@brunkopops93218 жыл бұрын
That's correct. The SEGA dreamcast really was awesome, a lot of promises that SEGA made with it, they delivered on and it was ahead of its time. But because of their bad business skills and the failure of the 32X and the Saturn, people lost faith in SEGA which resulted in the dreamcast's death. The dreamcast Could've saved SEGA, but SEGA failed
@shoopoop218 жыл бұрын
The dreamcast was great, the games for it were not. The dreamcast had a horrible lineup.
@Iusti857 жыл бұрын
The only thing that kills the Dreamcast it was the "DVD fever" everybody bought the PS2 becouse "you can play DVDs on it". Back in those days no body cares about the 32x and the Saturn. The only thing everybody really cares is that the PS2 can play DVDs. And no the lineup wasnt horrible it was great from sonic to shenmue, you have power stones, jet set radio, marvel vs capcom3, virtual on, quake arena 3, house of the dead 2, crazy taxy, grandia, skys of arcadia. Etc etc etc.
@SIPEROTH7 жыл бұрын
+Helmuth Martinez It wasn't just the DVD, Sega was coming from failed consoles, Sony was coming from a big success with Playstation 1. The Playstation already was a big name and it was the number one in the previous generation. The biggest competitor was Nintendo 64 and it was miles away in sales and success. So the ground was already ready for a huge hype over a Playstation 2. And if on top that we take the DVD the more power etc and all the amazing third party titles coming for it then it was obvious The Playstation brand had the market by the balls for another generation. Also Sony had money to promote the console before release, money Sega didn't have after failures and selling the Dreamcast with not much profit.

*sigh* The sad truth is that this IS the truth. The Dreamcast delivered on a LOT of the promises given... bu~ut without any early games and little 3rd party support early on, and the PS2's massive success (with a TON of 3rd party support) just around the corner, followed by the fourth console in the market (x-box) it was just... not enough. Poor SEGA. You used to be able to make games, too. SEGA is kind of like that jock from high school and college. They were really popular, but then the world moved on without them, and they're stuck trying to relive those days as the sit in debt, balding, and overweight with their life falling apart around them. And if someone like me, who was SOLIDLY on the Genesis side of that console war, can admit this... why can't others?

MrStrikecentral www.vgchartz.com/analysis/platform_totals/ Those numbers tell me it DID fail. 8.20 million globally. PS1: 105 mil. PS2: 152 mil. N64: 32 Mil. Gamecube 12 mil. Even the Wii U, Nintendo's worst selling system to date, which is still in production and selling, beat the Dreamcasts's entire possible lifetime in sales globally. EVEN THE SEGA SATURN MANAGED TO SELLING MORE! (even if just barely) Yes. The Dreamcast failed. Was it a bad system? No. I never said it was. Just that it failed.

+adultmoshifan87: You are not alone. I hate the fact that the bean counters have taken over the video game industry from the developers and, by proxy, the consumers. I get that it's a business, and I'm far from a business strategist, but the industry has been be doing asinine shit for years now. Remember with the advent of DLC, we were supposed to get new life injected into slightly older games? Not anymore! All DLC is now is payment to play a video game the way its supposed to be played, unless you want to wait a few months later and then buy a "Game of the Year" edition of said game. I have an X-Box 360, and I do play it frequently, but my Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 get more play from me than my 360 does. And honestly, this might sound weird, crazy, and/or stupid to you, but I miss the days of pre-DLC gaming, when the companies HAD to get everything right on the first try. And yes, I would kill for Sega to jump back into the video game industry as a first-party competitor. We'd probably be on the "Dreamcast 3" if Tom Kalinske was running Sega of America today.

The Dreamcast really was a revolutionary console. The VMUs in the controller was brilliant, the games were amazing, it was simply beautiful. Unfortunately, all their competitors just looked at what Sega did and copied what worked for their new systems. Sega had the unfortunate habit of tying radical new ideas and technologies while everyone else just sat back, copied and profited on what worked and let Sega eat the loss for what didn't. Companies can't afford to be revolutionary anymore. At least Sega tried.

to be fair, the dreamcast was a great console with great games, and i absolutely loved mine. sooo many hours spent playing Phantasy Star Online, Skies of Arcadia, Grandia 2, Taxi Driver, Soul Edge/Soul Caliber, Shenmue, the list goes on. yea, it's library was smaller than it's competitors, but it had a higher % of quality games, so it evened out as far as i was concerned. plus, i had an N64 and PS1 too anyways, so i didn't have to miss out on the best games for those consoles either. the Dreamcast failed because of the combination of Shenmue eating up a shit ton of money that never got earned back, and when the PS2 came out, it literally blew everything else out of the water, thus securing the Dreamcasts downfall. plus, it was slowly falling behind the PS1 and N64 due to not having well known titles to compete with the likes of RE 1-3, mario party, super smash bros, final fantasy 7, crash, sports games, mario kart, ect. Sega essentially made the same mistake Sony did when they released the original PS3. it was more expensive than the other consoles, and parents generally will choose the cheaper option when buying for their kids, especially back then. and it was all a trickle down effect from there. the ability to play DvDs would have been nice too.

Microsoft worked on the Dreamcast. That's how they learned what they needed to know to make the Xbox.

+thecianinator: A part of me thinks of the Dreamcast as living on through the X-Box family of consoles, especially the 360.

The dreamcast was actually one of the best consoles ever made. Way ahead of its time.

I actually had a Sega Dreamcast and that was one hell of a console.

The Dreamcast was truly ahead of its time and its sad it never caught on way back when. I honestly think it would have completely changed how we view videogames today if it did.

Jeez, this actually hurt to watch. I bought a Dreamcast back then and I had a blast with all the great games Capcom put on it. I just wish things worked out for Sega. Maybe if they had dwelt with Microsoft we got have gotten a Dreamcast 360. We'll never know.

The Memphis Milano style patterns you used at the beginning of the video are associated with the 80s & early 90s. They fell out of vogue in 1995.

To be fair, SoulCalibur is one of the best fighting games out there, and Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 where great when they first came out (though haven't aged well) along with Super Mario 64 and Final Fantasy 7.

No one was saying radical in 1999. And the PCs in the background were out of date for 1999. No one had desktop computers, mostly everyone had towers. It would have been cool if they had the old iMacs in the background and a few AOL disk.

The Sega Dreamcast was a fine Damn console. I originally picked it up for Resident Evil: Code Veronica but the demo for Sonic Adventure told me I made a good choice despite it's downfall. The good thing is I don't need to buy the games as I can just burn them onto a CD. Ashamed I'm resorted to do that but hey that's what happens when the games you want are hard to find and expensive.

I played phantasy star online on 56k dial up Internet and it was amazing experience. There was no lag at all, unlike online games nowadays.

the sad thing is.. the dream cast was actually a system that had really kickass games... it was just a half step in generation as opposed to a full step like Xbox and PS2.. it released too early and just didn't make the final push it needed too.
