To be fair, I think in Pokemon lore, you are Blue are just kids playing at Oak's house... which is why all of those "different" trainers all look the same.... Giovanii is just a neighbor playing along with the kids and the kids just know that bikes are too expensive so they make up a huge number until Oak gets them a bike.... It's also why Oak can always tell you when you shouldn't ride a bike... he's baby sitting you... the game is mostly just your imagination while your mom takes a small break and your dad is at work....

I've always thought that Missingno should be a legitimate pokemon, especially with how popular it still is even after so many years. Like Unown, in a way. A mythical pokemon, so it can't breed, and one that's not really viable for battleing, just more of a bonus accomplishment for the postgame sort of thing. A pokemon you have to go out of your way to try to locate and get to, like the Regis, or that might involve intentional 'glitches' or doing things no one would ever even think to do normally, as a sort of homage to the 'glitch' aspect. And it could even be explained in-game as the residual effects of this pokemon having been in that area and somehow damaged the 'reality.' It pretty much already IS a pokemon to the community, so making it official would just be a really neat way for them to honor this old pokemon legend, to let us have the ability to keep a little piece of nostalgia for ourselves in a pokeball. Unfortunately, I do think if they had any desire to do it, it probably would've been done in the Let's Go games. Which is a big shame, that really was such a perfect opportunity. They wouldn't have even needed to say anything about it, someone would've tried to do the original method for kicks and giggles, and discovered it actually works, and you could legitimately catch it without it glitching the game to hell and back (pretty sure they would've removed the duplication sideeffect tho, the buzzkills.) That sort of a thing would've blown the hell up, instantly viral. It would've been so amazing. But no, poor Missingno still isn't official. [As a side, it should totally be number 000. There is literally no other number that would fit but that one. And it would sorta add to the 'this thing wasn't supposed to exist but for some reason it does and it doesn't fit anywhere' motif.]

255/10 I love this XD Also, making a reference to the episdoe where Acreus dropped his Chesto Berry was a nice callback. A lot of people don't seem to realize this, but Missingno actually occupies 39 different ID slots. There were originally going to be 190 Pokemon, but 39 were cut and erased, with Missingno replacing each one, since most of their data was blanked out. 9 of them still retain their cries. For most of them, their front sprites are lost forever, though most of their back sprites are in the leaks. the ones which DO have known front sprites, their sprites were found in the manga about Satoshi Tajiri, and fans recreated them based on how they looked in the comic. The Old Man glitch works how it does because Game Freak forgot to remove the wild encounter data from the left facing shore tiles. Talking to the Old Man will move your name data to the wild encounter table, since the Old Man's name needs to be in the name's spot, so it moves it there s it can put it back later, and that's not a problem in Viridian City since there are no wild Pokemon, but it doesn't clear out the encounter table data when you fly to Cinnabar Island because there are no wild Pokemon there either. The shore tiles, for some reason, don't clear it either. And the glitch bases the encounters on what your name is because your name was written into the encounter table after you talked with the Old Man. So, Missingno gives you 128 of your 6th item because when a Pokemon is seen, the flag for it being seen in the Pokedex is set to 128, meaning you saw it, but since Missingno is outside the valid ID range, it sets it at the spot where Missingno would put its Pokedex flag WOULD be (IF IT HAD ONE!), which JUST so happens to be where your 6th item slot is. It corrupts your Hall of Fame because it freaks out when it sees the invalid front sprite. I dunno how exactly THAT works. And about the battle spprites being flipped and looking like they're melting, Nintendo was wrong about releasing your Pokemon or deleting your data to fix that. How you ACTUALLY fix it is by viewing the stats of a non-glitch Pokemon in the Pokedex (Possibly in the Stats menu from the party screen too, not sure if that works)

Though, 255 is the highest number an unsigned 8 bit variable (i.e, one that does NOT support negative numbers) can represent, since it can represent 256 values and it starts with 0 (and 0 IS actually one of the slots this time). there is room for 256 Pokemon slots technically, though the programming of the actual game makes that not really true in practice. And the level of Pokemon can go up to 255, as seen when you get a pokemon above level 100 from the Old Man Glitch when you're trying to FIND missingno. If you level it past 255, it levels "up" to 0 because it overflowed. (metaphorically spilling over and emptying itself) PP values for moves can also go up to 255.

Hall of Fame gets corrupted because of the sprite true. Heres how and why. To conserve on the limited data storage capabilities on ROM Chips Back then, Sprites were compressed to take up less space. When decompressing it decompresses into 3 bitplane buffers. The sprite is determined by a bounding box which determines the sprites size On missingno, the values and the location the game points the sprite to, is invalid. Thats why the sprite is stair shaped and why the screen stays black longer when you encounter one. While its decompressing the sprite it decompresses outside of the allowed buffers, due to those invalid values. The data stored next to those buffers happens to be your hall of fame data, which gets corrupted by the decompression algorythm attempting to decrypt a massive amount of game data as a sprite.

Not so fun fact: missingno is technically a marowak. Back then the line was gonna be cubone-marowak-kangaskhan. But gamefreak decided that the entires didn't make sense. That's why missingno. Can evolve into kangaskhan on level 284.

@@Morboeatspeople I fairly certian you can either evolve it into kangaskhan, and then trade it, or it turns into kangaskhan when it gets traded over. Kangaskan having watergun twice isn't his best move set though.
