So, I shared this video a few days ago and it went viral... and though there were a slew of troll comments (which I deleted), there were also some honest comments like this one that I'd like to address.
Life is definitely painful and awkward for a lot of people... but disorders like autism, generalized anxiety disorder, and other neurodevelopmental disorders exist to describe experiences that are outside of the norm. What I shared in my video are examples of that. There's a reason the DSM, a manual used in the US as a tool for diagnosing autism, mentions eye contact more than once in reference to autism. It also talks about communication differences related to special interests that directly relate to the experiences I was talking about in my video. If these were typical or "normal" experiences, they would not... by definition of what the manual was created for... be mentioned in the DSM.
Also, I am not suggesting that these experiences are exclusive to autism. They absolutely are not. In fact, that's why I mentioned anxiety. Because these are also common experiences related to anxiety.... and a variety of other things.
The point of my video was that IF a person experiences all three of these things... they MAY... and gosh, the number of people pretending like I didn't say may... be autistic. And therefore may, and again MAY, want to look into it.
And to all the people who found my original video helpful, and hopefully this one too... follow for more content about autism and brain wiring differences 😘
