back in the day when i still didnt use contracts on my gigs, there was this one event that hired me and another 1 dj for a party, i was opening set. 2hours in to my 4hour set an event organizer suddenly came up to me and handed me my talent fee and told me they can only give me half of the amount we agreed on because the other dj suddenly asked for an increase of his talent fee, i told her its okay and then i calmly yanked out the xlr from my controller and proceeded to pack up everything. everything went silent and the sound techs and crowd are confused as i was walking off the booth. the best part was that the other dj didnt have any controller and he relied on me 😂😂😂😂 next day i saw photos of the event with the dj using only a laptop.

I've played on broken decks before. One show had a 1200 that was literally cracked in half! It still worked but the speedy was off, so beat matching was slightly tricky but I looked at it as a challenge and I played my set!

What’s the difference between the decks ? Why can’t you plug in your USB and drop tunes ? I seen some djs swap to a Denon rig , but what’s the deal with Pioneer ?

All of the different players/equipment have small differences, e.g. where a specific knob is located, how some feature works, even how much delay you have when pressing a hot cue key until the player starts playing it. When you literally become one with your equipment during gig, which I believe is the case for James, you need everything to work exactly how you are used to it and how you expect it. Otherwise you will not be able to deliver such a performance. IIRC he even refuses to use CDJ 3000s because they (may) have a little delay for the hot cue function, which is not the case for the previous CDJs 2000nxs2. When you are just doing basic intro/outro mixing, you can do this with almost every player / controller after a short learning.

People are right, a DJ should be able to play on any cdjs, but James Hype is an artist, there's a significant difference and it kinda bums me out a bit that people would be here and not get that. Music is art so it's subjective. I'm indifferent to people who just don't like what James creates, that's what makes the world interesting, we should all have our own personal tastes, that makes an experience special when you are vibing with people with similar tastes. But the talent and the passion are truly undeniable and I will never understand these people who can't just acknowledge that James is a unique performer, people with earned egos and total cred are blown away from witnessing his masterpieces!
