Thank you, Monique! I had beautiful auburn hair all my life. Then, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. When my hair fell out, I was told if you don.t dye it when it grows back in, it will be grey and straggly. I was scared. However, my hair grew back salt and pepper grey and I love it! People kept asking when I was going to dye it. I said never! I get so many compliments. No more hair dye , I am alive and so grateful. I agree with everything you said. It is really ridiculous the stigma that society puts on women and how they look. My hair is a daily affirmation of what I have endured. You look just lovely❤️

Men get called Silver Fox's. You are right about the double standard. There are women in my workplace who are over 55 and don't color their hair and to me they stand out as some of the most attractive women in this workplace. They have inspired me to be natural with my hair color.

I love my "silver" & get stopped all the time asking me what color I use. Was so liberating to stop coloring and looking back can't imagine how many toxins I've soaked up in the last 40 years. I did have to cut my hair fairly short to get rid the darker blond. The only recommendation I have for anyone is to make sure you keep a modern or current hairstyle.

This is so bang on Monique! Everything you said explains all the things I experienced in my four year journey to hip length white hair. I've experienced the rudest people and the most complimentary people. I get positive comments on my hair almost daily from perfect strangers. Screw the mouthy, opinionated, and rude people and be confident and rock that gray hair! It's one of the best things I've ever done! 😘

Monique, you were my inspiration to embrace my gray hair. I started going gray at 30 and was totally gray by 40. I’m now 61. Two months ago I stripped my hair of color (brown): bleached it then dyed it gray. Now I’m not worried about my gray roots showing and I love my hair.

I found my first gray hair at 21. Actually, it was my college roommate who found it and plucked it out without my knowledge or permission. I was more upset by her action of assuming that I would not want it than I was by its presence. From that moment on, I could not wait to turn gray. I tried going natural, but found that the few gray strands in my 30s really aged me and looked dowdy and unkempt, so I began to color. My hair grows more quickly than most people, as I had to dye it every 10 days - 2 weeks. Around age 41, my hairdresser and I decided there was enough gray (>50%) to go for it. Growing it out was unpleasant - I am short, so my "skunkline" was visible to everyone who towers above me. I just had to suck it up for a few months. When the day finally arrived, my hairdresser cut off the colored part of my hair, leaving me with a short pixie that was silver and gray with some of my natural brown. The response was immediate and positive. 18 years later, I am rocking shoulder-length bright silver hair. I have been stopped so often by young women who ask who does my color. (My answer is always "God!") I am flattered that a business colleague told me that seeing my hair encouraged her to stop coloring. I am now 60 with great skin (no one believes my age) so the hair color is just that - a hair color. It is in great condition, thick and shiny and I love it. I have fair skin and green eyes and find my hair is so flattering to my natural coloring. I am challenged now that gray hairs are popping up in my brown eyebrows, but am finding taupe pencils are working so far. As far as dating, I seem to attract more younger men than ones my own age. Hmmm.

YASSS!!! You are so on point and on time for me. At 67 I have decided to go COMPLETELY grey on my 68th birthday in a couple months. My 1/4 inch roots are showing now. i have been doing research on "going grey" and have decided (for me) to grow out my grey hair under various styles of wigs. I have always been a changer of hairstyles and colors since I was in my early twenties. My mom had gorgeous silver grey hair but hated it so she dyed it. In transition I will also take advantage of the many highlighting and coloring options you have spoken about. It is somewhat different for me since I am also growing out a perm into a "natural" curl pattern. How much natural can ya get than white? So, that is my plan for going through and into the "grey veil". I am thinking of doing a written journal with pix. Perhaps I will post it when I'm done so that others may take courage to travel the the feminine road to the blank slate (as I like to call white/grey hair) or "old age" (as others less informed may say). YOU ARE A GREAT INSPIRATION. Rock on Lady! Smooches.

At 17 it had gotten to the point where I couldn't continue to "yank out" those white hairs, because my hairline was receding from all that pulling!! I, too, stopped dying at 50, and fully embrace my silver hair now (I'm 63). My favorite part of this video (and I LOVED all of it!!) was when you said your viewers were "grown-ass women"!! I truly don't believe it makes anyone look "older." No one is really fooling anyone when they are over 50 or 60 and you have zero gray. That would be very unusual. :) So to me, it just made me feel and look inauthentic (when I was still coloring). I A D O R E my platinum hair!!!!

I used a Color remover from Walmart to take the brown away. It worked like a charm! Some yellowing, but used purple shampoo and it knocked down the yellow. Then I had my hair cut as I usually did... After 2 hair cuts, it was all mine... I found out I was white in the front that blended to dark gray in the back. I have people asking who my hairdresser was and did I know what products she used to get my hair the way it was? I told her my hairdresser is God and mother nature!

I came across your vid with the pink wig. I watched it because I thought it was so cool! Then I discovered that your channel was dedicated to your silver journey. I fell down the rabbit hole that day. I watched most of your videos and discovered others as well. Then found support groups on Facebook. I spent the entire day feeling validated and building my resolve to stick with my journey. I even found the strength to share a “revealing” pic of my growth on Instagram and just posted my first vid about my journey, today. I have you to thank for that. Had I not come across your video last week, I would be Auburn again. (I was really having a hard time and was about to cave until I found you by “accident.”) Thank you, again. Me too , I'm about two months regrowth . I'm not liking the contrast of the white roots around the front with my brown dyed hair .It seems to be salt and pepper on the roots at the back ,which I'd be happy with .I might have to think about 'stripping' the colour so not such a contrast ,but worried about the condition of the hair afterwards . Still early days and still positive it will look great in the end :-)

@@kimmarie9919 I am at this exact point right now, with same colors and coloring history. I'm researching trying to figure out how to best navigate this journey to grey. I'm also thinking of stripping the (years & years) of brown dye using Vitamin C tablets and shampoo (found method on YT) to reveal hopefully close to whatever my natural color is now (?)... it looks to be a bit salt and pepper on the half inch of roots I have showing. But, like you, I'm apprehensive about what shape my hair will be in after stripping it. Did you end up stripping out your color or not? If so, what did you use? I'm just curious about the results of a fellow going-silver traveler who (was) in a similar situation. ☺ Thanks!

We were not created to grow old per the Bible. Some people don't believe in the Bible, others do. Most people want to look young and there's nothing wrong with that. I love silver hair especially if it looks as good as hers in this video. There is no discrimination with most people but gray hair usually comes with getting older. Just the way it is. Consider 9:11.

I have colored my hair for fun since my 20's, been every color under the sun bc I just wanted to do different stuff, not bc I was covering gray. You are absolutely stunning. I have started to go grey naturally and I've decided to let it come through. It is what it is. There is no shame in aging, it's better than the alternative. You are so lovely to speak up about this issue. Thank you sister !

Great video! Thanks for all the great suggestions! I started dying my hair at 21 and I’m now 62. I have had it. I am beyond sick of the whole process. I have a wonderful hairdresser but gone are the days when I felt excited to go. It’s such a burden. Luckily my husband and kids have always encouraged me to let it grow gray. It’s actually pretty white. I think I will get a full highlight and let it grow out. Thanks again!

The habit to Dye itches on me sometimes, so I buy wigs... My hair finally sparkles, long before I make-up. At 66, glad I listened to your channel last year. And bleaching out is the most decisive method to facilitate the change.

Beth Parker I fear bleaching being brown haired and never did dye it. People said I would probably fry my hair trying blonde so just going a bit darker instead. Makes my hair look a little thicker since fine hair soaks up dye easier.

J Moore . I know it's all scary and it can be too expensive. But I remember Monique showed her hair first cut short then lightened, maybe it was couple of years ago. And I did a copy-cat of her, to celebrate my retirement. Have a great day

J Moore - Started greying heavily at 16 (genetic, my parents, siblings as well) so I always dyed my hair. I went from dyed black to platinum in one day, no damage. I was a professional hair/mu artist at time but have seen great salon results as well! Bleach will make your hair appear thicker as well. Do it in steps if you’re scared to bleach at once. If you want it bad enough you’ll find a way! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️🦇

thank you, thank you, thank you. I have gone gray after losing it all to chemo. I am ok with gray but wanted to find out what I could do to give it some attitude. All your suggestions let me know I have options. BTW, I also rock many, many wigs and I like that option too, but when it is hot or we are camping, I go natural. I plan to watch each and every one of your videos. You made my day! Much love D

Been on this amazing journey with you for the last few years. You’ve inspired me so been doing the highlights and toner grow out. Got two blue streaks underneath either side too just to add some edge. Sure it’s maintainace, but I’ve never had so many positive comments. Strangers come up to me (seriously both men and women) and tell me they love my hair! My kids and husband tell me I look hot. At 56 at last I’m owning it! Love you bunches x

I have spent the past few days watching several of your videos. They have been a balm and an inspiration. I am 54 and have gone through what I refer to as, "Motherhood on Steriods." Long story short, one of my children has a mild heart condition and another has been through three surgeries. I was also a homeschool mom for ten years. My kiddos who are now young adults are finally at a point of good health. Taking care of me got put on the back burner for a lot of years. Watching your videos has reminded me it is okay to take care of me. As I have watched you laugh and cry, I have appreciated your authenticity, playfulness, and humanity. That too has been a reminder to embrace all of me. Thank you!

Your hair, your make-up, your skin, your eyes, your voice. It is a jealousy-inducing package. You are beautiful and thank you for going gray. And thank you for representing someone who does their own thing against other people's opinions. I grew out my dry, colored hair a couple of years ago. What sold me when it began to grow out (against all the negativity from other people) was how incredibly SOFT and healthy and natural it looked and felt. I was in love with the natural beauty factor of it all. Love your videos. Thank you for your help and your honesty.

Probably the best ever KZbin video made! You deserve an Oscar for this one. You are so wise, sensible, deep, convincing and just fantastic! I wish I had the courage and hair to go all grey, but my pepper &salt color is right out extremly horrible to my complexion/eyes) so I am back to deep brown. And my daughters begged on their knees not to go grey. But so many women rocks it!!

I’m 57 and still have a lot of dark in my hair. My hair is curly & I will probably just let it grow out. I did get it cut short with layers & I get compliments all the time. When it was longer it just was dry and nasty because of the grey hair. I wanted it to grow long for the last time, but I got it cut because of a bad hair cut. I just said cut it off. But you really help me out because looking back at pictures it was ratty. Society sucks. But you really encourage me. I love your channel! ❤️

Great conversation Monique. You are one of my role models when it came to ditching the hair dye! You look stunning, and I love your back-round in this video, peonies? Some people have told me I look younger now, so how did I look before ?! Scary 😱. My son says I look more tan, never thought it might be related to positive complexion changes sans the dye.
