The exercise I used most often is very complete and will definitely improve your skiing.

I have used this drill quite a bit over the last few years and especially before races as a warmup. (One note for safety, you might glance uphill before the traverse because I have had several near collisions with other skiers or boarders bombing down the hill!)

Just crossed my mind, that if you ask me, the ONLY excercise and my absolute favourite is ”Bogentreten aneinandergereicht”. Good for your balance, good for your edging, ankle, knee movement. And when you do it top-to-bottom, I mean the whole slope at the time, it’s great fun also!

Like this tip, that is combination of tips. What I really like is the lower poles with each hand on the hips and situated to reflect the pivoting of the hip. It should be mentioned with more emphasis in my opinion. I use that drill (poles w/hands on hips) when teaching a balanced wedge turning beginner. It really helps the awareness of the hip pivot vs. rotating , and role of the hips as an intermediary between the upper and lower body. The poles behind the back at the elbows is an interesting combination, which I have not seen before. I like it as it reflects the general position of the shoulders and creates additional body awareness with the hip and independence of the upper and lower body. It helps a newer skier understand that rotation/steering comes at the hip socket, knee and foot and ankle. I often use the lifting the new turning ski drill as well, but I like the combination, even though in general it is one concept at a time, non? Merci Beaucoup and good on ya. Oh and for certain, don't watch your feet (look ahead :)!

If you haven't done these exercises before then i would also recommend doing one of these exercises at a time.. Even though there are two exercises, there is only one concept.
@brianoconnor3407

@@beattheclock7509 Only one concept? Pray tell what is that? Drills build skills. You seem to miss the point of my comment. You need to work on your narrative. Do one of these exercises at a time? The strength of this demo is the combo awareness for a student with a fundamental understanding and performance of basic concepts. Only one concept? Never mind Beat It, your time is up.

Raise your head for better visual acuity and therefore balance - then you can add the javelin........

Good one, I like to do the same thing on both skis (Norwegian drill), and also moving to the new outside ski at the apex of the turn prior to make sure pressure is done at the top of the turn and to enforce a clean edge roll in transition!

@@willgoelz No one ever teaches what those words mean, they just Use them to make You think they know what they mean. Using worlds that can be misconstrued isn't going to help anyone learn. Skiing is too Simple to do and learn, it should not be made complicated with labels and meaningless words. Go to my videos and read my EZY to understand words that actually Teach people how to understand what skiing is. That is if the readers allow themselves to think. 100% of the people who watcher other videos, are just mimicking what they saw because they weren't taught anything. I don't agree at all. The most important drill by far is Garlands. If there is only one drill you should do, it is Garlands. The ski/foot/ankle/knee feel, and overall transition balance that Garlands teach are fundamental to everything else.

None of my business, but your turns are not symmetrical: it seems you have more rotation (mitrotieren) when you are turning to the right. My free piece of advice: you should work on that 😁👍

@@beattheclock7509 Actually and to be honest, I was looking only at the skitips. From the turn three onwards it seems your outside ski is leading. Which might be natural, due to the lifting of the tail of the inside ski. But just makes one wonder what would happend if you would lift the inside ski tip, instead of the tail? 👍
@beattheclock7509
@beattheclock7509 3 жыл бұрын
@@sampovaljus6230 in the beginning of the turn the outside ski is leading, but the longer the turn goes on, the more the inside ski catches up, would you agree? I prefer to lift the tail since its a lot easier to keeo the balance.. If you lift the tip, there will be more pressure on the heels.
@sampovaljus6230
@sampovaljus6230 3 жыл бұрын
@@beattheclock7509 yes. Apparently the ski tips are not that important here, lifting the ski distorts the geometry. It just looks bit weird, especially as I have been training the (outside) foot pull to start the turn lately - so may be a bit oversensitive here 👍
@JB91710
@JB91710 3 жыл бұрын
Lifting the back of your downhill ski to start a turn but at a much greater speed, is the best way to train your leg muscles to balance on one arch after the other. The pole business is one of the worst. Anything that takes your hands from in front of you and pointing down the hill, will destroy your balance and put you on your tails instead of the steering part of your skis, the tips. You have to imagine your hands are on the handlebars of a bicycle. When you want to start a new turn, point the front tire down the hill and get off the downhill pedal. That will put your upper body over the tips of your skis as they turn and will make your uphill ski roll over so it can make the turn. The Best Exercise for skiing is to practice traverses while you lift the tail of the uphill ski. When you want to make a turn, face down the hill and get off your downhill foot.
