and around everything. Midichlorians are microscopic organisms that allow beings to be able to use the force. Everyone has midichlorians but only beings with a high enough count are able to fully use the force. With some beings with lesser count either not be able to harness it or only use it for small things such as Chirrut Îmwe in Rogue one who can’t manipulate it to pull or push things but uses it to help him be able to see or feel things around him like a spidey sense. And even if you do have a high count of midichlorians that doesnt mean you instantly are stronger. Just like everything else you have to train to master your abilities. And simply having the force isnt the end all be all. As shown in the prequel films and clone wars, Anakin has the highest midichlorian count but still has been beaten in duels against other skilled and trained force user or duelist. Dooku being one of them as he was one of the best saber duelists ever and he beat Anakin a good amount of times before Anakin trained hard enough to surpass Dooku in both skill and strength. Another one for Anakin. Obiwan. Obiwan as even said here has a much lower count than Anakin but when they fought each other Obiwan was the victor since Anakin let his emotions cloud him and Obiwan, even though it broke his heart to fight his brother, was better trained in controlling himself that he was able to win

I've never minded Midichlorians. People say it destroys the mysticism of the force, and I agree, but honestly I like that. The one complaint I don't agree with is that they're a DBZ-style Power Level, where having the highest number automatically makes you the strongest; the "midichlorian count" thing isn't an active power level, it's a measure of natural potential. I've been doing martial arts for a few decades now, and taught my own classes for about 6 years in there. I think any martial artist would tell you that some people just "have it". They take to things immediately, like they were born for it. And any martial artist would tell you that if you don't have the drive to make good on that potential, it means nothing. I've seen the most gifted students just stay "good", while other students who train through a struggle---even if it takes them longer to master something---pass them by and become amazing. When I hear the midichlorian thing, I just go back to that. Potential doesn't make you great. Wanting to be great, and being truly willing to make that happen, makes you great.

It was. The first film has tons of concepts he never fleshed out because he wasn't planning to. He didn't think it would be a huge hit and he had a ton of people on set that would tell him if his ideas were getting too crazy or if something wouldn't work. Those people didn't exist for the prequels. By that point, everyone just considered him "untouchable" when it came to matters of Star Wars. And, well, you know the rest.
@namecomingsoon95177 ай бұрын
I thought i saw somewhere that there were some notes he wrote down when he first made star wars where he talked about mediclorians meaning he always thought of them. And i dont know why people cant wrap there head (edit: someone pointed out i said that wrong. I meant “Their Heads”. Thanks) around it. To me the way it always worked was that the force is a spiritual force that resides within every single thing but only beings with a high enough m count are able to tap into it as the mediclorians are microorganisms able to tap into the spiritual force. I like the idea as it makes it that not everyone can simply use the force. While the force is in everyone, it isnt something just anyone can manipulate. I guess disney forgot about that cause now just about anyone can use the force. I am not a fan of them giving Sabine force abilities when we spent a whole ark in Rebels where she learns how to use her mandalorian gear to help combat against force wielders cause she can’t use the force

@edwxx200017 ай бұрын
the force has a grand plan, the jedi who listen to the force act as nodes to do the force's will. sometimes that will is to get blown up because the force doesn't need you anymore. the Sith reject the will of the force and use their own willpower to exert their own influence on it. This leads to the 2 different "religious" philosophies of the force. the jedi strive to become one with the force, and bring balance and calm to its will. the Sith seek to become the singular point of focus of the force and do so by force of will. Using the "dark side" of the force causes the force's will to become distorted and harder for the jedi to commune with, generations of Sith focused the dark side on to cloud the jedi's judgement and abilities. by the time of the phantom menace, the galactic center was so distorted that the jedi could only barely make out the will of the force, and were forced to make judgements based on their own morals and teachings. during this period the jedi became more dogmatic, relying on the code more for guidance and become more political as to deal with issues they would normally have help from the force to solve.

The force is still magic. Midichlorians are tiny things that help help force sensitive people access the magic. The Force is still very much mystical. I don't know why people misunderstand this so often. Qui Gon literally says it "without midichlorians, we would have no knowledge of the force", instead of "without midichlorians, we would have no force", which clearly shows that midichlorians and the force are two related but separate things.

To all 3 of you. You all always seem to forget that Lucas was also a main editor for A New Hope. Star Wars was not saved in the edit, and the lies about the yes men, and OT being able to tell him no, is still being perpetuated. Stop believing everything you see on the internet. If any of you bothered watching behind the scenes you'd know for the Prequels, George was challenged a lot, the actors, art directors, and producers would all suggest changes, challenge Georges decisions, get to make character choices, etc. As for the OT, George would get what he wanted at the end of the day. If GEORGE didn't tell his peers NO, then the crap Luke scenes with his friends in Toshi Station would have been kept in, courtesy of Marcia Lucas, and Luke would have been turned to the Dark Side, ending with Luke taking and wearing Vader's helmet, declaring himself Darth Vader, courtesy of the Ep6 director. Y'all didn't like the PT, fine, but some making sh!t up. Take off the nostalgia glasses for the OT. They have the exact same issues the Prequels do. They've literally been criticized for poor acting, dialogue, and special effects. Nothing has changed.

Imagine Jedi masters trading padawans like sports teams or pokemon cards. "Bariss Offee has a 12k M count, very high, but she's got those dark side urges. Cal Kestis has a 9k M count but he's younger and more open to training. I'll throw in a couple of astromech droids to sweeten the deal. What do you say?"

My main issue with them is it brings a bit of eugenics to Star Wars. I think it should just be “the force wanted this guy to be able to use it” instead of having better blood
