I use Feather blades almost exclusively. I just binned a Feather after 33 shaves. I also like the BIC Chromium Platinum. The first shaves on the BIC blade can be rough, but subsequent shaves are awesome.

I tried the Wilkinson Sword blades and fixed some irritation problems I was having. I ordered some Gillette Nacet to try. I loved the sharpness of the feather but they are somewhat harsh for me. My go too blade was Astra, the Wilkinson Sword is now my favorite blade. Still like the Astras.

Agree - People equate no pull to SMOOTH and therefore embrace Feather - But the Feather is not smooth to your face for sure and can be harsh. In any case after one shave the Voskhod is sharper than the Feather AND smoother.

I love the feather blade. On the opposite scale I tried derby's and they absolutely cut up and irritated my face. I find that the shark super chromes work best on my face. Plenty sharp but very smooth.

The Shark Super Chrome is probably my favourite blade too, using it with an EJ DE89 I find it impossible to nick or irritate my skin. The only minus that I can find is that it lasts me only up to 3 shaves.

The problem I had with Feathers is, they only last 2 shaves per blade for me. I shave my face and head as "one shave", so shaving my face only I might get 3-4-5 shaves from a blade. Wilkinson Sword was very not good for me. Very irritating. I refuse to use Gillette products anymore. Currently testing out Kai blades. One shave in, and it's surprised me how sharp yet smooth it is. Glides through hair but doesn't irritate my skin. I'm curious how many shaves I'll get out of a Kai blade.

I did use a Feather blade , I did get my beard off , sadly , also a layer of skin during the process so , I don't know why somebody in his right mind would want to use them .

My rotation includes Voskhod, Astra SP, Nacet, and Feather. Feathers are too sharp for an every day blade. I like to use them on special occasions when I want a super close BBS shave. You have to be careful when using a Feather and respect it’s sharpness. Definitely different than shaving zip-zip with one of my trusty Voshkies.

I only get 2 good 3 pass shaves out of these blades. I don’t have a thick beard but the beard I have is coarse. If I squeeze out 3 shaves the blade will drag and not cut against the grain on the third pass

I haven’t tried those three yet. Still looking out for the nacets. I really like the german wilkinson sword blades, work very good for me in any razor. I used a feather three times, first shave I was very careful so in the end had a decent shave but not as efficient as I was used too. 2nd and 3rd shave we’re a lot better. I also like the bolsano’s for theyr sharpness and the Hema blades we got in the Netherlands of which I heard they are made by personna and maybe even are the red version.

I got a mix of 5 blades when I bought my Merkur razor. I found Astra blades to be excellent when starting out, you can use them like a cartridge blade and pretty hard to cut yourself with them. When I got more comfortable with the razor I went to feather blades and that's all I use now. Have to be careful with them though, respect the sharpness. Prior to going to DE razor I always used Gillette sensor razors so I tried the 7 O'clock blades and was fairly happy with them also. I find I get about 5 to 7 good shaves with the feather blades and 3 or 4 with the others before they start losing their edge. Cheers.

i ordered the edwin jagger de89 and it came already with a feather blade so i thought why dont i buy even more of those. shaved the first time full of cuts and nicks especially on the neck. After each shave my face was just burning and the worse part was i never managed to get a true close shave with the feather. I started thinking okay wet shaving with DE razor is not the thing for me because the irritation was unbearable. Until yesterday i randomly decided to buy cheap gillette rubie in the local market and i shaved again. I just have to say...WOW. Absolutely no cuts no nicks, no face burn and i managed to get the closest shave in my life. I learnt a hard lesson by injuring myself for at least a month continuously, and for all the beginners out there i can only recommended try different razor blades and starting off with a feather will most likely be a bad idea.

Vlatko.R I had the exact same experience. I’m new to wet shaving. I’m using a Merkur 23c. I bought a pack of feather blades with it because I heard they were the sharpest. The razor came with one Merkur blade in it, which worked great. I got a very close shave the first couple of times with no cuts or razor burn. But when I switched to the feather blades, it was awful! Butchered my face, and left noticeable stubble behind. I will not use feather again.

Astra SP, Derby , Whizamet, Shark SS work for my course beard. Feathers pull and tug. I tried another one..same thing. I also have no luck with any Gillette blade. It is what it is.

I've tried and tried with Feathers (in an Edwin Jagger DE89), but I'm yet to have a blood-free shave with them! Gillette Platinum seem OK, as do blue Personna Platinum...but before I tried DE shaving I always used Wilkinson cartridge razors and so - although I *know* this makes no real sense as they're completely different implements - I thought I'd give Wilkinson blades a go (especially as they're so easy to pick up in the UK). Perfect. Super smooth, super close, last for ages. I don't know what it is about my face and these blades, but I've got eight Feathers left (as well as a few Kais, Gillettes and Personnas) and I think they will probably rust away to nothing before I get round to using them now!

You have not mentioned how many times you use a blade. I have a thick growth and use a closed comb Muhle which I find to be fantastic. I only use a blade once.

The main problem of the Feather blades is the plastic box, which actually destroys one of the main advantages of using classic razors over cartridge razors. The general claim is that traditional razor blades, as opposed to multi-edged cartridges, do not pollute the environment with tons of plastic, which is, however, thwarted in the case of razor blades supplied in plastic boxes.

Feather blades are so very sharp that they quickly get micro chips on their cutting edge after just two shaves. DE blades are so inexpensive compared to cartridge blades that I simply discard and replace a Feather blade after two or perhaps three shaves. I am a Feather fan although I use other brands as well that last for up to six shaves or so for me.

Voskhod wouln't have been my top choice here simply because it's on the exact opposite side of the spectrum and can be too dull for some. They're very comfortable for me but they do tug a little and that's on hair of medium coarseness. My recommendations here would be Astra SP, Rapira Platinum Lux, Polsilver SI, Supermax Blue Diamond Titanium and Gillette Platinum. All of these strike a good balance between sharpness and smoothness.

Out of those three blades the only one I can't get away with is Voskhod. I find them rather tuggy & not very comfortable, but I do have a really coarse beard. Nacet is a top 5 blade for me, the wilkies are good too, better than the German ones IMHO.

I love those two blades because they seem to last for plenty of shaves as well. Feather for some reason... I had a good first experience with them, but afterwards when i bought a handful of them it felt like I had to replace the blade halfway through and would get plenty of weepers, while simultaneously not cut close enough. Could be the razor I put them in.

Thanks for the video. At the moment Astra Green, Pol Silver, Perma Sharp and Wilkinson Sword Black are working well. I haven’t tried the green Wilkinson or Nacet yet. The Voskhod blades are not working for me, at least the package I just finished. For the most part they were rough, tugged and pulled and left my skin feeling abused; never got more than two shaves from a blade with the exception of maybe one blade; maybe just a bad pack?

Muehle blades work better for me than feathers with an R41. They can handle the monstrously tough facial hair I sadly happen to have because of the genetics (ironically my testesterone is super low despite that), while not irritating the skin at all. It's probably because of the angle the blades are sharpened at in combination with the angle they are seated at in the razor, resulting in feathers scrubbing the hair and skin, undershaving and irritating it. Maybe they work better for smoother razors for those with more tender hairs. Muehle blades seem like the sharpest in the smooth spectrum though so far, at least for me.

They seal them with wax. It wont affect the cutting at all, but dabbing the blade after soaking in warm water after shaving quickly removes the wax residue.

I have the same love-hate relationship with Feather blades. This is the only blades that make my skin feel BBS. At the same time if i'm not paying attention and applying any pressure i'm guaranteed to get few hours of irritation. I have very low density beard and very short whiskers. Sounds good? But no. This tiny whiskers is like bunch small steel nails. I hate them so much. Very hard to cut. Even Feather barely cut them haha. I tried some other blades like KAI, personna med prep, BIC. Many call them pretty sharp. I feel they not. Yes they cut. But always leave something behind. In comparison feather is like a samurai sword and other blades to me is a cheap and dull pocket knife.

Once you learn how to get into the contours of your neck with as few strokes as possible then the Feather really shines. Takes time. As far as the rest of the face, Feather hands down. Will mow through a week of growth with an R41 with very few strokes compared to the others.

This might be considered a strange question(and it is certainly not a "troll question")but how is it determined how sharp a razor blade is? In other words; I've seen a Gillette Adjustable Online Guide that has an animated means of showing the differences in the gap of the razor(between blade and bottom plate)at each setting. Based on that it is also possible to determine similar mildness/aggressive characteristics of other razors including non adjustable. Is there a similar sharpness scale regarding blade sharpness beyond anecdotal or word of mouth?

I cant shave against the grain with anything.. electric, cartridge, DE nothing works ..i can only shave with the grain ..been trying everything for years ..my skin gets so bad if i shave against the grain ..will never be able to get smooth skin on my face for the rest of my life😅 because i will never try again because once my skin goes bad after a BBS shave it stays bad for a while and i will never risk that again ..

Good video, Rich. I've never used those Wilkinson Sword blades but I swear by the other two (definitely among my favorites). Guess I've been lucky but almost all the blades I've tried worked well for me ... except the Merkur blades packed with their razors. For a long time Sharps weren't a favorite; actually, they still aren't but i find them better at least ... practice makes perfect they say....

I don’t like feather blades. They leave my skin dry and irritated. Brought a selection pack and basically every blade has been fine but feather not so much. I have now tried them in 2 razors and same results. For me Gillette London bridge are the best. No irritation cheap and last 5-6 shaves.

you speak about blades but you didn't mention that blades are made for safety razors and not for shavette like a lot of people use! That's the big difference. I used and use with shavette but is not a good idea! Shavette has his blades! and totally different!

Feather blades are fantastic they're in a league of their own you need to be a seasoned vet not recommended for beginners. I am not a fan of Voshkod too dull and don't work for my face. Gillette nacet are awesome but even better are Astra Sp and Perma Sharp.

The reason most people use any of the top blades is because of KZbin lol… most don’t even know there is other options. One of the blades i use hardly anyone uses, then again my hair is fine and not coarse. I prefer Astra SP and Van Der Hagen platinum blades.
