For fans of the prolific Japanese animation studio Studio Ghibli, the name Porco Rosso will be one you know intimately. He's the ace biplane pilot who learned the art of flying in World War I, before being turned into a pig and turning his skills to fighting pirate crime. He has legions of fans around the world. What does this have to do with Seiko, you might reasonably ask? Well, the Japanese watchmaker has teamed up with the Japanese animation studio to produce two limited edition watches, one of which is the Seiko Presage SRQ033J1 Porco Rosso Limited Edition.
The stylish pilot’s chronograph features a number of subtle nods to the Italian flying pig, including the stripes of the Italian flag in the 3 o'clock sub-dial, which matches the red, white and green stitches in the crocodile leather strap. If you flip the watch over, you'll be greeted by Porco Rosso's face on the sapphire crystal caseback, as well as the engraving, “Un maiale che non vola è solo un maiale”, which translates as, “A pig that does not fly is just a pig". If that wasn't enough, the 42mm steel watch also features a stunning enamel dial created by the Seiko craftsman Mitsuru Yokosawa.

@@Julian-rt9qs I was looking at watches for quite some time from multiple brands and I stumbled across this watch because I liked the look of it and also I liked the Spring Drive. I found the watch online from a watch shop in the UK. They already had the watch discounted and I found a 15% discount code and used it and that worked. The watch shop contacted me via email saying that the discount code shouldn’t have worked on a sale item however they would stand by the total discount of 36.25%. After I bought the watch I noticed they had a press release on July 2020 therefore I’m guessing the watch sat in their store for a year and no one bought the watch. Most people probably thought they wouldn’t spend full price on a Seiko with Spring Drive when for the same money they could have a Grand Seiko with Spring Drive. Although the 5R65 Seiko Spring Drive and 9R65 Grand Seiko Spring Drive are mechanically the same, made in the same place, by the same Masters and are performance rated the same. I love my new watch with the red leather strap including the nice wooden presentation box it came in. I realise that some people are watch badge snobs but that was better for me to get this watch at such a reduced price however each to their own.

@@Julian-rt9qs Happy hunting for these watches. You can still find these watches online such as Chrono24 for example. I'm enjoying the watch but maybe not the seiko three fold clasp at the minute. I enjoy the leather straps but the adjustments to the clasp is annoying. Either it's too tight or too loose for my wrist. I'm currently looking for a new strap which fits my wrist properly at the moment. I still would like to find a red leather strap to go with the watch.

No watch should be larger than 40mm case size, no larger than 20mm lug size and thickness no more than 12.5mm. This should be the golden rule, just personal opinion...I am not a watch enthusiast or collector but passionate about esthetics.

I'm a fan of both Seiko and Studio Ghibli but I'm not sure about getting this watch. Porco Rosso was a weird anime that I watched fansubbed back in 1995 as a teenager. It was ok but not one of my favorites. And for the price Seiko is asking for, I'd rather get another Grand Seiko.

It's bad enough Seiko wants to charge 5500 for any of their Grand Seikos I Wii say I'm very impressed and always gave been with the Actual LEGEND DIve watches such as the Seiko 6105 and the incredibly durable and very collectable Seiko 6309 7049

I say the same to those who pay over retail for a stainless steel sports watch from a certain pointed crown. Seems people are still under the misconception that just because its a Seiko it must be cheap or else... times are changing even midrange Seikos are getting certain treatments once exclusive to Grand Seiko. It's a cool collaboration, for the diehard fan out there it will sell.
